This conference offers a fresh perspective on the Palace of the Prince-Bishops of Liège in the 16th century, examining it as a place of power, representation, and artistic creation. Drawing on a critical re-examination of the archives and a material analysis of the monument, the conference will explore the political, cultural, and architectural ambitions that shaped the palace. Structured around three themes—historical and diplomatic context, artistic and intellectual dynamics, and a study of construction sites, materials, and techniques—it aims to convey the full complexity of this iconic site in the history of the Principality of Liège.

Les gestionnaires de mobilier, qui assurent la bonne conservation et la valorisation des vestiges mis au jour lors d’une opération archéologique, sont très souvent chargés également de la documentation associée. Ils doivent ainsi assurer la conservation de cette documentation, sa gestion et sa mise à disposition pour les chercheurs. La gestion de cette documentation, multiforme par sa typologie et les supports utilisés, nécessite des compétences et des infrastructures spécifiques.

L’archéologie et le patrimoine minier contemporain (ressources non fossiles)

Alors qu’aujourd’hui nos choix sociétaux sont plus que jamais tributaires des ressources minières, en particulier non fossiles, l’étude et la préservation du patrimoine minier ancien et la transmission mémorielle des activités minières passées deviennent un enjeu important. La journée réunira des acteurs du patrimoine minier contemporain, chercheurs et passionnés. L’exploitation des ressources minières non fossiles sera l’objet central des discussions. Néanmoins, si l’opportunité se présente, l’exploitation du charbon de terre ne sera pas dissociée de cette journée dans la mesure où des relations étroites existent avec l’exploitation des autres ressources minières.

Le concept d’ « atelier », utilisé autant en histoire de l’art qu’en archéologie, est au cœur detoutes les réflexions ces dernières décennies. La question de l’atelier mérite donc d’être interrogée suivant trois axes : Qu’est-ce qu’un atelier ? Comment comprendre les circulations et la transmission des savoirs sans recourir à lanotion d’atelier ? Quel est le statut du peintre et quelles collaborations sont possibles avec les autresartistes/artisans ?

Courtyards and patios in the Mediterranean
The courtyard or patio house, based on the intimate appropriation of a fragment of sky at the heart of the domestic space, is a major archetype of human habitation. Deeply rooted in Mediterranean traditions, it surprises with its longevity and its ability to generate unique expressions, shaped by the diversity of physical and cultural contexts. This archetype, which has spanned the centuries, from the ancient world to contemporary projects, continues to inspire architects, thinkers, and creators, and has regained particular relevance in light of the challenges of the 21st century, as contemporary issues invite us to rethink modes of dwelling. To explore these dimensions, the conference adopts a multidisciplinary approach structured around four cross-cutting themes. It is aimed at a diverse range of profiles—architects, historians, anthropologists, sociologists, archaeologists, artists, writers, climatologists, etc.—drawing on scientific contributions, feedback from architects, and artistic expressions.

Power, Society, and Territorial Dynamics in a Changing Italy (cent. 4th BC-1st AD)
Rome’s conquest of Italy wrecked the existing political environment. This struggle involved Greeks, peoples of Central Italy, Gauls, Etruscans, and shaped the Mediterranean world, giving the historical base on which our own was built. Yet, it remains not fully understood. Through a multidisciplinary analysis integrating archaeological and historical sources, this conference aims to investigate the transformation of power dynamics—military, economic, and social—and their impact on both urban centres and peripheral territories.
