The rise of Gambling, mechanisms and consequences
This session aims to analyse the rise of gambling in Africa as a major social, economic, and territorial phenomenon. It will examine the reconfiguration of gambling spaces linked to digitalisation, as well as the role of betting in a context shaped by precarity and uncertainty as experienced by urban youth. Through several papers and a roundtable discussion devoted to the Senegalese case, the session will highlight the global circulations and North–South asymmetries that structure this rapidly expanding industry.

Economy of leftovers and recycling
Social, political and environmental dynamics in the Global South
Economies built around waste – rubbish, unsold goods, surplus, scrap, used materials – are becoming increasingly important in the Global South. This issue therefore aims to examine these forms of economic activity from three main perspectives: environmental, socio-economic and political. The objective is to bring together empirical and theoretical work that documents, compares and problematises these waste economies based on surveys conducted in Southern countries, while taking into account the circulation and cross-influences with Northern countries. These ‘waste products’ can take various forms, which the issue intends to consider in an open and pluralistic perspective.

L’ironie est impalpable et par définition quasiment indéfinissable, parce qu’elle se fonde sur une adéquation jamais nette au réel, sur une compréhension complice et sur l’attaque d’un système de croyances. C’est pourquoi elle a besoin d’instruments comme l’intertextualité et le style indirect libre, capables de brouiller l’identité et l’origine de la parole en s’en désolidarisant et en multipliant les citations et les échos d’autrui. Comment construire alors le mécanisme ironique en poésie ? Comment penser le rapport a priori contre-intuitif entre poésie et ironie ?

Translation Networks in the Decolonising World, 1950s–1970s
This conference seeks to redress narratives that often overlook translation’s role in shaping political and cultural transformation by foregrounding the networks of translation that enabled dialogue between communities, intellectuals, and revolutionary movements across Africa, Asia, and Latin America between the 1950s and 1970s. It aims to explore how translation practices facilitated the circulation of anti-colonial ideas, shaped notions of identity and sovereignty, and influenced the formation of new political and cultural realities in the decolonising world.

Underground Monuments in the Literatures and the Arts of the Global South
During this conference, we will aim to question the modalities through which an underground power could be exercised and embodied, one that refuses to establish domination, whether through its actions or through the signs that materialize it. We propose to conduct this reflection from the perspective of the Global South, as spaces that are often identified, notably, by the subordinate position they are deemed to occupy within historical, cultural, and economic power relations in colonial or postcolonial contexts. Reflecting on the conditions under which an underground force and monumentality might emerge could allow for a reconfiguration of the established balances within the Global South, by considering other criteria for defining power.

This workshop challenges traditional East-West Cold War narratives by examining the cultural interactions between communist Europe and the Global South. We will primarily focus on art, culture, and heritage as sources of new insights into historical narratives. We ask the following questions: How can artistic expression contribute to the rethinking of historical narratives? How have political circumstances shaped artistic and cultural production, and vice versa? What were the underlying power dynamics? And what are the contemporary legacies of such interactions?

The Comité International d’Histoire de l’Art (CIHA) and the Comité International des Sciences Historiques (CISH) during the Cold War
The Comité International d’Histoire de l’Art (CIHA) and the Comité International des Sciences Historiques (CISH) played a crucial role in the advancement of scholarship in the fields of Art History and History during the Cold War. We invite submissions of 20-minute papers exploring the history of these international organisations and their role in fostering transnational networks, cultural exchanges, and theoretical and methodological debates between scholars. We are also interested in local structures and the impact of international meetings on the development of national historiographies. We especially encourage papers focused on the Eastern Bloc and the Global South.

La question foncière : un enjeu majeur dans la construction des territoires et des sociétés
Le foncier est un objet de recherche particulièrement fécond puisqu’il relève de l’ensemble des rapports sociaux ayant pour support la terre et ses multiples formes d’affectation. En effet, les rapports sociaux résultent de l’interaction complexe de facteurs historiques, politiques, juridiques (normes d’appropriation et mode de règlement des conflits) et économiques (accumulation primitive du capital et extraction de la rente). Cette définition amène à prendre en compte la cristallisation des dimensions sociales et culturelles dans leurs composantes matérielles et idéelles (pratiques, mobilités, perceptions et représentations, stratégies de l’espace des individus et groupes sociaux, par exemple). De même, les services (transports, éducation, réseaux techniques dont l’eau, etc.), dans la mesure où ils déterminent les disparités et les inégalités foncières et sociales, sont essentiels dans l’appréhension des dimensions foncières. En somme, le foncier est un domaine sensible qui questionne les politiques publiques et les acteurs privés. Ce champ, en effet, renvoie à la fois à des dimensions économiques et politiques, de citoyenneté et à des notions d’égalité inégalité, d’équité / iniquité, de justice / injustice: la mixité et la cohésion sociales, l’accès au logement, le cadre de vie, l’espace public, ou encore « le droit à la ville », la revendication dans certains pays autour des « communs », etc.

This special issue of the Revue internationale des études du développement aims to bring together articles examining the way in which individuals and organizations have been rethinking (or not) their risk management methods to better face the challenges brought about by climate change. To combine perspectives and methods, this call for papers invites the submission of work falling within the scope of the four lines of inquir: 1/ Climate challenges and informal risk management strategies: what is the nature of the reconfigurations taking place? 2/ Climate challenges and formal protection tools: what responses do formal organizations and markets provide? 3/ Informal strategies and formal tools: how do they interact? What benefits do they provide? 4/ Measures, perceptions, and representations.

L’Afrique dans la musique cubaine : perspectives et défis au XXIe siècle
Le Centre d’études et de recherche musicales (CERMUS) invite la communauté académique à soumettre des travaux originaux pour envisager leur publication dans l’œuvre collective intitulée « África en la músicacubana: perspectivas y desafíos en el siglo XXI ». L’initiative de cette publication est motivée par les débats soulevés lors du congrès de la Latin American Studies Association (LASA - Afrique) qui s'est tenu au Ghana en 2023, où il est apparu nécessaire de revisiter, systématiser et actualiser la portée des approches qui ont soutenu les recherches musicologiques, ethnologiques et d’autres domaines des sciences sociales, qui sont aujourd’hui des références dans le champ des études sur l’héritage africain dans la musique cubaine.

Les sciences sociales et la question de la ruralité dans les Suds
En hommage à Abdelmalek Sayad
Depuis les années soixante, décennie des indépendances politiques en Afrique majoritairement, les pays décolonisés se sont lancés selon des fortunes diverses dans des processus diversifiés d’appropriation du savoir scientifique qui était auparavant l’apanage des puissances coloniales, tout particulièrement dans le domaine des sciences sociales. Ces dernières, notamment les travaux portant sur le monde rural, avaient été mobilisées dans une vision développementaliste qui accordait à cet espace et aux études s’y rapportant une place prépondérante. L’objectif du colloque « Les sciences sociales et la question de la ruralité dans les Suds » est d’entamer un travail d’inventaire empirique, théorique et épistémique des sciences sociales rurales dans/sur les Suds depuis la décolonisation jusqu’à la mondialisation (1960- 2023). Il s’adresse en priorité aux sociologues, anthropologues et géographes, mais sera ouvert aux autres champs disciplinaires (histoire, économie, littérature…) et transdisciplinaires (genre, environnement, périurbain…).

Les peuples autochtones, interdépendants des écosystèmes qui les accueillent, sont depuis longtemps en première ligne face aux bouleversements écologiques liés à l’anthropocène. Ce cycle de conférences exposera comment leurs milieux de vie sont menacés de disparition et leur existence bouleversée dans ses dimensions matérielles, sociales et culturelles. Il présentera aussi les stratégies que ces peuples développent face aux effets délétères de l’anthropocène.

Ce colloque a pour ambition d’explorer les circulations de la pensée décoloniale dans un sens Sud-Sud (Abya Yala / Amérique latine – Afrique) et Sud-Nord (Abya Yala / Amérique latine – Europe). Quelle est la réception de la théorie décoloniale dans les universités européennes et africaines ? Comment est-elle reçue et utilisée dans l’enseignement et la recherche ? Plus largement, le colloque vise à envisager et élargir les liens entre les différentes pensées critiques universitaires, en l’occurrence les études subalternes et postcoloniales, ou encore la perspective africana, beaucoup plus diffusées en Europe et en Afrique.

Il paraît judicieux et nécessaire de réfléchir aux défis de la formation initiale et continue dans le but d’assurer aux apprenants une éducation qui tient compte de la diversité et des inégalités ainsi que des avancées numériques. Le forum s’attarde aussi sur les pratiques enseignantes, l’insertion professionnelle et les conditions d’exercice du travail enseignant, de même que sur les enjeux de gouvernance et leurs impacts sur la réussite éducative.
