Revue Inter-lignes, numéro 36
La culture palestinienne est marquée par le lien étroit avec les notions de mémoire / mémoires et de transmission. Ces mémoires s’expriment à travers une pluralité de récits, de pratiques et de formes d’expression (qu’elles soient artistiques, patrimoniales, linguistiques ou encore sociales). Elles se matérialisent dans des traces visibles et invisibles (objets, archives photographiques, récits oraux, chants traditionnels, pratiques artisanales) mais aussi dans les œuvres contemporaines qui réinterprètent et contribuent à perpétuer ces héritages.

British Travel Writing and Imperial Rivalry in Europe and the Near East, 1783–1914
This conference aims to interrogate some of these British visions of rival empires in narrations published between 1783 and 1914. It would be interesting to analyse the practice of imagined colonialism, that is, how the British travellers cast a domineering gaze upon their imperial rivals when travelling in lands that were not colonies of the British crown.

Musical and Artistic Circulations between Italy and Jerusalem (16th–21st c.)
This conference re-examines four centuries of musical and artistic exchange between Italy and Jerusalem. It asks how sound, performance and visual practice have shaped social space, identity and cultural diplomacy at this East–West crossroads, inviting scholars, practitioners and community actors to present new research on archives, networks and hybrid repertoires from the sixteenth to the twenty-first century.

Le très grand développement d’internet a augmenté le nombre de ses utilisateurs dans le monde oriental et méditerranéen au cours de ces dernières années, et doit à nos yeux s’accompagner de recherches approfondies dans les domaines de la traduction, du patrimoine, des pratiques pédagogiques et scientifiques et des humanités numériques. Cela implique à la fois des recherches techniques en informatique et en sciences de l’information appliquées aux langues et aux cultures et à leur enseignement-apprentissage dans les pays arabes, mais également une réflexion analytique et critique sur le patrimoine méditerranéen et oriental, notamment arabe, ses textes et discours et leur appréciation par les récépteurs des différentes langues-cultures. Il s’agit là d’un domaine de recherche relativement nouveau en ce qui concerne les langues et les cultures, et d’un important défi à relever.

Attractiveness and mobility networks: seducing, welcoming and integrating
As part of the study day "Attractiveness and Mobility Networks," PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and scholars are invited to explore the dynamics of attractiveness in individual and collective mobilities, from the Bronze Age to the modern era. The event focuses on the legal, political, and social mechanisms implemented to attract, welcome, and integrate individuals into networks. It also examines the formal and informal circulation of information, as well as the processes of community clustering. Particular attention will be given to both the successes and failures of these mechanisms of attractiveness.

L’objet du programme PROFIL (procès filmés) de cette troisième rencontre est de questionner l’élaboration de la preuve par l’image, et principalement par la vidéo, dans différents contextes d’enquêtes et de documentation (judiciaires, mémoriaux ou scientifiques) propres à des conflits armés (depuis les crimes commis en Bosnie-Herzégovine ou au Rwanda dans les années 90 jusqu’aux derniers crimes de guerre commis en Syrie et en Ukraine) mais aussi à des actes de terrorisme ou des violences policières. Cette approche pluridisciplinaire permettra de diversifier les regards sur les expériences historiques et/ou judiciaires, sur les pratiques passées et/ou actuelles à partir d’ analyses d’universitaires ou de professionnels du droit.

Philosophy and the National Question
Taking as its starting point the idea of “philosophical nationalism” proposed by Jacques Derrida, this seminar aims to question the way in which different national and nationalist discourses have accompanied both the construction of modern philosophical historiography and the development of comparative or intercultural philosophy. The division of the world into “philosophical nations” still constitutes today the starting point of any comparative effort and leads to making the “dialogue between traditions” a discourse tending to legitimize national ideologies.

Implosion des empires et frontières
1914-2024
Le XXe siècle a vu l’écroulement brutal de trois empires dont les signes de faiblesse étaient cependant de plus en plus évidents : l'empire austro-hongrois, l'empire ottoman puis l'URSS. La première guerre mondiale a été fatale au camp des vaincus parmi lesquels se trouvaient les deux premiers. Ces opérations de dislocation, les deux premières datant d’un siècle, la troisième plus récente, ont laissé derrière elles des bombes à retardement dont certaines ont contribué au désordre international, voire aux guerres d’aujourd’hui. Le retour des guerres balkaniques, l’agression russe contre l’Ukraine et la Géorgie, le conflit du Haut Karabakh, la question palestinienne et la guerre à Gaza ont leurs racines dans la façon dont ont été tracées « des lignes dans le sable » lors de l’implosion des empires. Comprendre les motivations des politiques qui ont démantelé les empires et envisager les autres scénarios qui auraient été possibles permettrait-il d’apaiser les conflits potentiels ou actifs d’aujourd’hui ?

Artistic Censorship and the Creation of Israel (1948-1967)
This article discusses the artistic censorship of German and Germany in Israel between 1948-1967. During these years, with various fluctuations, the Israeli Film and Theatre Review Board, the agency in charge of artistic censorship, actively censored films, plays and concerts in German. Relying on previously undiscussed archival data, the article tracks the contours of this censorship, from its adoption upon the establishment of the state, to its eventual demise after full diplomatic relations were established between Israel and West Germany.

Music in the Middle East after the digital revolution
Journal “Regards”
This issue of the journal Regards (Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth) proposes to investigate the dynamics of musical production and forms of dissemination in the contemporary Near East, particularly through the do it yourself practices that have emerged with the advent of home studios and low-cost listening platforms. The challenge of such a study is thus to confront the different aesthetics of today's music, blending diverse intellectual and cultural heritages, mobilizing the affects of nostalgia and those linked to the historical realities shared by the region's inhabitants. The question of understanding the articulation of musical dynamics with social, political and state boundaries and different contexts of conflict will be explored.

14th International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East
The International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East has been organised since 1998 by the scientific community of scholars working on and in the Near East. It is an exceptional forum for dialogue and scientific exchanges between all colleagues involved in the study of the Ancient Near East. After twelve years, the ICAANE comes back to France to the city of lights Lyon. From June 2 to 7 2025, the fourteenth International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East will take place in Lyon. It is organised by the Université Lumière Lyon 2 and the Maison de l’Orient et de la Méditerranée.

Mobilités, transferts et circulations : le triptyque formé par ces termes place la réflexion que les Journées d'étude des doctorants du CIHAM 2024 aspirent mener dans une perspective dynamique – dynamique des structures politiques et administratives, dynamique des mobilités humaines et des infrastructures qu’elles nécessitent, dynamique des motifs et des modèles littéraires qui se diffusent au sein d’aires culturelles et linguistiques connectées. Ces journées d'étude souhaitent susciter une réflexion transdisciplinaire, entre littérature, histoire et archéologie ; à la croisée des mondes médiévaux chrétiens et musulmans, conformément aux intérêts fondateurs du laboratoire du CIHAM – UMR 5648.

Du Grand Tour à l’Orient-Express : curiosité, exploration, sociabilité
Au cours de ce colloque, nous nous proposons d’étudier la manière dont les voyageurs sillonnant les Balkans et la Méditerranée orientale, entre le Grand Tour en Orient et l’épopée de l’Orient-Express, ont pu appréhender ces pays, leurs habitants et leurs passés. Nous nous donnons pour but d’explorer les représentations sociales des voyageurs, mais aussi celles des populations visitées. Sans se limiter à reproduire les schémas classiques de compréhension de ces discours, redevables à Edward Saïd, il s’agira d’historiciser, de contextualiser et de décliner ces perceptions ambivalentes en fonction des considérations géopolitiques, des orientations idéologiques, mais aussi des affinités personnelles de ceux qui ont produit ces discours. En parallèle, nous aimerions étudier ces lieux de sociabilité que sont les navires ou et des trains, à l’instar de l’Orient-Express et de son successeur, le Simplon-Orient-Express, ainsi que son prolongement asiatique conduisant en Iraq et en Égypte, le Taurus-Express.

Quel impact des plateformes numériques ?
Le XXIe forum du Réseau transméditerranéen de recherche en communication (RTRC) entend questionner une nouvelle fois la dialectique entre l’espoir de communication transméditerranéenne et la réalité des incommunications, sans occulter l’épée de Damoclès que représentent aujourd’hui les risques réels de l’acommunication. Le RTRC interroge ces concepts au prisme d’un acteur montant et tendanciellement hégémonique de nos pratiques communicationnelles : les plateformes numériques. Les propositions sélectionnées feront l'objet d'une valorisation post-colloque dans la perspective de la publication d’un ouvrage collectif.

The study of empires is a dynamic field; we are constantly revising our knowledge of empires, inspired by newly discovered sources as well as new approaches. The context of historical writing itself significantly influences our perception of imperial history. Post-imperial realities also force us to rethink the empire. This special issue of Diacronie. Studi di storia contemporanea invites contributions that present perspectives on how we remember and study the empires that collapsed at the end of the First World War.

Development, Modernization and Europeanization from the 19th to the 21st century
As historical narratives on international politics of development and modernization are now consolidate, a genuinely European perspective, that considers the multiplicity of governmental and non-governmental actors, still seems to be missing. This conference aims to understand to what extent a politically integrated Europe might be understood as the result of practices of development policies within Europe and its (semi-)colonial periphery during the past two centuries.
