Tout au long de sa vie » écrit Roberto Bolaño à propos du protagoniste principal de son roman inachevé, Los sinsabores del verdadero policía. Il avait connu des zones rouges. Les quartiers ouvriers, les cordons industriels, tout d’abord, les zones rurales libérées par la guérilla, par la suite. Ce sont précisément ces réminiscences « sesentistas » et « setentistas » de la jeunesse d’Amalfitano que nous nous proposons d’explorer dans le cadre de cette journée d’études.

  La Revue Etudes Canadiennes / Canadian Studies souhaite mettre en lumière les recherches récentes de jeunes doctorants ou de chercheurs chevronnés sur l’histoire de la Nouvelle-France comprise ici dans toute son étendue géographique, de l’Acadie à la Louisiane, du Canada à Terre-Neuve… L’optique de cette publication est de renouveler la littérature scientifique sur des sujets bien connus ou trop connus, ou sur des thématiques peu étudiées jusque là. La question est simple : Y-a-t-il eu depuis dix ans un renouvellement de l’historiographie sur les sociétés et cultures de la Nouvelle-France (1534-1763), sur les relations avec la France de l’ancien régime, sur le monde atlantique, ou sur la question autochtone.

  This one-day conference investigates the role of student movements in individual and collective emancipations, from the struggle for colonial liberation to the challenges posed by contemporary globalisation. This conference seeks to bring these various approaches together, in order to discuss the transnational and connected history of student engagements in colonial liberations and the critical reflection on the multilateral management of conflicts in the postcolonial period. It will investigate internal and external tensions, and the reorganisation of these movements in relation to pacifism, revolutionary struggle, conflict prevention and peace making.

  Journée d'étude ANR 'SOURVA'

  The workshop "Linguistic variation and cultural differentiation" aims to promote discussions between linguists and anthropologists concerning the comparison between models of cultural and linguistic variation in North America. This workshop is organized by the LIAS- IMM as part of a research project SOURVA "Sources of cultural variation" founded by the ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche). SOURVA is devoted to further our understanding of three models of cultural differentiation - the diffusionist model, the transformational model and the transactional model – and to gain a better insight into how they complement each other, and how they apply to the diversity of North American native languages and cultures.

  The goal of this conference is to reassess, challenge, and enlarge the concept of authorship, by giving the author a post-mortem of sorts. To do this, we want to bring together fresh and critical historiographical perspectives on the concept of authorship, and challenge participants to think in comparative and transnational frameworks. Ideally, we seek to draw together work from a wide variety of sub-disciplines, creating a dialogue which connects often-separated fields such as book history and literary history.

  À l’heure où les ondes de choc du Brexit et des élections américaines se prolongent sur cette rive de l’Atlantique dans un contexte de crise politique mondiale, City / Cité rassemble des chercheurs, des élus, des urbanistes, des militants associatifs, des artistes et des journalistes dans un dialogue transatlantique sur le passé, le présent et l’avenir de la démocratie urbaine. Après le lancement de City / Cité à Chicago en 2015 et avant la prochaine étape qui aura lieu à Detroit en 2017, l’événement parisien se tourne vers la question des « quartiers ». Les deux journées de rencontres au Centquatre-Paris proposent un espace d’échange et de réflexion sur les moyens de favoriser l’inclusion sociale et la participation politique dans les quartiers et d’identifier les bonnes pratiques pour la justice sociale.

  Traces and Memories of Slavery in the Atlantic World

  Dans Cultural Trauma: Slavery and the Formation of African American Identity (2001), Ron Eyerman explore la formation de l'identité africaine-américaine à travers le traumatisme culturel de l'esclavage. Au-delà de son impact direct sur celles et ceux qui ont subi l'esclavage, Eyerman considère qu'en tant que processus culturel, le traumatisme est « transmis par l'intermédiaire de diverses formes de représentation et associé à la formation d'une identité et à la construction d'une mémoire collectives ». Cette conférence internationale cherche à examiner les fondements, les mécanismes et l'étendue de ces processus mémoriels.

  The Power of non-powers and perspectives on the economic, social and political aspects of European Security Strategy in the early Cold War

  What are the historical roots of views of European defense and Europe's role in Western defence? How did the early European Integration movement perceive American involvement in the development of a common security strategy? This conference will investigate these and other related questions by re-examining the early cold war US/European relationship and the role that early Cold War period developments played in the European Integration Movement. In so doing, this conference will also showcase findings which can contribute to the unification of Cold War and European Integration historiographies.

  What kind of development for “the post-crisis city”?

  Des grandes villes dans le monde ont connu des épisodes traumatiques de fortesampleurs, marquant durablement ces espaces et leurs populations. Ces événements, parfois sources de transformations majeures des zones touchées, peuvent également révéler ou se faire le relais de mécanismes de crise plus profonds. À travers quatre axes de discussion (morphologie et composition des nouveaux tissus urbains, fabrication de marges sociospatiales, moteurs et pratiques du développement économique, citadinité et pratiques urabines), le colloque propose d'aborder les conséquences de ces périodes traumatiques sur les dynamiques urbaines, en interrogeant le rôle de la crise et son importance entant que facteur de causalité des évolutions récentes qui marquent ces villes.

  The aim of this workshop is to contribute to the discussion about the complex and multi-faceted interactions engendered in the translation of knowledge between cultures across space and time, as well as the aspects inevitably involved in the process of both its transmission and reception. The contributions address the translation of concepts, also examining the lexical changes initiated by the influx of new or foreign knowledge, and that of practices, i.e. concrete examples to be found in the process of translating knowledge, which in turn entails its interpretation and adaptation.

  Visions and Experiences of Urban Change in the Second World

  This conference examines socialist cities at their points of entry or exit from the socialist project. The theme of transition into and out of socialism and the (un-)making of socialist cities serves as entry points into broader discussions about the specificity of urban change in the Second World and its relationship to similar currents in the global North and South. The conference examines the content of the socialist city – its “ins and outs” – from power grids and housing stocks to museums and places of worship at these points of transition.

En repensant les mécanismes de crédit, les processus d’endettement ou les nouveaux enjeux de la question salariale, de multiples analyses invitent à réfléchir aux formes de légitimation ou de rejet des inégalités dans une société capitaliste. Si les États-Unis constituent le cœur de notre réflexion, des approches comparées seront régulièrement abordées. Ouvert à tous, ce séminaire mensuel s’articulera autour de lectures et de présentations de travaux en cours.

Il s’agira donc de mettre à profit le caractère pluridisciplinaire pour mener un questionnement plus global sur la place de la présidence Obama dans l’histoire politique longue.
