Greeks and Local Historiography
Following the first Τ Ε Κ Μ Η Ρ Ι Α Meeting, held in October 2023, and the publication of the Proceedings in December 2024 (https://shorturl.at/FQXE6), the initiative comes to its second edition, offering once again a space for exchange, confrontation and discussion in the wake of interdisciplinarity. Subject of this second Study and Research Meeting will be Greeks and Local Historiography.

Influencias, préstamos y apropiaciones
La visión de los dos bloques confesionales monolíticos en el s. XVI ha dado paso al estudio del complejo entramado de relaciones mantenidas entre católicos y reformados más allá de las fronteras religiosas, unas delimitaciones necesariamente porosas. En este marco, los manuales de catequesis y las obras de doctrina cristiana constituyen un tema privilegiado de estudio en cuanto a los préstamos y apropiaciones de producciones textuales procedentes de allende los Pirineos. Este coloquio sobre la catequesis en la edad de la Reforma en la Península ibérica brinda la ocasión de profundizar en la cuestión de los intercambios explícitos o iimplícitos desde el campo católico o protestante y analizar en el mismo tiempo la profunda renovación de la catequística en el s. XVI.

Citizenship and Religious Pluralism
The Dominican Institute for Oriental Studies (Idéo) in Cairo, in partnership with the University of Insubria (Varese and Como), is organizing a Summer School in July 2025 as part of the Anawati Chair “Combating Religious Extremism through Interfaith Dialogue.” This program is specifically designed for PhD students or recent doctoral graduates (since January 1, 2023) focusing on citizenship and religious pluralism.

La question de la laïcité est dans de nombreux pays d’une actualité incandescente, le phénomène étant notamment lié aux effets de la globalisation, des migrations et du « retour du religieux » après l’effondrement des grandes idéologies. Ainsi, la mise en scène de son appartenance religieuse - avec ou sans foi - apparaît de nos jours comme une condition tacite de la participation sociale du citoyen à la collectivité, de l’exercice de la citoyenneté, à rebours des principes des Lumières, de la liberté individuelle et du savoir qui seuls sauraient garantir l’émancipation individuelle.

Les lieux de l’interaction entre les hommes et les puissances divines dans la vie politique des cités grecques
Le monde des cités grecques ne saurait se comprendre sans tenir compte de la relation étroite et permanente qui unissait les hommes et les dieux, à différents niveaux et dans tous les domaines d’activités, aussi bien publiques que domestiques. Cette journée d’étude est conçue comme une invitation à confronter les observations faites à partir d’ensembles documentaires dispersés afin de nourrir une réflexion plus générale sur les interactions entre humain et divin dans le cadre de la vie politique des cités grecques de l’époque archaïque à l’époque romaine.

Judas the Galilean: the Man and his Significance
In 6 CE, while Quirinius was taking the census of Judea, the first Jewish opposition aroused against Roman presence in the region, led by a man known as Judas the Galilean (or the Gaulanite). According to Josephus, all subsequent troubles were the fact of this man. But who was Judas? Was he so important in the history? Was he even challenging Roman authorities? As usual in similar cases, the scholarly debates are endless about the man and his significance. This conference aims to survey all of the many faces of Judas in recent historiography and to discuss each evidence in order to estimate the true place of Judas in history.

Floods and Other Destructions. Stories about the End in the Ancient Eastern Mediterranean
Le colloque porte sur la pratique de mise en récit des moments de crise, de destruction et de désagrégation sociale au sein de différentes civilisations du pourtour de la Méditerranée orientale ancienne (IIe-Ier millénaire av. J.-C.). À travers l’analyse des convergences et des divergences entre les modèles narratifs concernés – issus de la Grèce ancienne et de la Mésopotamie, du Levant et de l’ancien Israël – on examinera les éléments linguistiques et les conceptions mobilisés afin de décrire ce qui détruit – mais aussi, en contre-jour, ce qui fonde – l’identité d’une société et de ses institutions, ainsi que sa manière de se mettre en relation avec le divin et la sphère religieuse. La perspective transversale et interdisciplinaire du colloque permettra également de discuter la possibilité d’inscrire les récits et discours analysés dans un horizon culturel partagé, où chaque civilisation vient inscrire ses spécificités.

This call for applications is addressed, in particular, to researchers in the history of the religions of antiquity, with an excellent knowledge of ancient Greek and a good familiarity with epigraphical corpora.

The ERC MAP Seminar “The Names of the Gods! 5: Who named the gods? Utterers, addressers, ritual agents” pursues the investigation on the systems of naming of the divine. This year, it focuses on the human agents in the process of naming the divine, whether they are producers of a discourse on the deities, addressers in a communication with the deities, or even experts in charge of a ritual knowledge. What agency do men and women exercise in the production of a specific denomination of the divine? How can we question their choices, their anchoring in a tradition or their innovation strategies?

The Philosophical Journal of Conflict and Violence (PJCV) is seeking articles dealing with philosophical issues that arise in connection with the conception of conflict and violence within Plato’s philosophy. Conflict and violence are often regarded as two of Plato’s main interests in his political thought, especially when he discusses the dread and danger they bring to the city. However, is it possible to understand conflict and violence in Plato’s work only from this political and rather pejorative standpoint? It is possible to see conflict and violence in Plato’s philosophy as something else, rather than a threat to the harmony of the community?
