The theme of the conference is grounded in the transformative learning paradigm applied to education for sustainable development (ESD). ESD is a central element in promoting “enlightened citizenship” for all students, but also in training future professionals who will integrate a sustainable development approach into their work, regardless of the sector. This call for contributions is based on UNESCO’s 2030 Roadmap for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), published in 2020 and the 2022 Berlin Declaration, which places transformative ESD at its core.

Abundance or Sufficiency?

The Left’s Diverging Paths in the Green Transition

Since the 1970s, environmental constraints, shifting social values, and the crisis of post-war productivism have profoundly challenged the Western left. Once grounded in beliefs in scientific progress, technological innovations, and rising material prosperity, left-wing movements have increasingly been forced to confront planetary limits, rising inequality, and growing public ambivalence toward technoscience. These tensions have crystallised in contemporary debates on the Green Transition, where competing visions of abundance (growth-oriented technological optimism) and sufficiency (degrowth, sobriété, post-productivism) shape political and social antagonisms.

Le colloque souhaite interroger les tensions que celles-ci se manifestent à bas-bruit ou de manière ostensible dans les médias et le journalisme mis à l’épreuve, renforcés ou reconfigurés dans leurs normes, leurs pratiques et leurs discours. En complément des travaux qui s’intéressent aux crises dans l’analyse des médias et du journalisme, ce colloque s’intéresse aux moments sociaux où les tensions s’exacerbent, qu’elles soient liées à une conflictualité inhérente à la crise transposée dans le champ médiatique, ou mises en lumière par des situations d’urgence et de forte intensité informationnelle, qui révèlent des tensions profondes et diffuses. Approcher ces phénomènes à partir des tensions permet d’analyser les normes, les contraintes et les rapports de pouvoir.

Neutralité et non-engagement à l’épreuve des guerres civiles et des révolutions à l’époque moderne (XVIe-XVIIIe siècle)

À des périodes où la neutralité, au sens diplomatique, est suspecte et où l’engagement des individus est perçu comme un gage de l’adhésion des populations à un parti ou à un nouvel ordre (socio)politique, est-il réellement possible de se tenir volontairement à l’écart ? Ou bien la neutralité procède-t-elle davantage d’une identification contrainte, relevant d’un discours accusatoire, d’une stigmatisation que les acteurs entreprennent éventuellement de retourner en leur faveur ? En d’autres termes, peut-on choisir de ne pas choisir ? Ces questions seront appréhendées dans un cadre géographique et chronologique large, propice aux comparaisons : l’Europe moderne et ses colonies dans une longue durée, du XVI^e siècle à « l ’Âge des révolutions atlantiques ».

This seminar examines the history and sociology of antiracism—or antiracisms—in the Atlantic region since the end of the 18th century. We will be looking at how what we now call “racism” has been thought about and combated over the long term. Few studies are explicitly devoted to antiracism. We will, therefore, propose a genealogy of antiracist strategies. This seminar is committed to articulating a transdisciplinary and transnational perspective on the dynamics of anti-racist thought and practice.

Le XIXe siècle est une période profondément marquée par les violences. Elles sont des pratiques concrètes, qui s’expriment différemment en fonction des acteurs et des cadres et espaces dans lesquels elles s’exercent. Certaines d’entre elles sont spectaculaires, d’autres relèvent du symbolique, du banal ou de la domination silencieuse. Aussi, elles s’inscrivent dans un imaginaire du permis et du non permis, de la norme et de la transgression, en même temps qu’elles participent à le produire. De ce fait, il n’est pas étonnant que le XIXe siècle se distingue par un renouvellement de la réflexion à leur propos, en particulier au sujet de leur légitimité et de leur acceptabilité.

The starting point for this conference is the observation that the ecological transition in Germany, which one might have thought would be easier or at least more harmonious than in other countries due to the importance that environmental issues have had in German culture, society, and politics from very early on, is in fact encountering numerous obstacles and is even being called into question. This is evidenced, among other things, by the setbacks which the energy transition encounters and by the success of the party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) despite—or perhaps because of—its stance in favour of climate change denial.

Moins abordés par l’historiographie que les refuges religieux, les retours d’exil ont pourtant joué un rôle important dans le façonnage des identités confessionnelles entre le XVI^e et le XVIII^e siècle. Ce colloque se propose de réfléchir à cette « zone grise » historiographique en interrogeant les apports de l’expérience de l’exil aux religions par le retour dans leur territoire d’origine d’individus ou de groupes réfugiés (revenants ou returnees), les modalités de ces retours (individuels, collectifs, clandestins, officiels, ...) et leurs effets sociaux politiques et culturels (concorde, réconciliation ou renforcement de la distinction confessionnelle et du zèle religieux, ...).

We are pleased to share with you the Call for Paper for a session scheduled for the upcoming 2026 Conference of the European Association for Urban History (EAUH) on the theme 'City Networks in Europe and beyond', to be held in Barcelona in September 3-6, entitled: Making the city differently: urban struggles, circulations and networks after 1945. This session will look at the circulation and transfer of critical discourses, as well as activist practices that challenge the dominant ways of making cities after 1945. From a transnational perspective, the aim is to trace the networks, interrelations and genealogies of critical and alternative urbanism in contemporary Europe and beyond.
