Les références à l’héritage chrétien sont constantes dans l’œuvre de Michel Foucault, l’un des plus importants philosophes du XXe siècle. L’ampleur des références ne doit pas nous surprendre : comprendre le rapport que nous avons aujourd’hui à nous-mêmes et à notre désir demande de s’interroger sur les obligations de vérité que le christianisme a instituées en Occident, à travers un certain gouvernement des âmes. Que faut-il dire et manifester de soi pour être examiné, jugé, pardonné, transformé, sauvé ?

Politics of demarcation and the radical right in post-war Europe
Discrimination – in its literal sense of drawing distinctions – is at the core of right-wing politics. The demarcation of people along imagined and uneven, hierarchical lines may be its key feature, yet one particular demarcation has so far escaped scholarly attention: The inner right’s self-definition, not as a nation, race, or Volk, but as a political movement and a coherent political thought, and its answer to the question of who is part of it and who is not. This process, though largely overlooked, can be seen as a particularly fraught one – at least for the right-wing movements of post-war Europe, which were not only faced with the tasks of shedding the devastating legacy of fascism, rearranging ideological fragments, and creating new self-attributions, agendas, and alliances. They also did so under the watchful eye of post-war societies and institutional actors, who themselves had strong motivations for defining what is (radically) right.

Écritures du travail : pour une approche comparatiste (1875 - 1975)
Depuis la rationalisation du travail, accentuée au XIXe siècle par l’industrialisation, de nombreuses sociétés humaines sont majoritairement composées d’une classe laborieuse, paysanne, ouvrière et employée, faisant du travail un sensible partagé, un dénominateur permettant une expérience commune par-delà les frontières nationales et allant jusqu’à définir l’identité d’un individu. Pourtant, un silence étrange enveloppe le sujet du travail en littérature, sujet qui, selon l’expression de M. Denning, « résiste[rait] à la représentation ». Mais n’est-ce pas plutôt le champ littéraire qui résiste au travail que le travail qui résiste à la littérature ? Car, pour un sujet qui « résiste à la représentation », cette dernière a pourtant été éclectique, foisonnante et diverse.Ce colloque propose des journées de réflexion sur les écritures du travail dans une perspective comparatiste, internationale et transdisciplinaire de 1875 à 1975.

Communication, Information, Politics and Culture in the U.S.
Médiamerica is a seminar on American news media organized by researchers working in France. Its aim is to cultivate research on the links between communication, politics, culture, and the processes by which information is produced, circulated, and given form, focusing on the North American context. Médiamerica brings together researchers with varied backgrounds to explore these issues from both historical and contemporary perspectives. The seminar offers a space for scholarly reflection and debate, to consider emergent phenomena in news and communication, as well as the ways in which the academic community on both sides of the Atlantic conceptualize such phenomena. This initiative seeks to build bridges between anglophone studies and communication studies, encouraging dialogue between different methodological approaches and benefiting from an intercultural perspective.

En France, plusieurs traditions intellectuelles se sont intéressées aux productions des personnes vivant des expériences en lien avec la maladie chronique, le handicap, des troubles de santé mentale, la vie à la rue, des addictions. Suivant les périodes historiques et les perspectives analytiques, ces productions ont été qualifiées de croyances, de représentations sociales, de théories profanes, etc. Aujourd’hui, le concept de savoir expérientiel fiat florès, sans pour autant faire consensus sur son sens.

Cet anniversaire doit être l’occasion de revenir non seulement sur l’histoire de RSF mais aussi sur les rapports complexes entre médias, au sens large du terme, pouvoirs, dans leur diversité, et organisations qui défendent les droits humains et, plus spécifiquement, la liberté d’expression dans le monde.

Insects, “bichos” and other “bugs” in the literature of the Americas (19th to 21st centuries)

This call aims to bring together works that question the representation of insects and other “bichos” in literature aimed primarily at young people, in the Americas. Scrutinized especially through the prism of European culture, the insect appears small, repugnant, sometimes useful (the bee), sometimes an example of tenacity and courage (the ant). What about its place in the American space? Do indigenous cultures deploy discourses and images referring to a unique relationship to the world of “bugs”, different from or linked to those of European cultures? How does the study of “bugs” allow us to deepen our knowledge of the relationship with nature in the Americas and to identify avenues for educational action based on works published for young people?

Left-Wing Women’s Organizing and Activism in the Twentieth Century
This conference seeks to bring together scholars from different disciplines working on various aspects of the history of women’s activism and organizing. It aims to explore how women across the spectrum of left-wing politics shaped and influenced the twentieth century’s political, social, and cultural landscapes. The conference aspires to assess the contribution of left-wing women’s activists to the general struggle for women’s emancipation using intersectional, postcolonial, and critical-feminist approaches, acknowledging the pluralities in forms and methods of organizing. We encourage prospective participants to explore different forms and frameworks of women’s activism, collaboration, and/or antagonism; continuities and discontinuities within left-wing currents throughout the twentieth century. We urge moving away from Western-centric perspectives, looking into the broader history of women's activism.

Le groupe d'étude et de recherche sur la colonisation et les formes de domination en Afrique (GERCO) lance un appel à contribution pour la rédaction d’un ouvrage collectif sur le thème « Cameroun : une histoire coloniale ». C’est un projet qui vise à questionner, au-delà du statut juridique figé du territoire, la colonisation comme un phénomène historique. Au-delà des diverses approches et propositions, a-t-on véritablement interrogé les permanences et les influences du phénomène colonial ? Les héritiers de l’administration coloniale eurent-ils la volonté et les moyens d’organiser le procès de la colonisation ? Ne paraît-il pas nécessaire de s’interroger sur les goulots d’étranglement que constituent, à l’expérience, les pouvoirs politiques ?

Ortega’s philosophical writings are the product of Ortega plus his circumstances, and Ortega’s circumstances were indelibly marked by conflict and violence. Produced during a period of unprecedented political and social upheaval in Spain and globally, Ortega’s philosophy promoted an agonistic and Protean view of human character and social relations. As a future-facing, change-seeking, conservative progressive, Ortega’s thought remains a paradox and his work demands reconsideration and re-evaluation by every subsequent generation.

Le développement de l’Afrique doit être envisagé à partir du secteur agricole et du monde rural. L’urgence de penser et d’impulser le développement endogène en Afrique impose justement de réfléchir sur les multiples apports de la ruralité qui est une réalité sociale complexe. Objet stimulant des travaux sur l’Afrique au cours des années 1960-1980, le village est depuis lors éclipsé par la ville et ses problèmes. Pourtant, il est le territoire de prédilection de la résilience et de l’innovation humaine. L’idée générale de cette rencontre scientifique est de montrer que le développement de l’Afrique peut être envisagé à partir des approches endogènes et singulièrement la mobilisation innovante du monde rural.

Quo vadis Provenance Research?
Primary Sources and Archival Collections in Post-Unitarian Italy
The workshop will focus on primary sources and archival collections in post-unitarian Italy, which serve as a fundamental tool for provenance research. Research projects dealing with the Italian post-unitary period up to the recent years still face the significant challenge of not only having to locate archival sources, but also of finding a way to access and consult them. The workshop aims to put this issue up for discussion and wishes to promote an open dialogue between international scholars and representatives of research institutions. The focus lies not only on traditional art historical sources such as specified libraries, photographic collections, private estates or institutional archives. It is also intended to include historical and political archives. The aim is to connect various sources and methods of archival work related to the field of provenance research and to identify potential improvements in the provision and the use of archival material (including digital data) in Italy and abroad.

We are interested in articles that shed light on the visual culture of the former Habsburg Empire and Central Europe broadly defined from the medieval period to the present. Contributions that position Austrian art practices within a wider international framework are particularly welcome. We value innovative art historical approaches, such as challenging established narratives or exploring transnational exchanges that highlight the interconnected and cross-cultural nature of the art world. The Belvedere Research Journal is also keen to feature work on artists and figures who have been historically underrepresented, with a special emphasis on women. We encourage interdisciplinary research that blends art history with methodologies from other fields, such as digital humanities, social sciences, and cultural economics.

This thematic issue of Diasporas. Circulations, Migrations, Histoire journal aims to examine mechanisms of loss and deprivation of nationality, as well as operations aimed at requalifying the boundary between nationals and non-nationals through citizenship rights, while paying close attention to the effects of these procedures on migrants’ experiences. We welcome interdisciplinary contributions that incorporate theoretical and methodological approaches from diverse fields such as law, political science, geography, anthropology, and sociology, enriching historical perspectives. Articles must adopt an empirical methodological approach. We welcome proposals that focus on non-Western contexts.

Communism and Cultural Diplomacy in the Global South (1945–1991 and Beyond)
This workshop challenges traditional East-West Cold War narratives by examining the cultural interactions between communist Europe and the Global South. We will primarily focus on art, culture, and heritage as sources of new insights into historical narratives. We ask the following questions: How can artistic expression contribute to the rethinking of historical narratives? How have political circumstances shaped artistic and cultural production, and vice versa? What were the underlying power dynamics? And what are the contemporary legacies of such interactions?
