Art and research relating to the visible and invisible traces of conflicts - interdisciplinary and inter-artistic approaches to war heritag
This symposium is part of the research project “landscape(s) of the strange. On visible and invisible traces of a regional heritage in transformation. Artistic and theoretical (re)-constructions of a cross-border history marked by major conflicts” started in 2016. To begin with, the project approached the notion of “trace” or “mark” in its material (heritage, architecture, vegetation) and immaterial (memory, culture) dimensions, especially those related to the concrete landscape of Lorraine which bears the mark of a conflictual history opposing Frenchmen and Germans, especially during the two World Wars.

Waste has emerged as a main environmental, economic and social issue in the last fifty years. The convergence of interests from various fields of reflection and action suggests a potential and fruitful “epistemological turn”. Yet this process is still on the verge of formalization. Research and decision on waste organizational and representational systems remain either fragmented or dependent on local context though some waste management recommendations arise from worries on the global consequences of discard. Hence this international symposium aims at opening transatlantic conversations between academic, technical and artistic areas in order to clarify how waste challenges our everyday sciences, knowledges and practices.

Current State Of Knowledge and Research Perspectives
This two-day international conference aims to highlight recent and challenging interdisciplinary studies dealing with complex historical climate/society interactions in Mediterranean during the last two millennia. The study of these existing connections can help in better understanding the role played by past climatic events in the eruption of regional conflicts, in forced migration and displacement of people, in periodically appearing infectious disease outbreaks or in subsistence crises like food shortages and famines Similarly, it seems necessary to identify and analyze socio-economic and technological responses (e.g. water supply systems) together with mitigation and general adaptation strategies, insofar as they existed, to cope with climate change.

La complexité des lieux s’appuiera sur des usages, des acteurs, des symboliques, des significations, des identifications, des appropriations antagonistes ou collaborationnistes. L’échelle retenue est celle du lieu couvrant quelques hectares voire quelques kilomètres carrés, tant en milieu urbain, rural, montagnard, côtier, désertique. La temporalité distinguera le temps court et le temps long sur plusieurs siècles.

En réunissant les doctorants et jeunes docteurs – rattachés, ou ayant été rattachés, à une institution française – dont les travaux portent sur l’Italie préromaine (la péninsule et ses îles), entre l’âge du Bronze récent et le début de la romanisation, l’objectif principal des rencontres est de dresser un état des lieux de la jeune recherche en France, tout en favorisant la création de liens et en stimulant les échanges avec les chercheurs plus confirmés invités à modérer ces deux journées. Afin de mettre en évidence les passerelles transdisciplinaires qui caractérisent les travaux sur l’Italie préromaine, les présentations pourront relever des différents champs disciplinaires qui contribuent à enrichir ce domaine des études : archéologie, histoire, géosciences, épigraphie, philologie, numismatique ou encore histoire des collections.
