Ce colloque propose d’explorer les relations entre littérature et pensée des Lumières dans l’espace méditerranéen. Il s’agit d’interroger la manière dont les formes littéraires ont contribué à l’élaboration, à la circulation et à la critique des idées des Lumières, ainsi que leur postérité dans les productions littéraires ultérieures. Une attention particulière sera portée aux dynamiques transméditerranéennes, aux circulations culturelles et aux tensions entre universalité des principes et contextes historiques.

Matériaux « non chronologiques » dans les chroniques universelles. Raisons et méthodes

Dans ce colloque, nous analyserons la dimension « encyclopédique » de nombreuses chroniques universelles médiévales, qui dépassent la simple succession chronologique des faits par l’intégration de « digressions » issues de sources historiques, théologiques, exégétiques, poétiques, hagiographiques et scientifiques. Il s’agira d’examiner les modalités de cette intégration de matériaux hétérogènes, d’en comprendre les motivations, d’identifier les bibliothèques mobilisées par les auteurs et d’en analyser les enjeux éditoriaux, notamment au regard des révisions successives d’une œuvre par son auteur et en dialogue avec le reste de sa production.

Galant Eroticism and Its Markets (1650-1720)

This conference aims to explore the emergence, from the second half of the seventeenth century onward in France, of a new market for eroticism, linked to the development of the galanterie, understood here as an ideal of sociability grounded in values such as refinement, playfulness, and equality between the sexes. Drawing on a wide range of media – whether texts, images, engravings, or music – participants will be invited not only to question the renewed representations that characterize this new eroticism, but also to examine its conditions of production, circulation, and reception, in France and, more broadly, on a European scale.

Animal Behaviour and Environments: Ecological Perspectives from Antiquity to the Present

This conference aims, through a resolutely interdisciplinary approach, to explore the relations between animals and their environments. Bringing together scholars in ancient and medieval philology, the history of zoological knowledge, and contemporary ecological sciences, the event seeks to examine how living beings interact with their surroundings—and how these interactions have been conceptualised, described, and modelled from Antiquity to the present. Two main thematic axes will structure the discussion: 1. Animals and Environments: Ancient and Modern Ecologies; 2. Animal Ecological Awareness: Perception, Umwelt, and Narrative Models

The French Revolution and the Sacred

Global and Contemporary Perspectives (18th c. – present)

In the years leading up to the bicentenary commemorations of 1989, a new liberal interpretation of the French Revolution challenged a long-lived socialist one. In contrast to the Marxist view of a “bourgeois revolution” with popular support, the liberal historiography has recurrently emphasized the role of “revolutionary ideology” and the “collective mentality” which led to the episode of the “Terror”. We might take the end of Cold War binary frameworks as an opportunity to move beyond this long-lasting interpretive divide, and to reinvestigate how the Revolution transformed ideas of the sacred and has itself been sacralized.

Gérard Lebrun ou l’envers de la philosophie

Histoire et critique du discours philosophique

Le colloque « Gérard Lebrun ou l’envers de la philosophie » met à l’honneur une figure française de l’histoire de la philosophie de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle : Gérard Lebrun (1930-1999), Professeur d’histoire de la philosophie moderne à l’Université de Provence du début des années 1960 à la fin des années 1990, spécialiste de philosophie allemande classique et fin connaisseur de l’ensemble de l’histoire de la philosophie des Grecs aux contemporains. Pendant trente ans, Lebrun partagea son activité d’enseignant et de chercheur entre l’Université de Provence à Aix-en-Provence, l’Université de São Paulo au Brésil, et plus occasionnellement l’École Normale Supérieure de la rue d’Ulm, où il forma des générations d’étudiants. Son influence fut puissante et durable au Brésil, même si, en France, Lebrun est moins connu que d’autres « habitués » de l’USP des années soixante, tels Michel Foucault ou même Gilles Gaston Granger.

Animals in Byzantine fables, proverbs, and dreambooks

Studies on animals in the Byzantine world are gaining considerable momentum. An increasing number of scholars are exploring and reconstructing zoobiographies through the lens of Byzantine literature. Yet a significant corpus of texts—often unjustly relegated to the category of minora—remains underexplored, despite teeming with animal life. In fables, popular tales, proverb collections, school manuals, rhetorical treatises, and dreambooks, animals play important roles : they drive narrative plots, embody moral and social agency, and serve as crucial vehicles for cultural meaning.

The aim of this monographic issue is to serve as a compilation and new impetus for this research into the Muslim presence in Portuguese lands, both under the sphere of Andalusian influence (Garb al-Andalus) and under Christian rule (Portugal).
