Cultural Heritage and digital tools
In 2022, Jean Monnet University - Saint-Étienne, its Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Environment - City - Society Laboratory (UMR 5600 - CNRS) launched a series of annual international seminars on the use of digital tools (geomatics, 3D, sound reconstruction, etc.) for the study and management of cultural heritage. Given the success of previous editions, both among Master's students and colleagues and professionals, the seminar series will continue, with a new edition to be held on February 4, 2026

Cahiers de Sytémique, numéro thématique (2026)
Ce numéro s’intéressera plus particulièrement aux applications de la théorie des jeux à la dynamique des systèmes complexes. En retour, il devrait contribuer à un enrichissement de la théorie des jeux par des essais de modélisation fine de l’agent, approché lui-même comme un système complexe. Le simple exemple du fameux « dilemme des prisonniers » montre qu’en présence de plusieurs scénarios possibles d’évolution d’un système, la simulation des calculs que peuvent faire les agents sur les calculs que font les autres peut permettre de réduire l’éventail de ces scénarios à un seul qui est le plus probable.

Every handful of earth holds a story of "de-materiality," where the sensory philosophy of earth coexists with innovations and new technologies that push its technical limits in a desire to destigmatize it. Although durable and ecological, earth as a material faces cultural resistance tied to an image of precariousness, a perception fostered by modernity. Thus, in the context of alarming climate change, reinventing earthen construction has become urgent, if not necessary. This conference approaches research on earthen construction at the crossroads of poetics, engineering, and innovation. By highlighting earth architecture in Tunisia and around the world, it offers a transdisciplinary and resilient perspective on a universal material, putting its inextricably linked material and immaterial dimensions in tension.

Le concept émergent de « territoires intelligents et résilients » s'inscrit dans une démarche scientifique pluridisciplinaire, conjuguant les approches géographiques, anthropologiques, culturelles et technologiques. Cette manifestation scientifique vise à fédérer des chercheurs issus de multiples disciplines autour de cette thématique.

Ce numéro s’intéressera à ces situations dans lesquelles un système, évoluant à distance de son bassin d’attraction, présente un comportement non linéaire, chaotique, difficile à modéliser autant qu’à gérer. Plus précisément, il retiendra de façon privilégiée des contributions qui s’intéressent à ce moment de l’instabilité où le système est susceptible de bifurquer, soit pour revenir à l’équilibre antérieur, soit pour basculer vers des trajectoires qui le mènent à l’effondrement, ou à un nouvel état d’équilibre, où à une mutation, à des solutions émergentes, etc. Que ces situations concernent la chimie, les sciences du vivant, la psychologie, les sciences sociales ou l’écologie, l’approche de ces moments de bifurcation, de rupture, de bascule permet d’explorer un moment des systèmes à la fois inquiétant et cependant porteur d’opportunités.

L’effraction est une forme d’agression qui se prête à une description spécifique, impliquant le forçage de la frontière d’un système, la rapidité ou la brutalité de ce forçage, la pénétration dans l’intérieur, le dépôt de quelque chose dans cet intérieur. La figure de l’effraction permet de parler in abstracto de situations diverses, à des niveaux divers (invasions, cambriolage, infestation, coups et blessures…) qui présentent des analogies systémiques permettant des montées en généralité. Elle permet ainsi d’explorer différents concepts qu’elle évoque dans des disciplines scientifiques et des pratiques, notamment thérapeutiques, également différentes, tout en leur servant de passerelle pour les faire dialoguer.

Elles se structurent en deux demi-journées, consacrées respectivement à une interrogation méthodologique et à une interrogation thématique : « Histoire quantitative et sources numériques, un terrain à sonder » et « Genre et famille : une filiation à explorer ».

What is an eco-cultural niche? Rethinking the shape of eco-cultural niches
This workshop aims at bringing together ecologists, anthropologists, environmentalists and archaeologists, in order to discuss the definition of eco-cultural niches, a concept that was first proposed by Banks et al. 2006. Significant time will be given to open discussions in order to co-create a new theoritical framework for the analysis of human-environment macro-relationships in the past, using the approach of eco-cultural niche modeling. All scholars (students, teachers, researchers,...) interested in this approach can participate to the meeting and discussions.

A wide range of topics and themes will be covered, including the mapping of the “Holy Land” on the moasaïc tiles of Madaba (Jordan), the “Walk to Plato’s Academy” application (Athènes), the archaeology of soundscape, 3D modelling of Jože Plečnik’s unfinished projects in Lubljana, 3D GIS and virtual reality.

Selon un certain nombre d’auteurs – philosophes ou scientifiques –, l’enjeu écologique requiert la remise en cause de notre pensée dite « moderne » ou « occidentale » et des gestes qui la structurent (la hiérarchie culture / nature par exemple). Mais qu’en est-il de l’écriture ? On sait qu’une certaine pensée contemporaine (Blanchot, Barthes, Derrida...) a affranchi l’écriture – et l’expérience dont elle procède – de sa subordination à la pensée et à la parole d’un auteur.

Les pratiques des outils numériques en architecture, urbanisme et paysage
Ouverte aux doctorants de toutes les disciplines (architecture, urbanisme, paysage, sociologie, géographie, histoire, génie civil et génie environnemental), cette journée d’étude doctorale invite à mettre en perspective les enjeux multiples du recours aux outils numériques dans les pratiques architecturales, urbaines et paysagères. Des propositions portant sur les méthodologies qui permettent d’intégrer ces nouvelles pratiques, environnementales, professionnelles et habitantes et leurs effets sur la conception du projet seront attendues au sein de trois sessions thématiques.

Forêts occitanes passées, présentes et futures
Histoire, gestion, valorisation
Le projet collectif de recherches RHEFOREST_81 (Recherches historiques sur les espaces forestiers du Tarn : organisation, ressources, sociétés, territoires) s’inscrit dans la prise de conscience du rôle de conservatoire archéologique des forêts, mais aussi de leur place dans l’économie rurale ancienne. L’objectif est de replacer ces massifs forestiers actuels dans la longue durée de la construction des espaces ruraux. Les thématiques de recherche variées concernent la gestion/exploitation sylvicole, les activités artisanales, l’occupation du sol dans le temps long et la valorisation du patrimoine forestier. Le programme de ces journées comprend des présentations des résultats obtenus dans chacun des quatre axes thématiques du PCR, des présentations de chercheurs extérieurs ayant développé des travaux historiques et archéologiques sur d’autres massifs forestiers, et un forum réunissant institutions et acteurs de la recherche de manière à échanger sur les moyens de concilier archéologie, protection et valorisation patrimoniale, et exploitation forestière.

Qu'est-ce qu'artificialiser veut dire ?
Définitions comparées de l’artificialisation des sols en contexte de contrainte foncière forte
L’introduction de la doctrine « zéro artificialisation nette » dans le plan Biodiversité en 2018 et la promulgation de la loi Climat et résilience en août 2021 ont placé au cœur de l’actualité immobilière la nécessité de réduire la consommation de terrains dans la construction. La réflexion scientifique a exploré de nombreuses voies afin de répondre à cet impératif. Il a cependant été rapidement fait état de la difficulté de mesurer correctement l’artificialisation des sols. Le problème se situerait en amont : les définitions de ce que l’on entend par « artificialisation » ne sont toujours pas concordantes. Cette journée d’étude invite les spécialistes de la question à apporter une lecture actualisée de la notion d’artificialisation, notamment dans les champs juridique, économique, écologique, agronomique ou urbanistique, mais aussi dans toute autre approche permettant d’enrichir le débat contradictoire sur un objet devenu politique.

Archaeologists use different methods for visualizing their data – for analysis and for presentation. The international spring school will discuss successful ways to visualize these data and challenges and successes in the application of both GIS and network analysis (NA). Through an integration between theory, studies, and tutored practice, we aim to access the two learnt methods to each participant for independent use.

Mental maps": between memory transcription and symbolic projection
TRANSCRIPT
The notion of "mental maps" will therefore be considered according to two different meanings and uses: 1) the internal representation of a space travelled through (cognitive map) and 2) the representation of a set of entities or concepts (mind map). The terms "memory transcription" can be understood as the translation and recording on a graphic support of elements present in the mind. The terms of "symbolic projection" are conceived as the fact of externalizing by the means of signs or symbols on a graphic support, the two types of representation: the representation of a traversed space or the representation of a set of entities or concepts. The points of contact, crossover, reversal, between what could be called "representation of space" and "space of representation" are little explored. How can we better apprehend the complex notion of "mental map"? The question of memory transcription? Of the "symbolic projection"? Can we identify meeting points between these two polarities and if possible a continuum?
