Cinéma, spoliations, restitutions
Ce colloque explore les spoliations du patrimoine cinématographique entre 1933 et 1945, phénomène largement méconnu. Les communications révèlent la complexité de ces saisies : spoliation des œuvres, des matériels, des cinéastes, des laboratoires ou des lieux de projection. Les interventions permetteront de comprendre les mécanismes précis de cette politique méthodiquement élaborée : ses ramifications régionales, le rôle des institutions impliquées et des acteurs clés, ainsi que les œuvres et les réalisateurs spoliés.

L’art dans le droit, le droit dans l’art
Les Cahiers des rencontres Droit & Art (CRDA) - 11e numéro
Les Rencontres Droit & Arts ont été initiées en 2012 par Patricia Signorile, en collaboration avec le Musée Granet, la faculté de droit et de science politique et le LID2MS. Ces rencontres sont nées d’un dialogue entre juristes, acteurs du monde universitaire et artistique. Portées par une volonté de croiser les regards, ces rencontres ont abouti en 2019 à la création des Cahiers des Rencontres Droit & Arts. Depuis 2025, une nouvelle direction ainsi qu’un nouveau partenariat avec le LESA insufflent un dynamisme renouvelé à ce projet. Les chercheur·es en droit et en arts sont invité·es à explorer les pistes de réflexion suivantes, sans que celles-ci ne soient exhaustives.

Memoria, linaje y ley Memoria, linaje y ley en el proceso de legitimación en el proceso de legitimación de la monarquía de Castilla (siglos XII a XIV)
Ce colloque international se propose d’explorer la mémoire familiale et les procédés de légitimation mis en place par les monarques castillans et leur entourage entre le XIIe et le XIVe siècles, en interrogeant les raisons et les modalités de la promotion, par les rois et les reines, de représentations d’ordre juridique et/ou symbolique en lien avec l’héritage des aïeux. La réflexion portera sur le fonctionnement et la puissance des mécanismes qui fondent la légitimité du pouvoir et le rendent acceptable et efficient.

L’histoire de l’art en débat : regards croisés sur une discipline
Pour célébrer le quinzième anniversaire des Jours de l’art, en même temps que les 150 ans de la Faculté des Lettres de l’Institut Catholique de Paris, ce cycle exceptionnel cherche à renouveler notre manière de penser l’histoire de l’art par la rencontre avec les autres disciplines enseignées à l’ICP. Parce que l’art est au cœur de nos sociétés – sollicité, mobilisé, interrogé dans tous les champs du savoir –, nous choisissons de confronter les approches pour explorer la pluralité des méthodologies et des concepts qui s’en saisissent.

Le prix Marcel Wormser récompense chaque année les travaux de chercheurs - étudiants, professionnels ou amateurs - afin de soutenir les travaux menés sur la traçabilité des biens culturels. Il récompense annuellement deux projets en lien avec la recherche de provenance, qu’il s’agisse d’un travail de recherche de provenance ou d’une réflexion thématique sur le sujet.

Call for papers - Ethnology, anthropology
In the historical context of the repatriation of stolen African objects preserved in European museums, little attention has been paid to the endogenous spaces and structures of conservation from which African objects have been extracted since the 15th century. However, the museum institution that Europe seeks to impose on African societies as a solution to their current conservation is a recent initiative and not adapted to African realities. Furthermore, the aim of the debate on the spoliation of African cultural property is not to insist essentially on the problem of provenance or documentation of the stolen objects, even less on the “actors of the theft” or “collectors,” but to question the meaning and significance of African cultural productions in time and space. It is a question of proposing a historical-cultural reading of African societies, contradicting the discourses that disfavor the return of looted objects. The authors and promoters of these discourses, denying the African societies that produced and used these stolen cultural objects, the ability to receive and preserve them properly.

Ce colloque interdisciplinaire et international a pour objectif l'étude des expressions de la violence à la cour de France, du Moyen Âge au XIXe siècle. Le colloque propose d’analyser les formes, les acteurs, les motivations, les effets et les discours relatifs à la violence dans le cadre spécifique de la société de cour, en questionnant la validité du concept de la cour en tant qu'espace de régulation des rapports sociaux, de tempérance et de contrôle progressif des émotions.

Le chef d’œuvre dans l’art de bâtir du Moyen Âge à l’époque contemporaine
In the scope of the journal Ædificare, a call for abstracts is launched on the question of the “masterpiece in the art of building from the Middle Ages to the Comtemporary era”. The discussion will begin from theoretical and practical, multidisciplinary, national and international perspectives. All interested parties are invited to submit proposals to the committee, in particular, but not exclusively, along the following two lines. First, the ritual demonstration of competence, which will help analyze the available sources - old or new - on this procedure : duration, nature of the subject, material realization, conservation. It would be interesting to examine the basis for such a practice in Latin countries, and its absence in Anglo-Saxon countries. Then, the technical feat will be understood as a challenge, while examining the plurality of masterpiece practices and their meanings : challenges launched between communities or to oneself, technical feats, their visual or written representations, their effects on spectators or the public (procession, world’s fairs, etc.).

Objects of Law in the Medieval and Early Modern Worlds
Materials and texts function in a variety of ways in legal contexts, they forge diplomatic ties, grant gifts of land, levy taxes, regulate markets, etc. The connection between the materiality of artefacts and the law are multiple, their very nature conveyed information, performed authority, and communicated authenticity. The conference Objects of Law proposes thinking more deeply about the artistic practices that shaped the materiality, iconography, and texts of legal objects in the medieval and early modern period. Objects of Law seeks dialogue between scholars working in art history, history, archaeology, legal history, and related disciplines that deal with legal objects.

1715-1716: The Apex of Jacobitism?
Origins, Representations, and Legacies: Essays in Honour of Daniel Szechi
This collection of essays, entitled ’1715-16 : The Apex of Jacobitism ? Origins, Representations and Legacies’, in honour of the life work of Professor Daniel Szechi aims to re-evaluate the 1715 rising in its broader international context and within the heritage of the long eighteenth century. Contributors who have encountered the Jacobite rising in their respective fields, for example, while studying its industrial, intellectual, and scholarly impact from the Treaty of Union to the present, are invited to propose their contributions. As Jacobitism was a ubiquitous landmark of the eighteenth century, researchers are invited to question the military, political, literary, and/or cultural significance of the rising. The editors are particularly interested in consequential research on the rising through a comparative perspective in the interdisciplinary fields of literature, material culture, and travel or media studies.

This conference will look at the theoretical debates surrounding the concept of nobility, its social repercussions and nobility of soul as a discriminating criterion, not only in the aristocratic social group but in the whole society. How does the ethical dimension associated with the notion of nobility help to justify its social pre-eminence? Do medieval authors agree or, on the contrary, oppose each other in resolving the contradiction between a moral quality and its hereditary transmission? How did these theoretical concepts translate into practice? Do they give rise to expectations or even social demands?

L’objectif de ce colloque, qui se tiendra les 18 et 19 novembre 2022, est d’étudier les relations riches et complexes qu’entretiennent le droit et le cinéma, et dont le premier signe est le nombre impressionnant de films qui, depuis les débuts du cinéma, mettent en scène des questions ou des situations juridiques, racontent des histoires dont les protagonistes sont enquêteurs, juges, avocats, procureurs, victimes, accusés, détectives, gangsters, ou encore shérifs, marshals, outlaw, etc., transformant en décors ces lieux institutionnels de la justice que sont les tribunaux, les commissariats, les bureaux d’avocats ou les prisons, notamment.

C'est à toutes ces sources qu'est dédiée cette journée d’étude qui se tiendra à Rennes le 9 juin 2022. Forms, Iconographies, Materials, Uses and Cataloguing”. The event intended to provide an overview of the development of research on illuminated legal manuscripts in Europe, on cataloging, digitization and materiality of these manuscripts with the aim of bringing together renowned experts on the subject and reflecting on the methodological implications and practical and theoretical challenges that this investigation entails.

La revue trimestrielles Le Gnomon publiée sous l'égide de l'Institut international d'histoire du notariat, association créée en 1974, consacrera son numéro de l'été 2021 aux relations entre l'art et les notaires. Ce numéro thématique souhaite montrer les interactions existantes entre les différentes formes d'art (littérature, théâtre, cinéma, sculpture, peinture, photographie, architecture, musique, opéra, etc.) et le monde notarial. Nous recherchons donc des contributions d'une douzaine de pages maximum, avec illustrations/images libres de droits pour une date limite de dépôt fixée au 15 avril 2021.

The Illuminated Legal Manuscript: Production, Circulation and Use in Medieval Europe
International Workshop of the research team Ius Illuminatum
The workshop has the aim of giving an overview of the progress of research regarding illuminated legal manuscripts in Europe with the aim of carrying out a reflection on the methodological implications and on the practical and theoretical challenges that such research entails. During the Workshop, different case of study related to some regions of the European territory will be analyzed with a particular attention to what concerns the production, use and circulation of the different manuscripts examined. The Workshop also aims to question the potential offered by new technologies and the interdisciplinary approach in the study of the illuminated legal manuscript in order to overcome the limits and open up innovative and fruitful research paths.

While recent work has renewed our knowledge of medieval execution sites and of the internal layout of detention facilities, much remains to be done to understand the distribution of prison spaces and territories, in particular to shed light on the socio-spatial dynamics and logic of their establishment. These prison spaces evolved between the beginning and the extreme end of the Middle Ages, with prisons only multiplying from the 13th century onwards. These evolutions must be understood in close coordination with the evolutions of medieval justice and its spatial practices. Studies can be carried out at the scale of a building, a neighborhood, a city, a city, one or more regions.
