The aim of this conference is to study the dissident/resistant student press produced both in Central-Eastern and Southeastern Europe and by students from these countries abroad.

Ethnic and Religious Minorities and their Media in the English-speaking world
This one-day conference, organized by GRER-ICT Les Europes dans le monde (UR 337, Université Paris Cité) and IHRIM (Université Clermont Auvergne) is dedicated to illuminating a crucial yet underexplored area: the media (written press, radio, television, internet, etc.) of ethnic and/or religious minorities in Great Britain, the United States, South Africa, and other English-speaking countries. These minority media, operating on the fringes of the dominant mainstream media, are not just a significant platform, but also an essential lifeline for the ethnic and/or religious minorities they represent.

Au carrefour des langues et des cultures : la presse allophone en Égypte
XIXe-XXe siècles
Il s’agira d’étudier au cours de cette journée la présence et les manifestations de la presse allophone en Égypte (XIXe siècle-milieu du XXe siècle). Cette presse a pu être exprimée en plusieurs langues aux côtés de l’arabe, reconnue comme langue officielle. Des journaux et revues ont vu le jour en anglais, en français, en italien, en grec, en arménien. Quels étaient leurs instigateurs, leurs acteurs, les lieux où ils étaient imprimés, les lecteurs auxquels ils s’adressaient ? Que sait-on des conditions dans lesquelles ils ont été produits, financés, puis distribués, comment ils ont circulé, de quelle réception ils ont bénéficié, quels modèles esthétiques et/ou typographiques ont adopté ou inventé ? Comment ont-ils dialogué avec les titres publiés en arabe et/ou avec des périodiques en dehors de l’espace égyptien ?

Production, financing, distribution, circulation and reception (XIX°-XX° centuries)
Long ignored by specialists, the foreign-language press exists in most countries at the margins of the global media system. In some countries, especially in those that attract large flows of immigrants, exiles and expatriates, these periodicals are numerous and of a great variety. For the 10th Transfopress Encounter, we invite papers on the organization and functioning of the allophone press, its funding, its distribution, circulation and reception by its readres.

Éditer en exil en temps de régimes autoritaires en Europe médiane (1918-1989)
À l’occasion de cette journée, il s’agira d’appréhender l’Europe médiane entre 1918 et 1989, à la fois comme lieu de départ de dissidents à des régimes autoritaires s’exilant ailleurs dans le monde et lieu d’accueil pour certaines éditions d’exil. L’attention se portera avant tout sur l’expérience liée à la création de maisons d’éditions dans ces différents contextes. De Paris à New-York, de Berlin à Rome, en passant par des villes comme Prague ou Bucarest, ce phénomène éditorial constitue un objet d’étude en soi, ainsi qu’un observatoire privilégié pour mieux cerner les différentes dissidences ainsi exprimées. Une place particulière est occupée au sein de ce corpus par l’édition allophone, autrement dit, les publications dans des langues autres que celles établies / reconnues comme officielles et / ou minoritaires dans l’espace où elles voient le jour.

The Foreign-Language Press in the French Capital (19th-21st Centuries)
This conference aims to highlight the contribution of the foreign-language press published in Paris and its outskirts - of which many titles remain to be discovered - to a better understanding of the topography, polyphony, and sociology of the city. It will also look at how this press influenced the evolution of the Parisian sociocultural landscape and facilitated a better integration of its readers to the host country. The study of newspapers and periodicals, founded for and by various linguistic communities, should allow us to shed light on a relatively unknown aspect of the history of the Parisian press and help us lay the groundwork for a polyphonic history of the press published in Paris and its surrounding suburbs.

Radio in mobility. Programs, practices, techniques and perspectives

Le GRER, avec la revue RadioMorphoses, continue à explorer les formes et les mutations de la radio, dans la continuité du colloque organisé en collaboration avec l’équipe PRIM de l’Université de Tours les 21 et 23 novembre 2019. Nous nous penchons sur une dimension profondément contemporaine et en même temps intemporelle : celle de la mobilité. Intemporelle car la radio, tour à tour clandestine, pirate, périphérique, transnationale, transportable, adaptable, routière, a toujours rimé avec mobilité. Contemporaine car liée à de nouvelles technologies mobiles bouleversant les cadres de production, de diffusion et les pratiques, tout particulièrement dans le domaine de l’information. La mobilité, avec Internet, est peut-être la notion qui caractérise le plus l’âge digital de la radio. Et pourtant, elle n’a pas fait l’objet d’un travail de réflexion et de recherche spécifique – ou trop peu - dans le cadre des études sur les mutations numériques de ce média.

The Armenian language press in France and the creation of a transnational space
La Bibliothèque Nubar de l’UGAB (Paris) et l’université Paris-Diderot, avec le soutien du réseau Transfopress, réseau international prenant pour objet la presse allophone, et de la Bibliothèque universitaire des langues et civilisations (BULAC), s’associent pour organiser une journée d’étude sur le phénomène de la presse en langue arménienne comme presse allophone, en prenant pour terrain d’études la France. La presse allophone, entendue comme la presse écrite en langues autres que le(s) langue(s) officielles du pays où elle paraît, est un important phénomène transnational, tant dans sa dimension historique que contemporaine. Si la presse arménophone en diaspora a fait l’objet d’études disjointes, sur certaines périodes, ou dans certains pays (notamment la France), ce phénomène n’a pas véritablement fait l’objet d’une étude plus globale. Cette journée d’études se propose de resituer la presse arménophone publiée en France dans un cadre plus large, en s’interrogeant sur le rôle de cette presse dans la création d’un espace transnational ou d’espaces transnationaux.
