Decentring Europe: Doing History Otherwise, 1500-present
What does it mean to de-centre Europe in historical research? Can we write a global history, a colonial and imperial history that is not centred on European archives and European analytical categories? How might that change our histories of Europe, and the world? This 2026 edition of the EUI Department of History's summer school takes up a range of such questions as we grapple with why such a de-centring is imperative and what the stakes are for distinct kinds of scholarship.

Ce cycle entend ouvrir à la réflexion et au débat « sur les pas de Marcel Liebman » et tend à prolonger son engagement intellectuel en fournissant des analyses historiques et critiques pour penser le monde d’aujourd’hui.

We invite contributions that focus on the study of market research in the making, in various countries in Europe and elsewhere. The term ‘making’ should be understood here in both senses of the word (the emergence of the field in the 20th century, and the making, i.e. the day-to-day manufacturing of market research surveys). By focusing on the making of market research, we aim to shift the focus away from leading figures in the sector, to examine a more comprehensive range of individuals involved in conducting surveys at different stages. An ecological transition under strain: country, landscape, and uses in contemporary Germany
The starting point for this conference is the observation that the ecological transition in Germany, which one might have thought would be easier or at least more harmonious than in other countries due to the importance that environmental issues have had in German culture, society, and politics from very early on, is in fact encountering numerous obstacles and is even being called into question. This is evidenced, among other things, by the setbacks which the energy transition encounters and by the success of the party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) despite—or perhaps because of—its stance in favour of climate change denial.

Material Life of The Displaced : Categories, belongings, solidarities (16th-20th centuries)
Revue « Diasporas. Circulations, Migrations, Histoire »
This thematic issue of Diasporas. Circulations, Migrations, Histoire. journal invites contributions examining how the material factors shaped the construction of identities, solidarities, and social hierarchies among displaced populations from the sixteenth to the twentieth century. By adopting an approach that encompasses migrants, refugees, and exiles, the issue seeks to explore the role of living conditions, work, housing and consumer practices in decisions regarding departure, settlement, and anchoring, as well as in processes of social mobility and demotion. Studying the history of displaced people through their material lives opens a dialogue on the role of economic factors not only in the categorizations imposed by authorities but also in the processes of self-identification and belonging developed by the displaced themselves.

Compter en situation coloniale dans l’Afrique sous domination française (1830-1962)
Appel à communication au colloque de clôture du programme de recherche COCOLE (« Compter aux colonies ») financé par l’ANR (2022‑2026) qui a étudié la fabrication et les usages de chiffres comptables et des statistiques produits par les administrations coloniales, les entreprises et d’autres acteurs dans l’Afrique sous domination française entre le début du XIXe siècle et les indépendances (années 1960). Le colloque de clôture vise à la fois à présenter un bilan des recherches effectuées dans le cadre de ce programme, à élargir les perspectives ouvertes par l’équipe et à les croiser avec d’autres regards sur les chiffres dans différentes configurations coloniales ou impériales.

Redon, la ville et son pays : carrefour, transport et circulation
Congrès de la Société d’histoire et d’archéologie de Bretagne
Redon occupe en effet une position géographique singulière : c’est un centre installé en périphérie, un nœud de circulation et d’échanges, tant pour les marchandises que pour les personnes. Et, au moins depuis le Moyen Âge, cette petite ville s’est imposée comme un point de convergence des routes terrestres et fluvio-maritimes. Son actuelle position à l’interface entre la Bretagne, les Pays de la Loire et l’Atlantique en a fait un lieu de passage incontournable. Les infrastructures historiques, tels que son port et le canal de Nantes à Brest, témoignent de sa position à l’interface.

Les femmes et l'économie des arts
Commerce et financement au féminin en France (fin XVIIe siècle-1945)
À la croisée de l’histoire de l’art, de l’histoire des femmes et de l’histoire économique, ce colloque propose de s’interroger sur la place des femmes dans les mécanismes de financement de la production et de la diffusion des arts en France (peinture, sculpture, architecture, arts décoratifs, estampe, photographie, etc.). Le colloque s’intéresse tout particulièrement aux stratégies d’adaptation, de contournement et d’affirmation déployées par les femmes françaises ou actives en France pour s’insérer dans des circuits capitalistes masculins selon des modalités qui, au-delà de la simple coexistence des deux sexes dans l’espace économique, peuvent aussi inclure la collaboration, l’émulation, la rivalité et le conflit.

L’objectif de ce dossier d’Almanack, la revue d’histoire de l’Université fédérale de São Paulo est de rassembler des articles de recherche originaux explorant, sous un angle historique, les acteurs, les thématiques et les scénarios qui ont structuré les relations colombo-brésiliennes au cours du long XIXᵉ siècle. Nous privilégierons les contributions issues de l’histoire politique, diplomatique, économique et transnationale, sans exclure les apports de l’histoire sociale ou culturelle traitant des questions internationales proposées. L’usage rigoureux des sources primaires constituera un critère essentiel pour la sélection des articles.

Corporate actors have played a hidden yet highly influential role in shaping the global order, often securing their interests in international organizations, such as the League of Nations and the United Nations. Extractive industries, which focus on natural resources such as oil, gas, minerals, and metals, including rare earths, were the bedrock of capitalism in the long twentieth century. How did they exert their influence within, through and against international organizations? What tools did they adopt to attain their goals at global metropoles such as Addis Ababa, Bangkok, Geneva, New York, and Santiago? Who challenged their efforts and who supported them and how? What effects did formal decolonization have on the role of extractive enterprise in these global spaces?

Invisible Actors in the Making of International Law (1750–2000)
This interdisciplinary conference invites graduate students and early career researchers to consider the genealogy of international law since 1750. It aims to identify new or unrecognised actors – including individuals, groups, and institutions as well as non-human agents – and their contributions to the practices, interpretations, and applications of international law. How did they establish or challenge norms, customs, and institutions? How were their practices, actions, and ideas shaped into law? The event aims to historicise the making of international law by bringing together junior scholars of history and law and to provide a forum for the exploration of new ideas and alternative perspectives, combining and building upon historical and social scientific approaches.

« Money, money, money » : religions, capital, finances
La question financière est l’un des lieux à partir duquel il est possible de saisir les processus de modernisation (et de résistances à la modernisation) qui touchent les religions à l’époque contemporaine. Le problème renvoie à des enjeux de natures très diverses. Se pose d’abord une question qui ressort de l’histoire économique : celle de l’argent des religions et, plus généralement, de leurs possessions. Un autre axe de recherche potentiellement fécond est celui de l’histoire des représentations. Le lien entre certaines religions et l’essor du capitalisme a ainsi pu être souligné, que ce soit pour le saluer, pour le dénoncer ou simplement pour y voir un facteur explicatif de certains processus historiques.

Il s'agit, sous un angle historique, actuel et pluridisciplinaire, de faire un état de la situation de la dette et de l'endette dans les pays de l’Afrique subsaharienne, ce phénomène étant devenu une cause importante des problèmes économliques et sociaux que connaisse ectte région du monde.

Imagining the Future of Ports in the Long Nineteenth Century
Special Issue of The Journal of Transport History
The nineteenth century, as stated by the volumes that have now become classics ofhistoriography by Christopher A. Bayly (2003) and Jürgen Osterhammel (2009), coincideswith a «transformation of the world» in a global sense and «the birth of the modern world». The present proposal aims to collect articles that analyse the perception and response to changes in maritime transport at the harbour level, with respect to port cities considered both as individual cases and as groups of cities belonging to a regional geographic area or connected in a network, and finally as case studies in a comparative perspective.
