Italians in/and the Maghreb: Between Integration and Isolation
This special issue examines the presence of Italians in the Maghreb in relation to broader questions of colonialism, race, decolonization as well as contemporary conversations surrounding migration, diaspora, and postcolonial inclusion and belonging. It aims to illuminate the varying tensions and exchanges between Italy and French North Africa, from large-scale migrations to intellectual dialogues between the two regions.

Scandal in Italian Society (1350-1530): norms, transgressions, and representations
Cahiers d’études italiennes
This thematic issue of Cahiers d’études italiennes aims to examine both the polysemy and social functions of scandal in Italy in the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance (1350-1530), combining approaches from history, literature, art history, political philosophy, and law. Contributions will focus primarily on Italian society, but contributions addressing cases of scandal related to Italy or Italian personalities are also welcome.

Écritures et créativité dans l’Italie contemporaine
L’évolution des technologies numériques et de l’intelligence artificielle générative transforme profondément l’écosystème culturel italien, où les pratiques artistiques et littéraires intègrent de plus en plus des logiques transmédiales, algorithmiques et réticulaires. Cette convergence entre humain, machine et plateformes fait émerger de nouvelles figures comme « l’auteur hybride » et le « lecteur hybride », remettant en question la créativité, l’intentionnalité et la responsabilité dans l’acte artistique. La technologie n’est plus seulement un support, mais un véritable agent qui modifie des catégories fondamentales telles que auteur, œuvre et lecture, ouvrant ainsi des scénarios inédits pour la critique et la production contemporaines.

Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, we aim to restore the diversity of her writing and highlight its place in the Italian literary landscape. Her work anticipated issues that we consider essential today, and she was a complex, protean and unique figure.

Les « Sororités » seront envisagées en tant que phénomène politique et littéraire. Il s’agira d’explorer les formes d’alliances féminines dans les discours, les pratiques sociales, les récits ou les correspondances en Italie dans un contexte de bouleversements politiques et de reconfigurations des rôles genrés. Une attention particulière sera consacrée aux fraternité/sororité politiques dans les Républiques sœurs italiennes (1796-1799), fraternité/sororité militaires et diplomatiques franco-piémontaises lors de l’unification italienne (dans la pensée politique et les représentations).

The 2026 seminar will focus on the city as seen by archaeologists: not only the ancient or medieval city, but all forms and temporalities of the urban dimension — from abandonment to processes of transformation, from continuities to industrial and contemporary landscapes.

Comment repenser l’Italie antique ?
Constructions historiographiques et décloisonnement méthodologique
Ce colloque s’inscrit dans une démarche méthodologique très actuelle dans les recherches sur l’Italie ancienne. En effet, traditionnellement, les études sur l’Italie antique sont marquées par un important cloisonnement des thématiques de recherche et des disciplines, issues de traditions académiques ancrées dans le temps. L’étruscologie, l’étude de la Rome républicaine, celle du monde magno-grec et celle des sociétés dites « pré-romaines » forment ainsi des domaines d’étude généralement distincts, qui ne communiquent et ne se nourrissent que trop peu. De même, l’histoire de l’art, l’archéologie, l’épigraphie et la linguistique restent trop souvent les disciplines de quelques spécialistes, qui gagneraient à dialoguer davantage.
Par ailleurs, l’Italie dite « pré-romaine » a longtemps été abordée dans la perspective des études sur les deux civilisations classiques que sont la République romaine et le monde grec colonial, avec un point de vue extérieur et un regard souvent essentialisant. Le colloque s’inscrit dans la démarche scientifique qui amène à repenser les études des sociétés de l’Italie antique, dans une perspective de décloisonnement disciplinaire et méthodologique.
Il impliquera des chercheur.se.s de renommée internationale et des doctorant.e.s ou jeunes docteur.e.s spécialistes des peuples italiques.

The Winter School “Being Citizen. Exploring the Concepts of Patria, Nation and Europe in the Italian Traditions” (9th-13th February 2026) is a project promoted by the University of Trento in partnership with ENS Lyon and KU Leuven. The school aims to offer a one-week advanced training school focused on the Italian philosophical traditions in the Novacella-Abbey, and is open to thirty master’s or PhD students and early-career researchers in philosophy, history, and literature.

Giovanna Marini (1937-2024) est « la voix chantée » du mouvement populaire italien, mêlant tradition et innovation, car elle ne fut pas seulement une excellente interprète mais aussi une compositrice remarquable. Ce colloque international interdisciplinaire lui rend hommage en explorant les différentes facettes de sa production, son interprétation en spectacle et son travail de transmission. En plus des communications des intervenants universitaires italiens et français, seront présentés des documents filmiques tournés lors d’entretiens ou de spectacles, qui permettront au public d’écouter sa voix.

Power, Society, and Territorial Dynamics in a Changing Italy (cent. 4th BC-1st AD)
Rome’s conquest of Italy wrecked the existing political environment. This struggle involved Greeks, peoples of Central Italy, Gauls, Etruscans, and shaped the Mediterranean world, giving the historical base on which our own was built. Yet, it remains not fully understood. Through a multidisciplinary analysis integrating archaeological and historical sources, this conference aims to investigate the transformation of power dynamics—military, economic, and social—and their impact on both urban centres and peripheral territories.

After the World War II in Italy there was a proliferation of periodical publications differing in orientation, field of interest and groups of pression, which in the framework of the new democratic and republican order came to constitute a fundamental vehicle of ideas and cultural models, as well as an instrument employable in the political struggle. This development also affected the Catholic world. This call aims to investigate publishing “products” produced by ecclesiastical or secular entities for a wide or targeted audience, aimed at instructing, educating, outlining models, awakening devotions and other religious practices, as well as directing social and political behavior.

Late Medieval Cardinals Between Crises
From the Western Schism to the V Lateran Council (1378-1517)
The history of the cardinalate, which stretches from the 11th century to the present day, went through one of the most volatile phases of its development between the beginning of the Western Schism (1378) and the close of the Fifth Lateran Council (1517). This congress aims to work and reflect on these cardinals, both as a group, gathered in the Sacred College, and in their individual dimensions, as lords, members of lineages, pastors, reformers, conciliarists, centres of courts, families and networks, diplomats and representatives of nations, patrons of the arts, among others. The cross-sectional interest of this congress stems from the desire to feed the historiographical renewal that has been taking place over the last two decades on the medieval cardinalate, seeking to bring together researchers who are dedicated to its study, regardless of the angle of approach they may take.

Capitals of Italy: Spaces and “identities” from the Sister republics to fascism
This interdisciplinary Summer School, part of the Spazidentità project supported by the École Française de Rome, explores the relationship between spatial dimensions and the construction of Italian identity from the nineteenth century to Fascism. Focusing on capital cities, it examines how urban spaces, monuments, and museums shaped and reflected national belonging. Through theoretical discussions, in situ case studies in Rome, and presentations by doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, the program investigates the role of space in political transformations, revolutionary movements, and ideological projections. Key themes include the impact of unification, Fascist urban planning, and the contested narratives of Italy’s capitals.

Image et rituel en Italie et en Sicile antiques
Deuxième rencontre jeunes chercheurs
Cette journée s’inscrit dans une série de rencontres visant à rassembler des jeunes chercheurs travaillant sur les interactions entre les images et les rituels dans la péninsule italique et la Sicile du VIIIe siècle av. n. è. au début du IVe siècle de n. è. Elle concerne donc les cultures étrusques, italiques, grecques et romaines. Elle s’intéresse d’une part aux images de rituels, et d’autre part aux images dans le rituel, ce qui pose entre autres les questions de leur activation et de leur rôle de communication entre les mondes humain et divin. Le thème de la journée se veut suffisamment large pour que puissent y répondre des jeunes chercheurs de différentes disciplines et pays travaillant sur ces différentes aires chrono-géographiques, de manière à fédérer un large réseau.

Image et rituel en Italie et en Sicile antiques
Cet événement questionne les relations complexes qui se nouent entre image et rituel. Nous considérons les images de rituel, notamment dans une perspective anthropologique, et les images dans le rituel, tout particulièrement leur rôle de communication entre les mondes humain et divin. L’ensemble de la péninsule italique et la Sicile sont envisagées sur le temps long, du VIIIe siècle avant notre ère au début du IVe siècle de notre ère. Ainsi, à travers le prisme des images, les préoccupations religieuses et sociétales de diverses civilisations anciennes sont considérées. Entre traditions des peuples étrusques ou italiques, héritage hellène et usages romains, un dialogue s’instaure, qui permet d’apprécier les spécificités de chaque culture comme leurs interactions.
