Past and future of archaeological collections
Field exploration, movements, preservation (19th-21st c.)
This symposium will concentrate on the creation, transmission and movements of prehistoric collections –including natural history specimens, human remains, and artefacts–, from the colonial era to the present day. Particular emphasis will be placed on collections from Southeast Asia, however, case studies drawn from other historical and geographical contexts will also be represented.

Images de l'exploration de l'Asie
Pratiques et usages de la photographie aux marges des Empires (1860-1950)
Cette journée d’études a pour ambition de s’interroger sur les usages et les pratiques de la photographie en Asie, dans le cadre des explorations réalisées entre les années 1860 et la fin de la première moitié du XXe siècle. Durant la période choisie, l’Asie représente une zone de tension, de luttes de pouvoir et de revendications territoriales. L’ancrage chronologique correspond aux débuts de la pratique photographique et à l’amorce de la fin des empires en Asie après les années 1950. Cette journée propose d’envisager la photographie exploratoire comme un cadre de représentation, mais aussi comme une pratique et un processus. Il s’agira d’interroger non seulement un regard, mais aussi une pratique spatialisée. La réflexion se déploiera en quatre temps, de manière à englober les différents jalons de la chaîne de production photographique : mise en place sur le terrain et au retour de la mission, la prise de vue et intégration de l’objet photographique dans les collections patrimoniales.

This conference honours long-gone pioneers and those whose work ended in the early 2000s. We will explore their contributions to the exchange of knowledge across the Mediterranean. We invite archaeologists, historians, anthropologists, media and communication scholars, heritage curators, and witnesses to discuss these pioneering figures, focusing on their excavation methods, conservation techniques, and efforts to share knowledge about their archaeological finds.

Édouard Chavannes et la sinologie moderne en France
Si la France a été le premier pays en Europe à avoir institutionnalisé la sinologie en 1814 par la création d’une chaire au Collège de France, c’est avec Édouard Chavannes (1865-1918) qu’elle entre dans son ère moderne. Bien qu’il n’ait pas été témoin de la fondation à Paris de l’Institut des hautes études chinoises (IHEC) en 1920, ce sont ses élèves, Paul Pelliot et Marcel Granet, qui en furent les principaux animateurs. À l'occasion du centenaire de l'IHEC, ce colloque international se propose de revenir sur l’œuvre de Chavannes et de ses héritiers.

Perspectives linguistiques et implications didactiques
Ce colloque s’inscrit dans la nouvelle question de linguistique au programme de l’agrégation d’arabe, qui porte sur les phénomènes d’accord en genre et en nombre en arabe. La préparation de cette nouvelle question nous amène à réfléchir, en même temps, au fonctionnement linguistique de ces traits grammaticaux et à leurs implications pédagogiques.

Politisations des archéologies : fouilles, conflits et mémoires
En nous montrant le site de Sobibor, où les nazis implantèrent un camp d’extermination avant de tenter d’en effacer les traces, le film « Sheol » d’Arnaud Sauli nous le rappelle : contemporainement ou des décennies plus tard, les restes matériels des activités humaines se retrouvent fréquemment au cœur d’enjeux et conflits juridiques, politiques ou encore moraux. Les savoirs « archéologiques », relatifs à ces restes matériels, jouent dès lors un rôle essentiel dans ces conflits, et qu’il s’agisse des savoirs développés scientifiquement que ceux possédés par tout un chacun. Dans ce séminaire, deux historiens des sciences et une ethnologue emploieront trois cas pour décliner les manières dont les rapports se nouent entre les enjeux du présent et ces restes matériels d’activités passées : qu’il s’agisse d’activités anciennes ou récentes, belliqueuses ou quotidiennes, et relatives aux constructions nationales en des contextes proches ou lointains, étatiques ou infra-étatiques (Suisse, Palestine et Israël, Pays Basque et Espagne).

Figures, Trends, and Perspectives”.

International workshop
Our workshop aims to shed light on the various actors and institutions who shaped the field of prehistory from the 19th century until our days. They will allow us to grasp the establishment and development of prehistoric international and local networks on the longue durée. We encourage participants to address the socio-political and cultural contexts in which prehistory was practiced and knowledge produced. Many answers to the above questions and topics of research may be uncovered in personal, institutional, and administrative archives, while others are revealed in excavation reports. This brings us to the last section of our workshop: what sources for the history of Prehistory and how can they be used? Has the writing of a renewed history of the discipline affected today’s research and how?

Spirituality, Healthcare And Social Movements In East Asia
A Transnational Perspective
East Asian Network for the Academic Study Of Esotericism - EANASE's first conference aims to offer the chance to reflect on the intertwined relationship between spirituality, healthcare and social movements in East Asia from a trans-national/local/cultural perspective. The emergence of new religious movements like Theosophy, Falungong and Taireido, or the worldwide popularisation of, for instance, acupuncture, reiki and hypnosis, challenge reductionist binary views of East/West, tradition/modernity, science/religion. Likewise, the recent dissemination of New Age practices across East Asia or the ongoing study of Buddhist meditation by American and European psychiatrists seem to reflect broader concerns that, for the past two centuries or so, have ignored national and cultural borders – and whose wider social implications are now more visible than ever.

In the past 20 years, the Research Center on Shanghai History (ECNU) and the Lyon Institute of East Asian Studies (IAO) have established close cooperative relations : joint projects, joint publications, joints conferences, as well as the co-training of graduate students have become significant and regular markers of increasingly close relationships. On this basis we hope to further co-promote Shanghai and Tianjin as centers of new urban history and social order. Ce colloque international se penchera sur l’assimilation en Europe de connaissances relatives aux cultures chrétiennes-orientales, à partir surtout du dernier tiers du XIXe siècle, et sur le rôle que les missions ont joué dans ce processus. Ces connaissances nouvelles sont fondées en grande partie sur les travaux menés sur le terrain, au Moyen-Orient, en particulier sur les manuscrits conservés dans les monastères et les patriarcats, et plus généralement sur le patrimoine littéraire, linguistique, archéologique, cartographique et musicologique, des communautés chrétiennes installées.
