Sociability, Progress and Innovation (1650-1850)
Cet appel à contribution se propose d’interroger les usages et significations des idées de « progrès » et d’« innovation » - qu’elles soient en rapport avec la technologie, l’économie, la politique, la religion ou la culture - au cours du long XVIIIe siècle et leurs impacts sur les pratiques sociales. Il s’attachera à mesurer les effets de l’innovation sous toutes ses formes (technique, politique, économique, artistique, littéraire, etc.) sur les sociabilités dans les sociétés européennes et coloniales. Il sera également intéressant d’envisager la sociabilité elle-même comme une innovation conceptuelle et sociale.

Edition and editorial practices, past and present
This international, bilingual conference organised with the Société Française Shakespeare and the Société d’Études Anglaises et Américaines des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles seeks to analyse the world of edition and editions in the early modern period, as well as of works first produced in the early modern period. This conference therefore proposes to bring together discussions of the publishing and editorial worlds of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, and the stakes and questions that underpin the making of contemporary editions of early modern texts.

Le colloque « Repenser le Sahara médiéval : documents connus, lectures inédites (XIIIe-XVIe siècle) » clôture un projet Émergence(s) soutenu par la ville de Paris entre 2019 et 2023 et développé au sein de l’UMR Orient et Méditerranée. À travers une approche multiscalaire, du local au global, le Sahara médiéval (hors région nilotique) est pris en compte non seulement comme une interface dynamique, capable d’assurer la connexion et la mise en étroite relation des territoires qui l’entourent, mais également comme une aire chrono-culturelle à part entière, se plaçant dans l’altérité, politique, économique, sociale et culturelle, du Maghreb et de l’Afrique sahélienne.

The Idea of Economic Constitution in Europe: Genealogy and Overview
The notion of “Economic Constitution” has now become a key concept not only in law, but also in other social sciences (economics, political philosophy, etc.). The 7th Journées internationales David-Constant therefore propose to retrace the somewhat turbulent history of the concept and to study its current relevance within the various (state and supranational) legal orders in Europe. Coinciding with the launch (in Open Access) of the edited volume The Idea of Economic Constitution in Europe. Genealogy and Overview (Brill), this interdisciplinary symposium (held in English and French with simultaneous translation) will gather the nearly thirty contributors to the volume, in order to extend the discussions covered in the latter. Beyond the global overview of the issues in positive and comparative law, the speakers will also question the theoretical and conceptual frameworks that structure the current debates in and across law, economy and politics.

Summer school in global and transnational history
In the nearly half century since the EUI History Department was established, the contours of European history have shifted away from nation-based or comparative approaches. The department now defines itself a center for the study of transnational, global and comparative history. All of these approaches are implicitly about creating a new history of Europe, but how are they accomplishing this goal? What is the outlook for the future of this project? This summer school is devoted to asking, “What is European History in the 21st Century?” As historians call for the decolonization of history, and, simultaneously, face the historical distortions encouraged by resurgent populist nationalisms, reflection on the possibilities and problems of European history have never seemed more urgent.

Capitalism, liberalism and constitutionalism
Les liens d’origine entre le libéralisme et le constitutionnalisme sont bien connus, leurs évolutions l’étant un peu moins. Les liens entre le capitalisme et le libéralisme et leurs évolutions ont également été souvent soulignés et commentés. En revanche, les liens entre le capitalisme et le constitutionnalisme ont été très peu analysés, fort peu par les juristes, un peu par les économistes et par les philosophes. Le dénominateur « libéral » commun apparaît d’évidence à première vue, mais il doit quand même être sérieusement interrogé. En tous les cas, relier capitalisme et constitutionnalisme via ou non le filtre du libéralisme reste une démarche jusqu’ici largement inexplorée. Le colloque s’appuie sur une démarche pluri et même interdisciplinaire, qui réunit des chercheurs en droit, philosophie, science politique et sciences économiques.

Les outils juridiques de cette « économie sans travail » sont effectivement voués à la rémunération d’un quid ontologiquement très différent des prestations qui font l’objet des relations synallagmatiques classiques (le travail, l’échange de biens).
