Les XXIIIe rencontres de la Fondation se proposent de réexaminer en profondeur les relations complexes, évolutives et structurantes que Le Corbusier entretient avec la nature. L’objectif est de restituer à la fois les fondements historiques de cette pensée et ses traductions analytiques, en interrogeant la nature comme cadre écosystémique, comme projet spatial et comme vecteur de refondation sociale et culturelle à l’heure des bouleversements climatiques contemporains.

Architecture has a Soil Problem

From the digging of foundations to the sealing of surfaces, architectural practice typically treats soil as ‘dirt’—as matter out of place — an interchangeable substance devoid of specificity, meaning, or vitality. Soils are too often reduced to a passive background for human activity, an empty canvas to build upon rather than a living milieu to design with, within or through. This ignorance indirectly contributes to their depletion and demise. What would it mean to resist this thanatological path and instead reconceptualize both soil and architecture through their entanglements, in relation to the pedogenetic processes they co-produce ?

« Turâb’26 » : Expériences de la matérialité de la construction en terre
Every handful of earth holds a story of "de-materiality," where the sensory philosophy of earth coexists with innovations and new technologies that push its technical limits in a desire to destigmatize it. Although durable and ecological, earth as a material faces cultural resistance tied to an image of precariousness, a perception fostered by modernity. Thus, in the context of alarming climate change, reinventing earthen construction has become urgent, if not necessary. This conference approaches research on earthen construction at the crossroads of poetics, engineering, and innovation. By highlighting earth architecture in Tunisia and around the world, it offers a transdisciplinary and resilient perspective on a universal material, putting its inextricably linked material and immaterial dimensions in tension.

Organized by the French Federation of Landscape Architects (FFP, Fédération Française du Paysage), the 61st World Congress of the International Federation of Landscape Architecture (IFLA) will take place in Nantes, France, from September 10-12, 2025, under the theme "Guiding Landscapes". Landscape architects play a key role in adapting cities to climate change at a variety of scales. Planning, conceiving, and managing new resilient urban districts, reorganizing the public realm by reopening soils, increasing rainwater infiltration, and developing urban biodiversity to cool cities are all essential challenges.

The aim of the call (papers and posters) is to update and put into perspective the teaching of the architect Giancarlo De Carlo, twenty years after his death. By reconnecting with the roots of a way of thinking that closely links theory and practice, the aim is to situate De Carlo's contributions within the theoretical and methodological debates of his time and to place his legacy in the context of the debates and practices that question the evolution of architectural education and their links (or lack of links) with contemporary professional practices. The combination of these two objectives should make it possible to open up a more global debate on the development of architectural education in the face of global changes.

Making architectural history through the prism of environmental and decolonial issues
From historiography to the epistemology of history, what are the "new problems, new approaches, new objects" - taking up and updating the postures of Pierre Nora and Jacques Le Goff - new periodizations, new geographical areas of architectural history? This symposium aims to clarify the complexity of these narratives, which are both plural and situated, in order to better understand the methodological questions they raise and the contemporary issues they illuminate. It will question these new data and make them resonate with approaches that claim to be postcolonial and/or environmental. It will examine the epistemological implications of the use of certain notions, such as the anthropocene, and their mobilization in the field of architectural research.

À l’heure d’un mouvement divergent entre l’architecture en perte de pouvoir d’agir et l’art comme garant d’une puissance du faire, en quoi les langages de l’art formulent-il davantage de possibles en architecture ? Les rencontres « Marges de manœuvre #02 : L’art comme puissance de faire dans les écoles d’architecture et du paysage » postulent l’acte d’expression comme une impulsion (John Dewey, 2010), l’art de passer à l’acte comme un élan de création (Léa Bismuth, 2024) : la question du faire comme un engagement politique.

La quatorzième édition de ces rencontres se tiendra le mercredi 5 juin 2024. Les doctorantes et doctorants sont invité·es à proposer une communication. Ces propositions peuvent concerner l’ensemble des sujets de doctorat en aménagement et urbanisme ou de disciplines connexes ayant directement trait aux problématiques en aménagement et urbanisme.

Subsaharan Africa and Current Ecological Challenges
Transdisciplinary Perspectives
In the face of the ecological crisis currently gripping the world, the consequences of which are spreading across the globe, Africa, once considered an ecological fallow land, has also embarked on the path of a development model requiring the abusive exploitation of nature. In this context of diminishing ecological habitus, the forthcoming collective book aims at exploring the pervasiveness of the environmental paradigm in the arts, letters, crafts, humanities, discourses (political, social, etc.) and media of sub-Saharan Africa. Such a transdisciplinary perspective is intended to highlight the complexity of the object of analysis, and the contributions will explore its impact on all scales of existence.

Issue 46 of the Cahiers de Mariemont undertakes to explore the various ways in which ruins, real or fake, have been incorporated into the art of gardening. This volume therefore calls on historians, art historians, archaeologists, architects, town planners, botanists, gardeners and other garden design specialists to identify the common features and major developments in the practice of integrating and enhancing the value of ruins into European gardens over the centuries.

Ce que l’architecture fait à l’écologie
Les enjeux relatifs à la lutte contre le réchauffement climatique, à la raréfaction des ressources, et à la préservation de la biodiversité déterminent aujourd’hui de plus en plus la conception et la construction des édifices et des espaces urbains. Ce colloque international a pour ambition d’interroger les possibles effets de rétroaction : si l’écologie – entendue ici comme science, mais surtout comme éthique de l’action – change indubitablement l’architecture, dans quelle mesure l’architecture change-t-elle également l’écologie ? Cette question se pose à propos des réalisations concrètes dans lesquelles s’engagent les architectes et assimilés (ingénieurs, urbanistes, paysagistes, etc.), mais aussi au regard des doctrines et théories qu’ils et elles formulent.
