    Dans le cadre du programme de recherche ESAU, « Espaces autoritaires en Afrique », l'UMR PRODIG 8586 recrute un post doctorant pour une durée d'un an à compter du 01/09/2014. Ce programme traite du fait autoritaire et pas simplement de l’autoritarisme. Il suggère de mener une étude géographique de l’exercice autoritaire du pouvoir en Afrique dans des régimes politiques variés, y compris ceux considérés comme démocratiques. Il s’agit d’étudier la matérialité et la spatialisation du fait autoritaire.

    Ce Prix, géré par la Fondation MSH, récompense un programme de terrain de recherche d’un doctorant préparant une thèse en ethnologie africaine dans un établissement d’enseignement supérieur français, qu’il soit de nationalité française ou étrangère. Ce prix permet d’effectuer un travail de terrain en Afrique – si possible en Afrique de l’Ouest – portant sur les thématiques d’ethnologie « classique » (systèmes de parenté, organisation sociale, tradition orale) et de rédiger sa thèse dans les meilleures conditions.     French Institute of South Africa Fellowships 2014

    PhD / Postdoctorate

    One or two doctoral or post-doctoral research position are vacant at the French Institute of South Africa. IFAS is a French Research Institute Overseas (IFRE) under the supervision of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the CNRS, covering Southern Africa (UMIFRE 25, USR 3336). These posts are financed through non-renewable (save for exceptional reasons) relocation allowances (Aides à la Mobilité) for a maximum of nine months. Successful applicants will receive the scientific and logistic support of IFAS and will become involved in the scientific life of the Institute by regularly taking part in the ongoing activities (conferences, seminars, conferences, publications, etc.). The relocation allowance comes to €1 200 net per month and, in addition, includes one Paris/Johannesburg/Paris trip which will be refunded on the basis of the price of an economic class air ticket, and medical cover. Nationality will not be a condition for application. Applicants will be selected on the basis of scientific criteria only, although the integration potential of the project into the academic landscape of Southern Africa will be taken into consideration. Priority will be given to applicants whose research is in line with the research programmes of the Institute.

    Within the framework of its research programming, the French Institute of South Africa (UMIFRE 25, USR 3336) finances certain research projects in the Human and Social Sciences on Southern Africa. All funding applications from research units, researchers and students for research work, field work, events or publications for 2014 must imperatively reach us before the 11th of December 2013. Nationality will not be a condition for application, although the existence or prospect of a long-lasting partnership between France and Southern Africa is essential. Financial contribution from another institution is highly desirable. In all cases, funds allocated by IFAS will not exceed 40 000 ZAR or 4 000 EUR. Applicants will receive replies by email during the first quarter of 2014, after their projects have been examined by the members of the Research Council for Africa of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. All applications will be taken into consideration. However, priority will be given to applicants whose research is in line with the research programmes of the Institute

    The post of Scientific Director of the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Research, IMéRA Foundation (Aix-Marseille University), will be vacant as of 1st March 2014. A member of the French Network of Institutes for Advanced Study (RFIEA), IMéRA offers 5- to 10-month residency schemes to researchers and artists to help them develop cross-discipline-oriented research projects in connection with Aix-Marseille University (AMU) teams and laboratories. The Scientific Director assists the President and the General Director of the Foundation for a two-year, renewable mandate. His/her mission statement is to work in agreement with the General Director to devise and implement the scientific activity programme.

    These grants provide support for publication projects on historical American art (pre-1980) that make a significant contribution to scholarship and have an international dimension. Projects may include translations of texts on American art; publications written by non-U.S. scholars or those with a significant number of non-U.S. contributors; and publications with a focused thesis exploring American art in an international context.     2014 Charles C. Eldredge Book Prize in American Art

    Call for Nominations

    The Smithsonian American Art Museum invites nominations for the 2014 Charles C. Eldredge Prize, an annual award for outstanding scholarship in American art history. Single-author books devoted to any aspect of the visual arts of the United States and published in the three previous calendar years are eligible. To nominate a book, send a letter explaining the work’s significance to the field of American art history and discussing the quality of the author’s scholarship and methodology. Self-nominations and nominations by publishers are not permitted. The deadline for nominations is December 1, 2013. Please send them to: The Charles C.     The Smithsonian American Art Museum and its Renwick Gallery invite applications for research fellowships in art and visual culture of the United States. A variety of predoctoral, postdoctoral, and senior fellowships are available. Fellowships are residential and support independent and dissertation research. The stipend for a one-year fellowship is $30,000 for predoctoral fellows or $45,000 for senior and postdoctoral fellows, plus generous research and travel allowances. The standard term of residency is twelve months, but terms as short as three months will be considered; stipends are prorated for periods of less than twelve months.

    LabexMed post-doctoral fellowship - MuCEM

    Dans le cadre du partenariat entre LabexMed et le MuCEM,  il est proposé le recrutement à compter du 1er décembre 2013 d’un chercheur post-doctorant  pour un contrat d’une durée de 12 mois, renouvelable une fois. Le post-doctorant sera sous contrat avec l’Université d’Aix-Marseille et rattaché à une unité de recherche partenaire de LabexMed. Il bénéficiera également d’un statut de chercheur associé au MuCEM. Dans le cadre du présent contrat, le thème de recherche proposé est celui de l’économie des restes en Méditerranée qui donnera lieu à une exposition au MuCEM à l’automne 2016. Le post-doctorant associera ce programme de travail à ses activités de recherche dans le cadre de son laboratoire d’accueil partenaire de LabexMed.
