Animal Behaviour and Environments: Ecological Perspectives from Antiquity to the Present
This conference aims, through a resolutely interdisciplinary approach, to explore the relations between animals and their environments. Bringing together scholars in ancient and medieval philology, the history of zoological knowledge, and contemporary ecological sciences, the event seeks to examine how living beings interact with their surroundings—and how these interactions have been conceptualised, described, and modelled from Antiquity to the present. Two main thematic axes will structure the discussion: 1. Animals and Environments: Ancient and Modern Ecologies; 2. Animal Ecological Awareness: Perception, Umwelt, and Narrative Models

This symposium will concentrate on the creation, transmission and movements of prehistoric collections –including natural history specimens, human remains, and artefacts–, from the colonial era to the present day. Particular emphasis will be placed on collections from Southeast Asia, however, case studies drawn from other historical and geographical contexts will also be represented.

Nature is often aberrant, or at least so disconcerting that it would be a form of ignorance not to marvel at it. The nature of animals, like that of plants, « overflows on all sides »(Theophrastus). This call for papers is addressed to all those—historians of science, historians of texts, biologists—who are interested in what Aristotle described as « the non-ordinary order of nature, » in its most disconcerting manifestations. Presentations may focus on motifs of natural strangeness, whether in experience or history, addressing anatomical, physiological, or behavioral aspects, as well as fields such as communication, technical skills, or what is vaguely referred to as the « animal sixth sense. »

Archives of Archaeology: History, Plurality, and New Perspectives
Depuis plus d’une vingtaine d’années, les archives de l’archéologie suscitent l’intérêt d’historiens et d'archéologues mais aussi d’archivistes et de conservateurs. L’exploitation de ces sources, qui ne se limitent pas aux seuls documents de terrain, s’est désormais imposée pour écrire l’histoire de la discipline, de ses acteurs et de ses multiples facettes socio-politiques et culturelles. La journée d’étude est consacrée à la présentation de nouveaux regards et usages des archives de l'archéologie, appréhendées dans leur plus large définition, comme tremplin d’une histoire renouvelée, sociale et politique, de l’archéologie.

Politisations des archéologies : fouilles, conflits et mémoires
En nous montrant le site de Sobibor, où les nazis implantèrent un camp d’extermination avant de tenter d’en effacer les traces, le film « Sheol » d’Arnaud Sauli nous le rappelle : contemporainement ou des décennies plus tard, les restes matériels des activités humaines se retrouvent fréquemment au cœur d’enjeux et conflits juridiques, politiques ou encore moraux. Les savoirs « archéologiques », relatifs à ces restes matériels, jouent dès lors un rôle essentiel dans ces conflits, et qu’il s’agisse des savoirs développés scientifiquement que ceux possédés par tout un chacun. Dans ce séminaire, deux historiens des sciences et une ethnologue emploieront trois cas pour décliner les manières dont les rapports se nouent entre les enjeux du présent et ces restes matériels d’activités passées : qu’il s’agisse d’activités anciennes ou récentes, belliqueuses ou quotidiennes, et relatives aux constructions nationales en des contextes proches ou lointains, étatiques ou infra-étatiques (Suisse, Palestine et Israël, Pays Basque et Espagne).

Initiation à la musique grecque antique
Ce séminaire de recherche a pour objectif de présenter l’ensemble des sources disponibles pour l’étude de la musique de l’Antiquité gréco-romaine, et les outils et méthodes pour les étudier. Ce domaine est en effet un vaste terrain dont il convient de mesurer l’étendue. Seront donc abordés, après une présentation de l’histoire de la recherche en musique antique depuis la Renaissance, les sources littéraires et documentaires, les sources iconographiques, les traités musicaux, les partitions, la vie musicale de l’Antiquité, la réception de la musique antique au Moyen Âge et les méthodes nouvelles d’analyse des données.

Chaque année, le congrès national des sociétés historiques et scientifiques, lieu de rencontre et d’échange unique dans le paysage de la recherche française, rassemble environ cinq cents participants parmi lesquels des universitaires issus de très nombreuses disciplines : histoire, géographie, sciences, ethnologie, anthropologie, préhistoire et protohistoire, archéologie, philologie, histoire de l’art, environnement, etc. Il accueille également des jeunes chercheurs (dont c’est parfois la première intervention publique) et des érudits locaux.

Ces troisièmes journée d’étude des Jeunes chercheurs du GIS Patrimoines militaires sont consacrées à l’exploration des modifications apportées sur le temps long à l’architecture militaire, afin de l’adapter aux besoins évolutifs de l’armée et des sociétés (en matière de défense, d’habitat…). En corolaire, la journée s’attachera également à envisager les diverses manières de valoriser un patrimoine qui résulte d’une succession d’interventions dont souvent la dernière tend à effacer par sa visibilité immédiate celles qui l’ont précédées.
