  XXXIIIe colloque de l'Association française pour la peinture murale antique (AFPMA)

  Le XXXIII^e colloque de l'AFPMA se tiendra à Bordeaux, au musée d'Aquitaine, les jeudi 26 et vendredi 27 novembre 2020. Il est un lieu d'échange autour de toutes les problématiques et recherches ayant trait à la peinture murale et au stuc de l'Antiquité, en France et plus largement dans tout l'Empire romain. Archéologues, chercheurs, étudiants, historiens d'art, restaurateurs, muséographes, iconographes et bien sûr toichographologues sont donc invités à proposer une communication de 10 ou 20 minutes.

  Ex marmore antiquo sculpsit

  Engravings and the distribution of ancient reliefs in the modern era

  Œuvres sur papier multiples, reproductibles, facilement transportables et relativement peu onéreuses, les gravures constituent dès la Renaissance un vecteur privilégié de diffusion des savoirs antiquaires. De manière très précoce, dès le dernier quart du XV^e siècle en Italie, les graveurs s’emparent des modèles sculptés antiques, et tout particulièrement des reliefs (Le Triomphe de Bacchus et Ariane, burin florentin, British Museum, v. 1480-1490). Les interprétations de sarcophages, de décors monumentaux ou de stèles continuent à être particulièrement prisées durant toute l’époque moderne et font l’objet de publications ponctuelles ou plus systématiques, sous la forme de gravures isolées, de recueils ou d’ouvrages scientifiques illustrés. L’objet de cette journée d’étude sera d’étudier comment l’estampe a permis de faire circuler dans toute l’Europe des images de reliefs uniques ou typiques.

  Winners and losers from Antiquity to the present day

  C’est un lieu commun de dire, en parlant notamment des conflits, que l’histoire est écrite par les vainqueurs et que les vaincus sont, en quelque sorte, les oubliés de cette histoire pour ne servir que de faire-valoir aux premiers. Or, dans le contexte politique et historiographique récents - voire plus ancien, par exemple avec La vision des vaincus de Nathan Wachtel (1971) -, force est de constater que l’importance prise par le discours mémoriel, reposant notamment sur une lecture souvent victimaire, a progressivement remis les « vaincus » au cœur du discours et du questionnement scientifique. Par ailleurs, l’évolution des médias et tout particulièrement l’importance prise par internet montrent un brouillage de cette dichotomie en donnant plus facilement la voix aux vaincus eux-mêmes ou parfois à leurs descendants. Cette dynamique sociétale d’ensemble remet en cause, explicitement ou implicitement, l’écriture d’une histoire considérée comme construite « par le haut », officiellement, pour la confronter à un discours pluriel et dont les fondements scientifiques ne sont pas toujours étayés.

  The Philosophical Journal of Conflict and Violence (PJCV) is seeking articles dealing with philosophical issues that arise in connection with the conception of conflict and violence within Plato’s philosophy. Conflict and violence are often regarded as two of Plato’s main interests in his political thought, especially when he discusses the dread and danger they bring to the city. However, is it possible to understand conflict and violence in Plato’s work only from this political and rather pejorative standpoint? It is possible to see conflict and violence in Plato’s philosophy as something else, rather than a threat to the harmony of the community?

  Funerary practices and identity/ies

  The passing of an individual in a community generally leads to the implementation of a complex funerary operational chain repeated upon each death. This behaviour can therefore be opposed to non-funerary deposits, characterized by the absence of funerals and/or of a dedicated tomb (corpse rejection or abandonment, burial deprivation - Boulestin 2016). The study of a given group’s “practice” (ibid.) and of its variability allows to identify differences in the deceased’s treatment and to grasp some aspects of the society of the living. Rituals and funerals – which are difficult to assess in the case of pre- and protohistoric populations - as well as funeral gestures, thus reveal one or several of the deceased’s identities. They can consist of their individual identity, related for instance to their sex, age or social status, or of their collective identity, which is “lived and produced” (Lenclud 2008) and refers to their belonging to a group. In the latter case, the role of a funerary practice is to maintain the links between its actors and to ensure its own continuity.

  Towards a Decentered History of Dance

  How is history moved, reconfigured, stimulated, by current research on dance? In connection with the Lyon Dance Biennale and the forthcoming publication of A History of Dance in the West (Ed. Seuil, Sept. 2020), this international conference in Lyon, France, aims to extend questions addressed by scholars’ contributions to the book, as well as generate entirely new dialogues via various acts of “decentering” dance historical scholarship. The polysemic notion of decentering is here understood as an invitation to reevaluate theoretical models, methods, approaches and historiographies of dance.

  2021 marks the bicentennial of the Greek uprising which resulted, at the end of a long war, in the country’s independence:Greece was thus born as a modern nation while romanticism, particularly in France, made it one of its favorite themes,carrying out out a vibrant philhellenic movement. The commemoration should not, however, cover up that there were andare other Greeces, from antiquity to our own day. The theme of this issue is also given in the plural since the construction of Greek art in the modern era is but one of the phenomena considered here. It is the plurality of constructions of Greecein art which unifies the collection of studies and essays which we envision.

  Junk Food and Poor Food Habits from Antiquity to the Present Days

  Le Centre d'histoire espaces et cultures (CHEC, université Clermont-Auvergne), en partenariat avec l'université Bordeaux-Montaigne ainsi que la fondation Nestlé-France, organise en novembre 2020 un colloque international sur la malbouffe et les mauvaises pratiques alimentaires de l'Antiquité à nos jours. Il s'agira d'appréhender et comprendre les effets des mauvaises pratiques alimentaires sur les individus, les sociétés ou l'environnement sur le temps long. Ainsi, le concept de malbouffe, relativement récent, sera étudié et interrogé à différentes périodes et dans différents espaces afin d'en mesurer l'opérabilité depuis l'Antiquité.

  Crisis and infrastructures: responses to change between materiality and immateriality

  A dialogue between Anthropology, Geography and History

  The purpose of the conference is to explore the interactions between crised and infrastructures starting from a pivotal question: is it possibile to consider transitional processes as moments of "a transformazion that includes some essential elements of the previous phase?" (Pombeni 2013: 12) Or are they to be intended just as a dramatic interruptions and breaks? PhD Students, Post-Docs and Research Fellows of historical, geographical and anthropological training are invited to partecipate in the construction of a moment of dialogue and excange. The aim is to stimulate an interdisciplinary discussion that will encompass all historiographical epochs, from antiquity to the present day, and question not only the role of infrastructure in the resolution of crises, but also the various implications of critical moments and of their conception.

  Histoire de l'art journal issue 86

  2021 marque le bicentenaire de la révolte des Grecs qui aboutit au terme d'une longue guerre à l'indépendance du pays : la Grèce naît alors comme nation moderne et le romantisme, en particulier en France, en fait un de ses thèmes de prédilection, emporté dans un vibrant mouvement philhellénique. La commémoration ne doit toutefois pas cacher qu'il fut et qu'il est d'autres Grèces, de l'Antiquité à nos jours. Aussi le thème de ce numéro est-il décliné au pluriel, car la construction de l’art grec à l’époque moderne n’est qu’un des phénomènes considérés ici. C’est la pluralité des constructions de la Grèce dans l'art qui fait l’unité de la collection d’études et d’essais que nous attendons.

  Second young researchers' conference in historical linguistics in Lyon

  L’association lyonnaise Diachronies contemporaines, vouée à la promotion de l’activité scientifique des jeunes chercheurs en linguistique historique, organise les Deuxièmes rencontres lyonnaises des jeunes chercheurs en linguistique historique. Après une première édition dédiée spécifiquement aux langues gallo-romanes, cette seconde édition entend s’ouvrir également à l’étude des langues anciennes indo-européennes. L’objectif de l’événement est de permettre aux jeunes chercheur·ses travaillant sur l’histoire des langues anciennes et gallo-romanes de présenter leurs travaux et d’échanger à ce sujet. La forme de ces rencontres est celle d’un colloque traditionnel à la suite duquel des actes seront édités.
