“Angelaki: Journal of the Theoretical Humanities”, special issue (33.5)
This special issue of Angelaki: New Work in the Theoretical Humanities - book series invites contributions that revisit the concept of khôra, introduced in Plato’s Timaeus as a “third kind” beyond being and becoming, a matrix, a receptacle, and reinterpreted in contemporary philosophy, most notably by Derrida. Situated between presence and absence, intelligibility and materiality, khôra resists stable categorization while remaining indispensable for thinking space, inscription, and receptivity. We seek papers that engage khôra across disciplines, exploring its implications for spatial theory, media, politics, ecology, and aesthetics, as well as its limits and possible reconfigurations today.

This conference aims to study the history and evolution of two classical Greek concepts, anarchy and polyarchy, whose legacy, considered from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD, unfolds at the crossroads between politics and religion. It will explore the transmission of the classical Greek, and particularly Platonic, condemnation of anarchy and polyarchy, and its connection with the apologia for monarchy in political and philosophical thought during the Hellenistic and Roman periods and in Judeo-Christian thought.

Suspense, curiosité et surprise dans les narrations antiques
Journée de lancement du programme IntrigAnt
Ce projet, porté par Louis Autin (Sorbonne Université / IUF), Rémi Bénière et Romain Loriol (Lyon-3), a pour but d’interroger la théorie du suspense et sa mise en œuvre dans les intrigues antiques. La première journée a une vocation essentiellement théorique et permettra de présenter les grands enjeux du projet, qui doit se dérouler sur trois années, avec quatre journées d’études alternativement organisées à Sorbonne Université et Lyon-3 et un colloque final.

This conference aims, through a resolutely interdisciplinary approach, to explore the relations between animals and their environments. Bringing together scholars in ancient and medieval philology, the history of zoological knowledge, and contemporary ecological sciences, the event seeks to examine how living beings interact with their surroundings—and how these interactions have been conceptualised, described, and modelled from Antiquity to the present. Two main thematic axes will structure the discussion: 1. Animals and Environments: Ancient and Modern Ecologies; 2. Animal Ecological Awareness: Perception, Umwelt, and Narrative Models

Cette journée d’étude se propose d’explorer les représentations de Rome du Ier au XVe siècle, en croisant les approches littéraires, linguistiques, artistiques et archéologiques. Il s’agira d’interroger les modalités de construction, de transmission et de réinterprétation de l’image de Rome, en tenant compte à la fois des intentions des auteurs et des contextes culturels, politiques et idéologiques.

Faire église dans les textes et les images
Continuités et mutations dans l'Occident chrétien (IVe - IXe siècles)
Le premier colloque de l’ANR E-CCLESIA Construire l’église-monument par les textes et les images, est intrinsèquement lié à la première phase chronologique du projet, tout en étant largement ouvert sur la suivante. Il propose aux intervenants de réfléchir à l’applicabilité des notions de continuité et de mutation aux textes issus des différents genres littéraires et aux images de diverses natures qui représentent chacun, selon les modalités qui leur sont propres, l’église-monument. L’objectif est bien en effet de mener une réflexion sur les images et les textes qui évoquent l’église comme bâtiment, et non sur les édifices eux-mêmes.

La Préhistoire en sons et images
Le connu, l’inconnu et l’imaginaire
Les sociétés humaines se sont toutes dotées de récits concernant leurs origines. Les objets matériels, par leur caractère visible et tangible, occupent une place particulièrement importante dans ces récits. Au XIXe siècle, le développement de l’archéologie scientifique dans les sociétés occidentales a profondément modifié notre rapport à ces objets du « passé » dont l’ancienneté s’était subitement révélée bien plus profonde. Dans ces récits des origines, ici ou ailleurs, l’imaginaire vient donc combler les vides, et cela plus encore là où les connaissances scientifiques dominent et invitent les sociétés à accepter l’inconfort du doute.

Le quatrième numéro de la Revue de pédagogie des langues anciennes comportera un dossier thématique intitulé « L’image en cours de Langues et Cultures de l’Antiquité ». Il est également possible de proposer des contributions sur d’autres sujets qui prendront place dans une section intitulée Varia.

Le colloque vise à étudier la place accordée à l’étude de la Nature dans le projet philosophique cicéronien. Il s’agira notamment d’examiner : comment Cicéron articule la théorie néo‑académicienne du doute et l’enquête sur la nature ? comment il se positionne par rapport aux physiques hellénistiques ? en quoi ses dialogues contribuent à la circulation des savoirs sur la nature, le monde, les astres à la fin de la République ?
