By choosing to focus on South-North circulations, this seminar is dedicated to the deconstruction of the “British Empire” as a homogeneous category to write and think about the intellectual, artistic, and political histories of the people who circulate and inhabit this polity known as the Commonwealth of Nations in the post-Bandung era. Working from the assumption that committed artists, intellectuals and political activists from the Global South have networked and connected within this space, we seek to interrogate the counter-hegemonic nature of the knowledge, theories and artistic practices produced during the post-Bandung era.

La Guerre froide latino-américaine : dialogues globaux
Desde finales del siglo XX, las investigaciones sobre la Guerra Fría en Latinoamérica han adoptado un enfoque transnacional, centrado en redes que cruzan fronteras y actores no estatales. Estas investigaciones amplían el marco temporal, utilizando perspectivas más globales y basadas en fuentes de archivos latinoamericanos, con el fin de resaltar la agencia de los actores locales y alejarse del análisis bipolar tradicional. El objetivo del panel es visibilizar esta producción regional y establecer un diálogo con investigaciones de otras regiones, discutiendo metodologías, avances en el acceso a datos y la situación de los archivos en el continente.

Diplomacies, Diplomats, and Sports, 19th–21st Century
Unlike the often-speculative analyses of many experts, this conference aims to examine the relationship between diplomats, diplomacies, and sport by analyzing sources (archives, interviews, etc.), with a focus on its forms, practices, and the actors who shape them. The theme of sport and international relations has remained a largely overlooked area in scholarly research within history, international relations, and organizational sociology.

Si l’histoire des relations internationales a d’emblée placé la guerre et de la paix au cœur de ses analyses, le déséquilibre demeure flagrant entre les études consacrées aux conflits armés, et celles plus discrètes relatives aux processus de paix. Une place particulière sera donc réservée aux acteurs et modalités des négociations ; à la mémoire de ces négociations, de leurs succès comme de leurs échecs, au rôle des organisations internationales ou régionales dans les sorties de guerre, aux conceptions proprement asiatiques de la paix, de la sécurité et du pacifisme, dont la dimension asiatique n’est guère abordée en dehors du Japon.

Extractivist Enterprise and International Organizations (1919-1989)

Corporate actors have played a hidden yet highly influential role in shaping the global order, often securing their interests in international organizations, such as the League of Nations and the United Nations. Extractive industries, which focus on natural resources such as oil, gas, minerals, and metals, including rare earths, were the bedrock of capitalism in the long twentieth century. How did they exert their influence within, through and against international organizations? What tools did they adopt to attain their goals at global metropoles such as Addis Ababa, Bangkok, Geneva, New York, and Santiago? Who challenged their efforts and who supported them and how? What effects did formal decolonization have on the role of extractive enterprise in these global spaces?

Indépendance(s) : luttes, négociations et quête de souveraineté
Le 20 mars 1956, la Tunisie signe le protocole de son indépendance, suivant de près le Maroc, qui obtient la sienne le 2 mars 1956. Soixante-dix ans plus tard, cette année charnière (1956) marque un tournant dans l’histoire de la décolonisation et la fin des empires coloniaux. Toutefois, au-delà de l’euphorie souvent trompeuse d’une victoire apparente, ce colloque entend replacer la notion d’indépendance dans un cadre plus nuancé, en prenant en considération les contraintes objectives qui ont jalonné son cheminement. À travers une approche comparatiste, nous proposerons une réflexion approfondie sur ce concept, en examinant les dimensions politiques, militantes et celles liées aux luttes armées engagées pour son obtention. Loin de percevoir l’indépendance comme une finalité en soi, nous ambitionnons d’aller au-delà pour mesurer dans quelle mesure elle a véritablement conduit à la réalisation d’une souveraineté pleine et entière.

Séminaire de recherche en nouvelle histoire diplomatique et contemporaine
Organisé en plusieurs séances de janvier à mai 2026, le séminaire de recherche Vu du Quai, en référence aux mémoires de l’ambassadeur français Henri Froment-Meurice (1923-2018), propose d’aborder un ensemble de problématiques relatives à l’histoire des relations diplomatiques françaises aux XXe et XXIe siècles. Ce séminaire est ouvert aux chercheurs confirmés, jeunes chercheurs et doctorants qui souhaitent valoriser leurs travaux et participer aux réflexions avancées dans ce cadre. Les professionnels des archives, du patrimoine et de la diplomatie sont également invités à participer afin de renforcer l’entrecroisement des disciplines et des expertises. Les étudiants de Master 2 peuvent également soumettre une proposition, sous réserve de présenter un résumé structuré et rigoureux de leur mémoire.

Appropriating international spaces and professions
European women and feminists in the 20th century
The workshop focuses on the intersections between the history of international relations, European studies and women's and gender history. Since the early 21st century, historiography on international relations and European integration has undergone profound transformations, enabling the integration of a gender perspective. However, writing a history of European and international relations from a female perspective and integrating a gender perspective into these scientific fields remains a challenge. Therefore, the aim of this workshop is to take stock of approaches at the crossroads of the study of international relations, European integration, gender and feminism. It will provide a forum for debate on recent empirical work and work in progress.

Diplomates et diplomaties en révolutions (XXe-XXIe siècles)
Ce colloque vise à interroger la manière dont les acteurs diplomatiques – au sens large du terme – appréhendent les phénomènes révolutionnaires durant un long XXe siècle. Il s’inscrit dans une histoire sociale et culturelle de la diplomatie, de ses acteurs, de ses pratiques, de ses représentations, de ses valeurs et de ses interactions avec les sociétés en révolution. Les problématiques du colloque seront orientées selon deux grands axes : le premier axe portera sur les perceptions et les pratiques des acteurs diplomatiques et consulaires en poste à l’étranger, pendant leur mission, face à une situation révolutionnaire ; le second axe s’intéressera aux comportements politiques des acteurs diplomatiques qui représentent un pays en proie à un bouleversement révolutionnaire.

Eastern Bloc Universities as a Meeting Place for International Youth during the Cold War
This study day on international mobility is part of the transnational turn in research on the Cold War, which in recent years has highlighted a certain permeability of the Iron Curtain. It will focus on the transnational movement of students. It will focus in particular on the universities of Eastern Europe as a place of sociability and cultural mixing, and as a meeting place for young people. It will look at the issues at stake and the ways in which these encounters take place, in order to understand their impact on the personal trajectories of these young people at a time when their identity and professional pathways are being forged.

Séminaire du projet Amidex « Democratic Alliance in the Indo-Pacific »
L’Asie-Pacifique, récemment rebaptisée Indo-Pacifique pour mieux y inclure l’Inde était, jusqu’à la guerre en Ukraine, le principal point de tension géopolitique d’un ordre mondial en pleine reconfiguration idéologique, dans lequel la démocratie libérale est de plus en plus contestée. Porté par une équipe de spécialistes des pays du monde anglophone, ce sémnaire s’attache à analyser comment, à partir d’alliances historiques et solides, établies en période de conflit (guerres mondiales, guerre froide), l’Australie, les Etats-Unis et le Royaume-Uni renforcent leurs partenariats et leur puissance dans la région, au plan politique, militaire, économique et culturel, la France jouant également sa carte.

Le colloque se base sur l’invitation du président Sukarno, architecte de la Conférence afro-asiatique, dans son mémorable discours à l’Assemblée générale des Nations unies (30 septembre 1960), pour reconstruire le monde. Au cœur de cette vaste entreprise, se trouvent la solidarité entre l’Afrique et l’Asie, et leurs liens avec le reste du monde. Dans une perspective trans- et multidisciplinaire, il s’agira pour les participant·es à la conférence de penser les formes et les modalités d’une solidarité entre les deux continents et à l’échelle du monde, qui permettrait de reconstruire un monde qui fait face à des crises multiformes et inédites.

Since its entry into World War 1 in 1917, the United States has played a pivotal international role across political, economic, cultural, and military arenas. This trajectory has been characterized by waves of both Americanization and anti-Americanism, with military interventions increasingly assuming a central role—albeit with notable distinctions. The United States has been consistently engaged in overseas operations. This call for papers seeks to explore the complex relationship between wars, Americanism, and anti-Americanism from the 20th century to the present.
