  Immoral Money and War Profiteurs (1870-1945)

  Ce colloque se concentre sur les accusations de corruption lancées contre les entreprises qui, dans l’aire européenne, ont réalisé des profits élevés en temps de guerre ou de sorties de guerre, entre le dernier tiers du XIX^e siècle et la première moitié du XX^e siècle. Le poids des guerres comme temps forts historiques se retrouve dans la question des normes publiques. À l’heure où la contradiction potentielle entre gains individuels et intérêt collectif est exacerbée, des sacrifices considérables sont accomplis au nom du salut national et de la collectivité, et le patriotisme est exigé de chacun. Dans le même temps, une dynamique économique particulière voit le jour : les décisions se prennent dans un temps accéléré, les dépenses publiques augmentent de façon considérable, et d’importantes sommes d’argent sont injectées dans le système.

  In the television age, health and the body have been broadcasted in many ways: in short health education films, school television, professional training materials, TV ads, documentaries, reality TV shows and news, as well as stand-alone videos distributed to specific audiences. This three-day conference proposes an exploration of how television formats have influenced and staged bodies, health and healthy practices from local, regional, national and international perspectives, and how these TV programmes spread the conviction that viewers could and should invest in their health and shape their own body.

  The three-day conference aims to investigate how television programmes in their multiplicity approached issues like medical progress and its limits, healthy behaviour or new forms of exercise by adapting them to TV formats and programming...The conference seeks to analyse how television and its evolving formats expressed and staged bodies, health and fitness from local, regional, national and international perspectives. How spectators were invited not only to be TV consuming audiences, but how shows and TV set-ups integrated and sometimes pretended to transform the viewer into a participant of the show. TV programmes spread the conviction that subjects had the ability to shape their own body.

  There is more to space than rocket science. Historians, diplomats, economists, law students, political scientists and sociologists have all contributed to our understanding of the space age and its impact on our societies over the past decades. Sixty years on from the placing of the first human-made object in orbit around Earth, space is now an integral part of our daily lives. Space science and technology are projects for the whole of humankind, reaching not only outside Earth’s atmosphere, but also beyond our Solar System. While the technological and scientific challenges of working, living and travelling in space motivate students to pursue such studies, the impact of space activities on our lives on Earth, on relations between nations and organisations, and our collective recent history, provides fertile ground for students and scholars in the humanities to take up space-related subjects.

La reconstruction de l’Europe fait alors l’objet de débats houleux. Sous la pression des mouvements européanistes, les débats prennent de l’élan surtout à partir de 1948 dans le but de rebâtir l’Europe et la paix en Europe. L’atmosphère de « Guerre froide » est très présente depuis 1946.

  Benelux: Europe and the Cold War

  The Power of non-powers and perspectives on the economic, social and political aspects of European Security Strategy in the early Cold War

  What are the historical roots of views of European defense and Europe's role in Western defence? How did the early European Integration movement perceive American involvement in the development of a common security strategy? This conference will investigate these and other related questions by re-examining the early cold war US/European relationship and the role that early Cold War period developments played in the European Integration Movement. In so doing, this conference will also showcase findings which can contribute to the unification of Cold War and European Integration historiographies.
