Roland Barthes journal issue 4
Pour sa quatrième livraison, la revue Roland Barthes se propose d’interroger le rapport intense et structurant que l’œuvre barthésienne entretient à l’égard de l’avenir. Il s’agira, ainsi, de s’attacher aux conditions, aux manifestations et aux enjeux d’un certain « souci de l’avenir » à l’œuvre chez l’essayiste.

« Le voyage de Barrès, après ceux de Chateaubriand, de Lamartine, de Gautier, de Gérard de Nerval, aura été le dernier des voyages romantiques d’Orient, des voyages vers l’Orient romantique. Là encore 1914 marque la grande coupure. Cet Orient n’existe plus. » (Albert Thibaudet) La journée se propose d’interroger dans quelle mesure la Grande Guerre modifie la perception et l’écriture de l’Orient chez Barrès. Pour éclairer la genèse d’Une enquête aux pays du Levant, récit né du voyage de 1914 et publié en 1923, on confrontera l’exemple de Barrès aux cas d’écrivains et de savants orientalistes, que ces derniers soient les contemporains ou les informateurs du voyageur.

Le colloque entend intensifier le dialogue entre chercheurs français et allemands spécialistes de la Première Guerre mondiale et des cultures mémorielles, tant en littérature qu'en art, qui en sont issues. Les spécialistes des faits historiques, littéraires, culturels et sociaux s'intéresseront ainsi, sous l'angle d'une approche comparée, à l'année 1917 et aux initiatives de paix qui s'y déployèrent. Ce faisant, il s'agira de remplacer le manichéisme d'une historiographie nationale par une approche franco-allemande au coeur de laquelle l'aspiration à une sortie de guerre non corrélée à une victoire militaire sera observée dans toute sa dimension historique. Parallèlement, il s'agit, au cours d'une année commémorative 2017, de déplacer le regard vers la thématique des sorties de guerre conçue sous un angle interdisciplinaire convoquant les différentes disciplines des sciences humaines et sociales partageant une même historicité à croiser leurs approches au profit de l'étude d'un phénomène pluridimensionnel.

Global art and cultural periodicals
La première journée d’études, consacrée à la période de l'après-seconde guerre mondiale ainsi qu’aux espaces ou territoires postcoloniaux, s'est déroulée le 14 novembre 2016. Cette seconde journée, « Les revues dans le monde : entre-deux-guerres », traite de l'avènement au sein des territoires non-occidentaux d'une internationale critique, caractérisée par une mise en tension entre désir d'émancipation, lutte contre l'impérialisme et spécificité culturelle.

5th symposium of art history at the 11th arrondissement townhall
Au terme d'une longue histoire urbaine dominée par l'architecture ecclésiastique, on trouve ce paradoxe : le sacré est encore plus présent dans la ville occidentale du début du XXIe siècle qu'il ne l'était à l'aube de la Révolution. Le Ve symposium de la mairie du XIe explorera en deux temps l'émergence historique de ce réseau très dense de la sacralisation urbaine. La matinée sera consacrée au sacré dans la ville royale et révolutionnaire, l'après-midi au sacré dans la ville industrielle et contemporaine. Il s'agira de confronter les points de vue d'historiens de la ville, de l'architecture et de l'art dans une suite de présentations courtes alternant avec la parole du public.

25th Modern Greek Studies Conference of French-speaking universities
The biennial Congress of French-speaking Modern Greek Studies scholars will take place from October 12th to October 14th, 2017 in Aix-en-Provence. Its aim is to bring together researchers from every domain of the humanities and social sciences. The issue at the heart of this 15th Congress is the historical progress of certain areas of study towards the status of full-fledged disciplines of the humanities and social sciences in Greece from the moment of the establishment of the Greek state (1830) and within a context allowing the study of this phenomenon in both its regional and its international dimensions.
The works of the Congress will be organized around the following themes:
1. The emergence, institutionalization, reproduction and diffusion of disciplinary bodies of knowledge.
2. The way each discipline positions itself with relation to other fields of knowledge and implements its theoretical foundations
3. The processes of establishing legitimacy for the new disciplines and for the groups framing them
4. Disciplinarization and the field of Modern Greek Studies
Abstracts must be submitted before February 28th, 2017, in either French or English.

History Review of the technical modernity in France (the twentieth century to the present)
Critical thinking of modernity has never been more relevant. She also has a history, especially since the late eighteenth century. Its players may have been either movements (1810 Luddites to the Surrealists in the late 1950s, and other movements today) or relatively isolated thinkers, and more involved in writing (sometimes the pamphlet) than in transformative political action. The proposed program focuses on this second category, most misunderstood, but also addresses the first category – in both cases over a period extending from the early twentieth century to today. It puts them into perspective with some excitement speeches of the dominant technical modernity that often they criticize, especially in the period of the 1930s and that of the years 1960-1980.

Le numéro 9 de Continents Manuscrits proposera – à l'aide des outils fournis par la critique génétique (carnets et journaux de fondateurs, correspondance, manifestes, archives des revues, etc.), de l'ethnogénétique et de la sociologie de la culture – une analyse des conditions de l'émergence, du fonctionnement et de la disparition des revues culturelles et littéraires en contexte colonial et postcolonial.

In this conference, we will examine different occurrences of lying in Anglophone literature, films and comics, but also in the media or the political life of Anglophone countries. We will analyse the various intentions and strategies, as well as the artistic interest and pertinence of the phenomenon. We will consider to what extent lying occurs differently in different contexts, and why this should be so, whether certain historical periods, genres, geographical, social, political or personal contexts are more favourable to lying.

Voices, acoustics and aural behaviours in France in the second half of the 20th century
L’objet du colloque est la voix dite « parlée » sur les scènes françaises de l’immédiate après-guerre à la fin des années 1990. Ce que devient cette voix dans des contextes culturels et socio-politiques inédits, marqués par la montée du visuel et l’accumulation des soupçons envers le langage et envers la langue, comment elle se transforme et s'inscrit dans les sons et les images des spectacles, comment elle parvient à se rendre audible et interroge une acoustique qui a tendance à l’oublier.

This workshop aims to provide an opportunity for an explicitly international audience of scholars to reflect on the societal impact of Neo-Thomism, especially in the domains of law and socio-economic thinking. This is a topic deserving a multifaceted and in-depth analysis, using a broad, international comparative perspective and combining the results of very different fields of historical research: history of science, church and religion, social and political history, etc.

L’atelier fait de la base de données sur les manifestes artistiques et littéraires Manart le point de départ d’un questionnement sur les spécificités du manifeste et les enjeux de son traitement à l’ère des humanités numériques. Par le biais de cinq séances de travail, l’atelier se propose un objectif double : d’une part d’enrichir la connaissance critique sur le manifeste, en le réinscrivant tout d’abord dans les recherches sur l’engagement des artistes et écrivains, et sur les discours produits pour dire cet engagement et les programmes associés ; d’autre part, les ateliers se proposent d’accompagner une réflexion méthodologique sur l’utilisation du numérique pour le traitement d’un corpus patrimonial protéiforme.

Populisms in Central and Eastern Europe in the 20th Century
Since the 1990s, several political movements qualified as “populist” have emerged in Central and Eastern Europe, drawing the attention of political scientists. If we want to understand why these movements exercise such attraction and why they are so relentless in this space, it is necessary to cross the study of current politics with the analysis of long term developments.
