Autour du XIVe siècle, l’optimum climatique médiéval laisse la place au petit âge glaciaire européen. Les inondations et autres phénomènes climatiques se multiplient. En parallèle, le regard porté sur ces inondations semble engendrer de nouvelles représentations mentales et figurées de l’épisode biblique du Déluge, désormais perçu comme un désastre. Dans quelle mesure l’observation répétée de phénomènes météorologiques diluviens a-t-elle pu modifier la perception par l’homme de son environnement et impacter sa lecture du récit biblique du Déluge ? Ces deux journées ambitionnent de faire dialoguer l’histoire du climat et de l’environnement avec l’histoire des images.

Nouvelles perspectives sur la représentation du monde naturel
Le colloque réunira des communications qui seront structurées tout particulièrement sur : le « sentiment » ou la « perception de la nature » de l’Antiquité à la Renaissance. Il conviendra alors de renouveler notre compréhension sur les relations entre l’homme et la nature à partir de l’examen des vestiges archéologiques, des textes, de l’iconographie. Il pourra s’agir à la fois d’examiner comment la nature était introduite, dès l’Antiquité, au sein des résidences privées (peintures, mosaïques, aménagements topographiques…) et publiques (palais, lieux de culte …) ou encore ce que peut signifier l’attrait pour le paysage, qui repose très souvent sur sa domination et son contrôle, pour la constitution de l’individu et des préoccupations écologiques.

Natural resources, their uses and perceptions (15th-18th centuries)
The workshop invites mainly, but non-exclusively, Master’s, PhD students and early career researchers of history, archival studies, archaeology, archaeobotany, archaeozoology, palynology, and palaeoclimatology. Three main themes will be examined: Primary sources, be they written documents, paleodata, or archeological material; Environmental transformations in periods of political, social and economic change; Connections between regional and local environmental transformations.

The idea of heading off to the countryside is associated nowadays with a wish to get away from a stressful, noisy, and at times oppressive and foul-smelling urban environment, to rest in peace and quiet, in healthy surroundings, in close contact with the bounties of the natural world and animals in their “natural” habitat. Far from any anachronistic intent, applying this expression to court studies is a call to scholars to adopt interdisciplinary approaches to examine the many ways in which aristocratic circles related to and interacted with their rural environment.

Écosystèmes montagnards du Moyen Âge à nos jours
Trois cas haut-savoyards : Sales, Salève, Glières
Entre 2018 et 2021, le département de la Haute-Savoie a engagé un programme collectif de recherches portant sur les écosystèmes montagnards de son territoire. Les alpages des Glières, de Sales à Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval et du Salève ont constitué trois cas étudiés par des chercheurs de plusieurs disciplines, historiques et environnementales, afin de mieux comprendre les usages et gestions de ces espaces par l’homme.

Climate and Societies in the Mediterranean during the Last Two Millennia
Current State Of Knowledge and Research Perspectives
This two-day international conference aims to highlight recent and challenging interdisciplinary studies dealing with complex historical climate/society interactions in Mediterranean during the last two millennia. The study of these existing connections can help in better understanding the role played by past climatic events in the eruption of regional conflicts, in forced migration and displacement of people, in periodically appearing infectious disease outbreaks or in subsistence crises like food shortages and famines Similarly, it seems necessary to identify and analyze socio-economic and technological responses (e.g. water supply systems) together with mitigation and general adaptation strategies, insofar as they existed, to cope with climate change.

Technical and Economic Aspects
Journée de recherche-séminaire du CERHIO (UMR 6258) à l'Université de Bretagne-Sud sur l'histoire des aménagements portuaires et littoraux (XIIe-XXe siècle). Les aspects techniques et économiques seront abordés à travers des études de cas : la baie du Mont Saint-Michel, les assèchements des marais, l'entretien des ports et la création des infrastructures pétrolières.
