Les architectes des bâtiments civils et palais nationaux, des monuments historiques et des bâtiments de France
Cette journée d’étude s’intéressera aux architectes au service de l’État au XXe siècle – architectes des bâtiments civils et palais nationaux, des monuments historiques et des bâtiments de France –, de la création du corps des architectes des monuments historiques en 1892, à l’extinction de celui des architectes des bâtiments civils et palais nationaux en 1991, étudiés sous trois approches : institutionnelle, prosopographique et biographique.

Cette journée d’étude s’inscrit dans la continuité des recherches féministes sur l’histoire de l’architecture et de l’espace, qui, depuis la deuxième partie du XXe siècle, interrogent les effets du patriarcat sur la production et les récits architecturaux. Elle vise à prolonger ces travaux en s’intéressant au contexte français du long XIXe siècle (1789-1914). L’objectif est de cartographier les discours féminins et féministes sur l’environnement construit diffusés dans la presse et l’édition en France. Cette approche entend révéler les réseaux, les supports et les thématiques portés par les autrices, tout en replaçant la France dans un cadre de réflexion transnational. Nous souhaitons accueillir des propositions émanant d’horizons disciplinaires variés, au-delà du champ de l’architecture.

The call for papers is now open for the new edition of the Intersections series, dedicated to the cross-disciplinary nature of urban history and the dialogue between disciplines, methods and perspectives of study. The 2026 seminar will focus on the city as seen by archaeologists: not only the ancient or medieval city, but all forms and temporalities of the urban dimension — from abandonment to processes of transformation, from continuities to industrial and contemporary landscapes.

Crossing urban Planning cultures in time of conflict and reconciliation
Views on continental Europe, 1937-1945. Session 69 – EAUH 2026
The aim of this approach is to consider how national urban planning traditions are shaped by conflict-related constraints during periods of escalation towards war and of occupation. National historiographies have long considered this period as a parenthesis in the circulation of ideas and models. In contrast to this approach, the perspective of the session involves an in-depth investigation of urban planning theories on a European scale, as well as an analysis of personal and institutional exchanges, technical transfers and expertises before and during World War II.

Session 71 - EAUH 2026
We are pleased to share with you the Call for Paper for a session scheduled for the upcoming 2026 Conference of the European Association for Urban History (EAUH) on the theme 'City Networks in Europe and beyond', to be held in Barcelona in September 3-6, entitled: Making the city differently: urban struggles, circulations and networks after 1945. This session will look at the circulation and transfer of critical discourses, as well as activist practices that challenge the dominant ways of making cities after 1945. From a transnational perspective, the aim is to trace the networks, interrelations and genealogies of critical and alternative urbanism in contemporary Europe and beyond.

Courtyards and patios in the Mediterranean
The courtyard or patio house, based on the intimate appropriation of a fragment of sky at the heart of the domestic space, is a major archetype of human habitation. Deeply rooted in Mediterranean traditions, it surprises with its longevity and its ability to generate unique expressions, shaped by the diversity of physical and cultural contexts. This archetype, which has spanned the centuries, from the ancient world to contemporary projects, continues to inspire architects, thinkers, and creators, and has regained particular relevance in light of the challenges of the 21st century, as contemporary issues invite us to rethink modes of dwelling. To explore these dimensions, the conference adopts a multidisciplinary approach structured around four cross-cutting themes. It is aimed at a diverse range of profiles—architects, historians, anthropologists, sociologists, archaeologists, artists, writers, climatologists, etc.—drawing on scientific contributions, feedback from architects, and artistic expressions.

The 13th international conference of the the Society for Medieval, Modern and Contemporary Archaeology aims to examine the contributions of an archaeological approach to vernacular architecture in both rural and urban settings. The time frame covers the 15th to early 20th centuries, in a geographical area corresponding to France and its overseas “départements” and “régions”, as well as Europe more broadly.

An international conference will be held at the Royal Museum of Mariemont from 19 to 21 March 2026 in the framework of the exhibition Mary of Hungary. Art & Power in the Renaissance. The scientific meeting will bring together historians, art and architecture historians, archaeologists and specialists in literature into an interdisciplinary dialogue about curial residences in the countryside, their places in their territories, their ornamentations, the festive life organized, but also the diplomatic dealings and policies which unfolded there.

Réactualisation des matériaux et savoir-faire préindustriels
Perspectives historiques
Faced with today's environmental and climatic challenges, architectural production needs to embrace a shift towards frugality, in particular through the use of bio- and geo-sourced materials. In this respect, pre-industrial knowledge and know-how can be particularly inspiring. The aim of this study day is to understand how to design, build and rehabilitate using ancient techniques. The aim is to examine gestures and know-how in relation to so-called traditional building materials. This one-day event will call on researchers to shed scientific light on these essential questions, so as to avoid falling into the irenic trap of a return to our roots, without misrepresenting them or greenwashing them. Adopting a historical perspective could be a way of avoiding this pitfall, contextualizing it and initiating a debate with the practitioners and future practitioners of tomorrow's architecture. This study day is aimed at students, teachers, researchers and anyone interested in learning more about these subjects. The aim is to develop an accurate awareness of materials and know-how.

La Méditerranée des architectes et le monde (XVIII-XXe siècle)
Ce colloque porte sur le thème de l’exil des architectes dans le pourtour de la Méditerranée et au-delà, depuis le milieu du XVIIIe siècle jusqu’aux décennies récentes. L’exil à l’époque contemporaine, traversée par de nombreux conflits et changements politiques, est riche de récits, bien documenté concernant la trajectoire contrainte des artistes, écrivains, cinéastes et intellectuels, mais il ne l’est que partiellement sur les architectes, alors que leur circulation migratoire entre continents s’est accentuée. L’exil pendant la période moderne reste également à explorer.

Monasteries and religious communities in the Alps from the Middle Ages to the present day
History, landscape, architecture and enhancement of cultural heritage
Volume 31/2026 of Histoire des Alpes – Storia delle Alpi – Geschichte der Alpen wishes to dedicate its Dossier to the theme of monasteries and religious communities in the Alpine region. While the history of regular communities was largely investigated from the second half of the 19th century until the first years of the 20th century, in particular thanks to the impetus of members of the clergy who devoted themselves to collecting, transcribing and translating archives, as well as publishing monographs, there has been a revival of interest in this subject over the last few decades in the Alps and Pre-Alps, driven in particular by archaeologists, by the diversification of issues concerning the religious world and, locally, by the desire of the public authorities to broaden the range of the tourism offer by promoting local heritage.
