  Sport and politics in Italy and in the Roman world in the contemporary era

  Cette journée d'étude réunira des chercheurs qui étudient les rapports entre sport et politique dans les pays de langues romanes et qui, dans leurs travaux, prennent en compte la notion complexe et polysémique de « latinité ». En partant de l'analyse de différents cas nationaux (avec une attention particulière portée à l'Italie) et en tenant compte des spécificités de contextes politiques hétérogènes, les intervenants s'interrogeront, à la fois, sur ce que les pays de langues romanes ont en commun concernant les relations entre le sport et la politique et sur l'existence de liens transnationaux entre acteurs politiques, institutionnels et sportifs.

  Les œuvres des deux Marguerite se caractérisent par un rapport aux villes et à l’urbanité qui n’a jamais fait l’objet de recherches spécifiques, bien que la vie de cour à la Renaissance engage, dans son itinérance même, une appréhension de la cité – et des multiples cités – tout à fait particulière. Quels furent les relais citadins des deux écrivaines ? Comment ont-elles transformé les villes où elles ont vécu et où elles ont exercé un pouvoir ? Dans quelles villes leurs œuvres ont-elles été écrites, publiées et reçues ? De quels échos urbains leurs livres bruissent-ils ? Comment les autrices de la Renaissance lurent-elles – en tant que femmes et en tant qu’écrivaines – la ville, et comment choisirent-elles de la dire ? Quelles sont les images de la Cité fournies par leurs deux œuvres, à la fois exemplaires et singulières en l’une et l’autre moitié du XVI^e siècle ?

  Organised by the ERC Advanced Grant “Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency” (MAP - 741182), the conference Naming and Mapping the gods in the Ancient Mediterranean. Spaces, Mobilities, Imaginaries hopes to bring together the competences and specialties of multiple disciplines – archaeology, history, geography, anthropology, history of religions, philology, reception, social network analysis – in order to consider new documentation corpora concerning the intersection between the divine and space. Among other things, the conference aims to propose an innovative angle of approach: the intersection between the spaces and designations of the gods.

  Social and Human Sciences in the Soviet Union: A laboratory of Modernity in the 20th Century?

  This project aims to revisit the history of the social sciences and humanities (SSH) in the Soviet Union, against the simplistic clichés that have long considered them as an exceptional case, cut-off from the history of modernity in the 20^th century. The Soviet SSH were thus thought above all as “impeded”, without real autonomy, victims of censorship and violent repression, when it was not the whole discipline (sociology, psychotechnics, paidology, or psychoanalysis, for example) that was condemned. Intellectual innovations originating among Soviet SSH scholars were very often analyzed only as the result of their strategies of evasion, resistance or smuggling in the face of the Soviet power.

  Global Congo - the aesthetics and politics of world literature

  Esthétiques et politiques d'une littérature mondiale

  In this symposium, we suggest thinking of the Congo as a literary center. First, for the writers of the diaspora: be they in Brussels, in Graz or in Louisiana, the Congo seems to function as a pole of attraction, both textually and physically. A great number of languages intertwine (Chinese is one of them), and contemporary literature attests this cultural richness. Richard Ali A Mutu, for example, writes in Lingala and is translated into English ; Jean Bofane and Fiston Mujila write in French, but their novels are translated in a dozen languages ; JJ Bola writes in English. How does this linguistic parameter influence their writings? How do the writers consider the European languages and the local languages (Lingala, Ciluba, Swahili) ? Is the choice of a language the consequence of a political commitment, or does it emerge from the observation of the plurilingual character of the Congolese society? Moreover, approaching the Congolese literary space in a World Literature perspective requires us to broaden the very notion of “literature”.

  Enhancing human in Europe: dream and nightmare of the interwar period

  Number of historians and philosophers consider in general that transhumanism and its aim at enhancing the human through applied science and technology have their roots in the inter-war period: Julian Huxley, Jean Coutrot, John B.S. Haldane or John D. Bernal are indeed massively considered as the precursors of such ideas. But are they the sole references to mention when considering the inter-war origins of transhumanism, or are they just the tip of the iceberg of a broader current of thought emerging at that time? Such question immediately raises another one, which requires clarification : can current transhumanism(s) really be linked to the ideas emerging in the inter-war period ? The aim of the workshop will be first to check whether and how the idea of an enhanced human through technology intervention may have circulated in Europe during that time. Secondly, space will be given to look for pertinent criteria for the identification of a « transhumanism » of the inter-war period, by evaluating the nature of the indices which may be studied: mobilizing ideas, currents of thoughts, schools of thoughts, sociotechnical imaginaries, etc. Within these perspectives, the workshop will make possible comparisons between the different European contexts (England, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, etc.), and the several papers will help us to better understand the circulation of ideas, networks and human exchanges which contributed to forge the cradle of transhumanist ideas. Communications will be in French or in English.
