Cette journée sera consacrée à un examen sociologique du thème, que ce soit aussi bien du point de vue des carrières et des mécanismes associés à leur déroulement, que celui de la place des femmes sur les chantiers archéologiques.

Post-doctoral prize: research into the arts and cultures of the Mediterranean world
Marc de Montalembert Foundation / École du Louvre
The Marc de Montalembert Foundation and the École du Louvre have formed a partnership to sponsor the Marc de Montalembert Prize, worth 9,000 euros. The prize will be awarded to support a research project whose anticipated results will constitute an original contribution to the knowledge of the arts of the Mediterranean world from Antiquity to our day. The Foundation will also offer the prize holder the possibility of a residency at its headquarters in Rhodes, Greece.

The call for papers is now open for the new edition of the Intersections series, dedicated to the cross-disciplinary nature of urban history and the dialogue between disciplines, methods and perspectives of study. The 2026 seminar will focus on the city as seen by archaeologists: not only the ancient or medieval city, but all forms and temporalities of the urban dimension — from abandonment to processes of transformation, from continuities to industrial and contemporary landscapes.

La pierre, matière à bâtir l'Histoire
Archéologie de la construction
Ce séminaire de recherche ouvert à tous et toutes propose un tour d’horizon du matériau pierre dans la construction de son extraction à sa mise en œuvre dans l’Ouest de la France. Seront abordées durant cette journée les questions de l’extraction de la matière première depuis les carrières littorales et souterraines avec les témoignages d’anciens des carrières et de spécialistes de l’inventaire. Ensuite se sont les techniques de tailles et de gravures qui sont traitées sur la longue durée, entre la fin de l’Antiquité et l’époque contemporaine, jusqu’à l’emploi de ces pierres dans les architectures urbaines et portuaires.

En 2025, l’association AGER organise sa première journée d’actualités de la recherche portant sur l’archéologie et l’histoire rurale de la Gaule romaine. L’association souhaite tenir, lors des années impaires, une journée d’actualités à même de renforcer les liens qui unissent la communauté des chercheurs œuvrant sur ce thème. Ce nouveau format de rencontre sera ainsi l’occasion de présenter des travaux de recherche consacrés aux thématiques portées par l’association.

Comment repenser l’Italie antique ?
Constructions historiographiques et décloisonnement méthodologique
Ce colloque s’inscrit dans une démarche méthodologique très actuelle dans les recherches sur l’Italie ancienne. En effet, traditionnellement, les études sur l’Italie antique sont marquées par un important cloisonnement des thématiques de recherche et des disciplines, issues de traditions académiques ancrées dans le temps. L’étruscologie, l’étude de la Rome républicaine, celle du monde magno-grec et celle des sociétés dites « pré-romaines » forment ainsi des domaines d’étude généralement distincts, qui ne communiquent et ne se nourrissent que trop peu. De même, l’histoire de l’art, l’archéologie, l’épigraphie et la linguistique restent trop souvent les disciplines de quelques spécialistes, qui gagneraient à dialoguer davantage.
Par ailleurs, l’Italie dite « pré-romaine » a longtemps été abordée dans la perspective des études sur les deux civilisations classiques que sont la République romaine et le monde grec colonial, avec un point de vue extérieur et un regard souvent essentialisant. Le colloque s’inscrit dans la démarche scientifique qui amène à repenser les études des sociétés de l’Italie antique, dans une perspective de décloisonnement disciplinaire et méthodologique.
Il impliquera des chercheur.se.s de renommée internationale et des doctorant.e.s ou jeunes docteur.e.s spécialistes des peuples italiques.

In recent years, there has been a resurgence of Islamic studies in Portuguese lands. Archaeological campaigns and documentation-based research have brought to light valueable information about the Andalusian occupation in this area and the Muslim permanence under Christian rule, both as slaves and as mouros forros. The aim of this monographic issue is to serve as a compilation and new impetus for this research into the Muslim presence in Portuguese lands, both under the sphere of Andalusian influence (Garb al-Andalus) and under Christian rule (Portugal).

Ces journées s’intéressent tout particulièrement à la dimension sociologique des professions de l’archéologie, à la place des sociabilités et aux stratégies d’adaptation des femmes ou de reconnaissance de leur rôle dans les travaux archéologiques depuis les origines de la discipline, au XIXe siècle, jusqu’à aujourd’hui à travers des témoignages directs et des études biographiques ou monographiques.

Ce colloque s’attachera à explorer les décors en marbre et en pierre calcaire dans les provinces de Gaule (Narbonnaise, Aquitaine, Lyonnaise, Belgique) et de la Germanie, en tant que manifestations matérielles des identités provinciales. L’objectif est de mettre en lumière les dynamiques de circulation des matériaux, des modèles décoratifs et des artisans au sein de l’Occident romain, et d’interroger les logiques de conception, d’ornementation et d’usage des décors lapidaires dans ces contextes provinciaux.

Courtyards and patios in the Mediterranean
The courtyard or patio house, based on the intimate appropriation of a fragment of sky at the heart of the domestic space, is a major archetype of human habitation. Deeply rooted in Mediterranean traditions, it surprises with its longevity and its ability to generate unique expressions, shaped by the diversity of physical and cultural contexts. This archetype, which has spanned the centuries, from the ancient world to contemporary projects, continues to inspire architects, thinkers, and creators, and has regained particular relevance in light of the challenges of the 21st century, as contemporary issues invite us to rethink modes of dwelling. To explore these dimensions, the conference adopts a multidisciplinary approach structured around four cross-cutting themes. It is aimed at a diverse range of profiles—architects, historians, anthropologists, sociologists, archaeologists, artists, writers, climatologists, etc.—drawing on scientific contributions, feedback from architects, and artistic expressions.

Rome’s conquest of Italy wrecked the existing political environment. This struggle involved Greeks, peoples of Central Italy, Gauls, Etruscans, and shaped the Mediterranean world, giving the historical base on which our own was built. Yet, it remains not fully understood. Through a multidisciplinary analysis integrating archaeological and historical sources, this conference aims to investigate the transformation of power dynamics—military, economic, and social—and their impact on both urban centres and peripheral territories.

Les sociétés anciennes, loin d’être isolées ou déconnectées, étaient liées, à tous points de vue, les unes aux autres dans « un tout petit monde » qu’est celui de la Méditerranée. Elles étaient parcourues par des échanges de nature diverse (économique, politique, social et religieux ou symbolique). Cette journée sera consacrée aux échanges et aux contacts culturels dans le domaine du sacré et des pratiques rituelles et cultuelles collectives ou privées, communautaires ou domestiques. Notre voyage diachronique sur une aire géographique étendue, nous mènera des rives de l’Égypte et de la Phénicie jusqu’en Méditerranée Occidentale, couvrant alors toute l’Antiquité.

An international conference will be held at the Royal Museum of Mariemont from 19 to 21 March 2026 in the framework of the exhibition Mary of Hungary. Art & Power in the Renaissance. The scientific meeting will bring together historians, art and architecture historians, archaeologists and specialists in literature into an interdisciplinary dialogue about curial residences in the countryside, their places in their territories, their ornamentations, the festive life organized, but also the diplomatic dealings and policies which unfolded there.
