  Producteurs et acteurs des « arts indigènes » dans l’Empire français (1893-1962)

  Largement employée à l’époque coloniale, la notion d’« arts indigènes » englobe toute production d’artefacts relevant d’une pratique « traditionnelle » autochtone. Elle exclut de fait, généralement, tout ce qui se rattache au champ des beaux-arts. Toutefois, un peintre miniaturiste comme Mohammed Racim est alors souvent placé dans une posture intermédiaire. Le périmètre de cette journée d’étude intéresse en premier lieu la première acception, mais sans s’interdire d’étudier de telles porosités au sein de la formation, de la création et de la valorisation, en lien avec le statut des créateurs.

  Media and Cultural Life in German-Occupied Western Europe (1940-1945)

  Though research on the cultural, political, social, and economic dimensions of propaganda in Nazi-occupied territories has a rich academic tradition, it is far from exhausted. There is still much research to be done in local, national, and especially transnational perspectives. There is also still significant potential for interdisciplinary investigation. This symposium will contribute to the development of new interdisciplinary and transnational research on media and cultural life in German-occupied Europe. Specific attention will be paid to the opportunities and challenges offered by the digitisation of archival collections, printed newspapers and audio-visual sources.

  Justices manifestes

  L’enregistrement de la scène judiciaire (Moyen Âge-Époque moderne)

  Les institutions judiciaires ne gardent pas seulement la trace des crimes et délits, du contentieux et des éventuelles décisions des magistrats, mais aussi du caractère apparent, ritualisé de la justice. Elles rendent ainsi, en leurs écrits, la justice manifeste. En considérant la scène judiciaire comme une rencontre, ce colloque vise à en envisager le déroulement, les espaces et les acteurs, mais aussi le décor, les paroles, les gestes et les objets ; tous en tant qu’ils sont saisis par l’enregistrement judiciaire. De la réception des magistrats à la prononciation et à l’exécution des décisions de justice en passant par le déroulé des audiences, les pratiques d’enregistrement du rituel judiciaire sont ainsi examinées dans la diversité des institutions judiciaires médiévales et modernes.

  Postures ventriloques (XVe-XVIIIe siècles)

  Depuis la plus haute Antiquité grecque et latine et à travers tout le Moyen Âge, les historien·nes, philosophes, littéraires et artistes ont mis en scène des personæ féminines et leur ont donné une voix. Qu’elles relèvent de l’ethos de l’amante éplorée (pensons aux poésies de Sapho ou aux Héroïdes d’Ovide), de la femme cruelle, de la jeune fille chaste et pure ou de la vieille d’origine modeste, ces « voix » féminines modulées à la première personne présentent une grande diversité d’ethe. Si on retrouve bien évidemment ces mêmes « voix » dans l’histoire, la littérature et les arts d’Ancien Régime, les bouleversements socioculturels importants que connaît la première modernité (XV^e-XVIII^e siècles) et qui amènent une transformation radicale du rapport des femmes à la culture ont entraîné une modification profonde des enjeux et modalités qui entourent leur prise de parole. Le quatrième colloque du CIREM 16/18 (Centre interuniversitaire de recherche sur la première modernité) vise à préciser la nature et l’ampleur de cette modification dans la construction du genre.

  The special issue is intended to discuss Balkan urban space and architecture through a cinematic perspective, and further explore elements linking urban studies with film studies. We are particularly interested in contributions discussing fiction films or documentaries focused on specific urban spaces of the Balkans, significant constructions, major cities or lesser-known towns and villages. We are also interested in itinerary films that map the peninsula through their passage from different built environments.

  Housing co-creation for tomorrow’s cities

  RE-DWELL Conference 2022

  Responses to different crises allow us to rethink housing conceptions and identify initiatives, policies and patterns that can make a difference for the future. Recently, the Covid-19 pandemic has revealed critical failures of current housing systems and the changing nature of our understanding of housing challenges. Initiatives and collaborations with a transformative potential have emerged or have been reinforced in that context. Moreover, transformations of conceptions, of policy agendas and of professional practices have been steered since a longer time by the recognition of the affordability crisis and of climate change as major challenges for the housing sector. The conference will focus on present or past collaborative initiatives that bring together local actors, from institutions to the third and private sector, regional and central governments, technicians, residents and sometimes academia. We will discuss the potential of such multi-actor processes and of co-creation to adapt the ways we conceive, build and manage housing to present and future challenges that cities face.

  Christoph Heyl (Univ. Duisburg-Essen) and Rémy Duthille (Univ. Bordeaux-Montaigne) are continuing the long tradition of the Landau-Paris Symposia on the Eighteenth Century, welcoming both established scholars of the field and early career researchers. The symposium focuses on the literature and culture of the British Isles of the period, but it is also open to topics relating to the British colonies, France, Germany, and further afield. The conference will include a panel of emerging scholars who are working on their PhD projects or are planning to begin a PhD project in the near future.

  Diplomatic marriages are attested in the Ancient Near East between the 3rd millennium BCE and the middle of the 1st. They took place after numerous negotiations and exchanges of gifts, and made it possible to seal or strengthen alliances with powers of the same rank or with vassal kingdoms. Thanks to the intervention of specialists of the Late Bronze Age in Egypt and the Ancient NearEast, and through the examination of textual, archaeological and iconographic sources, this symposium will analyse the place of women of the royal entourage in international relations.

  Thinking Europe Visually

  L'Europe par l'image et en images

  "If I had to do it again, I would start with culture": this statement often erroneously attributed to Jean Monnet suggests that in the absence of a shared culture, Europe as a political and economic construct remains nothing but a hollow shell. This conference aims to question the disillusioned position which holds that there is no meaningful common European culture, and to do so through images. One way to visualize the potential existence and limits of a European cultural base is indeed to trace the circulation of images – be they works of art, press images, posters, photographs, or even motifs and patterns – in the region, from antiquity through to the present day. What are the images that have circulated most widely in Europe? Are they specific to Europe or are they already globalized? What was their visual and symbolic impact? Is there a "visual culture" specific to Europe and, if so, what might be its distinctive "patterns"?

  What Latin America says to Europe: circulations, imaginaries, viewpoints (and fantasies)

  We often tend to think of Latin America as a periphery of the global space. The very idea of globalization is frequently equated with that of cultural “Americanization”. Understood as a “United States of America-nization”, it is generally considered only as a circulation of ideas, models, knowledge, techniques or cultural objects from the North or the West to the South. However, working on Latin America frequently leads us to encounter traces of it or to identify its influence in Europe. Politics, culture or knowledge: the objective of this conference is to study some of the diverse forms of Latin American presence in Europe and/or in the European gaze. The works discussed here will take these circulations as an object, analyzing their processes, forms and impact. But they can also take a more reflexive form, by questioning the status of European-based researchers interested in Latin America.

  Olive4All: The actors of the olive tree heritage and their commitment

  The first conference organised in the framework of the JPI-CH Olive4All project will take place in Kalamata from 28 May to 1 June 2022. It is part of the first workpackage of the project dedicated to the inventory of the olive tree heritage and to the identification of the actors who own it in the three regions of the programme (Provence in France, Messinia in Greece, Tras o Montes, Alto Douro and Alentejo in Portugal). Based on the joint surveys carried out, we will look at the actors linked to the olive tree heritage, the motivations for their commitment to its preservation and the forms of this commitment.

  Ce colloque se donne pour but d’explorer la richesse conceptuelle de la notion de noir et la multiplicité des enjeux qu’elle ouvre dans l’étude du texte, de l’écriture, de l’image, des formes mixtes. Les théories esthétiques et sémiotiques du noir, les fonctions et usages du noir dans les écritures et les arts graphiques, le rapport vide / plein dans la création, le vocabulaire du noir (comparaisons linguistiques et constructions culturelles), le rôle du noir en littérature, dans les nouveaux médias et en design, photographie et cinéma seront abordés. Les interventions, qui auront trait à l’Asie orientale avec une incursion au Vietnam et en Inde, relèveront de multiples disciplines.
