Philosophy and the National Question

Taking as its starting point the idea of “philosophical nationalism” proposed by Jacques Derrida, this seminar aims to question the way in which different national and nationalist discourses have accompanied both the construction of modern philosophical historiography and the development of comparative or intercultural philosophy. The division of the world into “philosophical nations” still constitutes today the starting point of any comparative effort and leads to making the “dialogue between traditions” a discourse tending to legitimize national ideologies.

The aim of the call (papers and posters) is to update and put into perspective the teaching of the architect Giancarlo De Carlo, twenty years after his death. By reconnecting with the roots of a way of thinking that closely links theory and practice, the aim is to situate De Carlo's contributions within the theoretical and methodological debates of his time and to place his legacy in the context of the debates and practices that question the evolution of architectural education and their links (or lack of links) with contemporary professional practices. The combination of these two objectives should make it possible to open up a more global debate on the development of architectural education in the face of global changes.

Práticas da História is an open-access, bi-annual online academic journal, and it is looking to publish original articles, bibliographical essays, interviews, and book reviews on the subject matters of historical theory, historiography, methodology, and the uses of the past. We encourage submissions in Portuguese, English, French, or Spanish. The journal attaches equal importance to research relating the practice of history with other domains of the humanities and to works debating history in the context of the social sciences. While we find ourselves in the disciplinary field of history, we do aspire to question the boundaries of the field. It is our goal to promote interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinarity.

La (dé)fragilisation des discours. Acteurs, processus et effets

Ce colloque international à visée interdisciplinaire s’intéresse aux discours qui ne bénéficient pas d’assises suffisamment fortes au sein de l'espace public et risquent d'être maintenus ou relégués dans un espace de l'inaudible. Bien que la démocratisation de l’espace de parole ait multiplié le nombre de locuteurs légitimes dans l’espace public, elle n’a pas pour autant élargi le cercle des récepteurs. Ainsi, si davantage de voix s’expriment, les discours se trouvent paradoxalement fragilisés. Adoptant une approche processuelle, nous invitons à porter le regard sur la diversité de phénomènes conduisant à la fragilisation (mais aussi à la défragilisation) de ces discours.

Le présent appel à contributions voudrait rassembler des recherches transdisciplinaires en sciences humaines portant sur le sport en Afrique. Il s’agit de partager des savoirs sur le lien tridimensionnel entre ses pratiques, ses acteurs et ses territoires. Cela revient à examiner les formes de déploiement des imaginaires du (d’un) sport sur un territoire donné ; d’envisager les lieux de sport comme lieux discursifs ; sur les politiques territorialisées du (d’un) sport, ses étais idéologiques ou ses formes transgressives. L’appel vise à faire le point des recherches sur une idée sociale et anthropologique du sport en Afrique.

La trentième édition du colloque consacré à la francophonie par l’Université Alexandru Ioan Cuza de Iaşi s’intéresse aux dynamiques contemporaines de la francophonie dans ses manifestations culturelles, identitaires, littéraires, langagières, éducatives. Quelles mutations la francophonie connaît-elle dans la société contemporaine ? Quelle(s) perception(s) a-t-on de nos jours du français – langue véhiculaire, de la diplomatie, de culture, de travail, etc. – et quelles fonctions lui assigne-t-on ? Comment l’utilisation de la langue d’autrui façonne-t-elle les discours ? Quelles sont les singularités des littératures francophones actuelles, migrantes ou autres ? Quels défis pour les sociétés contemporaines – éclatées, multilingues, pluriculturelles ? La spécificité nationale est-elle à présent une peau de chagrin ? Quelles sont les nouvelles pratiques issues de la communication numérique et de l’intelligence artificielle ? De langue-monde à littérature-monde, nous interrogerons – et serons immanquablement interrogés par – la francophonie, cette notion-monde.

These phenomena reflected improvements in transport conditions, better organisation of trade networks and the resources of capitalism. The images and literature related to the world of commerce diversified and transformed society’s perception of this practice and its players (pedlars, itinerant merchants, manufacturers, wholesalers, entrepreneurs, etc.). How do the representations of these places of professional sociability reflect these societal changes?

VulneRom : Vulnérabilités sociolinguistiques dans l’espace roman

Le premier congrès international VulneRom : Vulnérabilités sociolinguistiques dans l’espace roman se constitue comme une rencontre académique d’interaction, d’échange et de réflexion sur l’étude ethnosociolinguistique des langues romanes qui se trouvent en situation de fragilité pour diverses raisons (démographiques, économiques, politiques, géographiques, voire climatiques, entre autres), qui peuvent conjointement conduire à la disparition desdites langues à court ou à long terme. Le traitement de la question de la vulnérabilité, appliqué au champ d’une famille de langues, telle que la famille romane, dans des situations de contact linguistique, apporte une réflexion complémentaire sur les facteurs intralinguistiques et interlinguistiques qui pourraient se répercuter sur le statut des langues les plus socialement et socialement défavorisées, ou même être exploités pour leur discrédit.

“Teaching the Manner of Performing all Steps…” The Technical Dance Treatises (1700-1750)

International conference Celebrating the 300th anniversary of the publication of “Le Maître à danser” by Pierre Rameau (1725)

The year 2025 will mark the 300^th anniversary of the publication of a major work for the understanding of the dance of the 18^th century: The Dancing-Master which Teaches the Manner of Performing all the Different Steps in Dancing in All Regularity of the Art and How to Move the Arms with Each Step by Pierre Rameau (1674-1748). On the anniversary of this publication, we wish to review the history and the content of the Maître à danser, but also the circumstances of its creation, situating it more generally in the history of treatises on dance technique during the first half of the 18^th century. The conference will also cover practices of which the treatise merely bears traces of, which have only been revealed in recent research. The objective of this colloquium will thus be twofold: To gain a fuller picture of the role of this work in the 18^th century and its effects on current practices in the reconstruction of Early Dance.

Counter-Hegemonic Discourses in the Indian Ocean and in Africa: Thinking and Writing a Shared World?

One of the major questions brought up by this conference is to understand how these discourses – which pursue the emancipation and decolonization of both the Indianoceanic and African thought and a re-evaluation of the notion of creolization, whether explicitly mentioned or underlying – can help to shape new “relationalities”. Could they establish new fields of force between the islands of the Indian Ocean and the African continent? This conference invites interdisciplinary perspectives to examine how these various forms of discourse attempt to deconstruct dominant ideologies, and social-cultural structures and norms. Do these discursive constructions and strategies reflect a desire to bring the islands of the Indian Ocean closer to Africa, and to seek a reappraisal of their shared history?

The conference will take place from October 22 to 24, 2025, at Université Jean Monnet, in Saint-Étienne. The junior laboratory GRAPHÉ (Research Group on Philological and Human Action through an Epistemological Prism) was founded at Université Jean Monnet in Saint-Étienne in 2024. It aims at conducting an incipient, interdisciplinary study of the ways in which languages influence and are influenced by human actions. After an initial symposium in October 2024 dedicated to the interpenetration of language and politics, we now wish to organize a conference focusing on language in all its newest forms, by confronting it with the latest analytical prisms and methods of study.

Transcr(é)ation is a specialty journal dedicated to intermediality and the dialogues between texts and films, without prioritizing either. This term has been borrowed from translation studies in order to shed some light on the benefits of such a dialogue between the media. We welcome any theoretical or analytical works, interviews, and thematic dossiers on the questions of intermediality, transposition between media, dialogue between and through the arts, or any other foray into related subjects. For our 7^th dossier, we are calling for papers in either English or French dealing with psychoanalysis and contemporary fictions from cinema and TV series.
