Pour une didactique intégrative de la discipline « français » dans l’enseignement actuel

Parmi les acceptions du nom « didactique », épinglons celle-ci : ensemble des pratiques d’enseignement d’une discipline scolaire. Ces pratiques, variables dans le temps et l’espace, sont inspirées par des théories générales de l’enseignement et de l’apprentissage, en concurrence, à une époque déterminée, dans un État ou un ensemble d’États déterminé. Ce sont, bien sûr, les enseignants des écoles, des collèges et des lycées qui sont les premiers concernés par l’examen critique de ce qui se fait, ainsi que par des propositions relatives à ce qui pourrait se faire pour mieux adapter l’enseignement du français à une politique scolaire inspirée par un idéal démocratique de maitrise de la langue française. Notre ambition est de rassembler, en dépit des clivages, exhibés ou latents, entre celles et ceux qui contribuent à faire advenir une jeunesse nantie de capacités de communication verbale et d’un bagage culturel conditionnant une citoyenneté active.

Historie de l’opéra d’Avignon - Opus 2

Un théâtre dans la cité

L’Opéra Grand Avignon fêtera bientôt ses 200 ans d’existence. Afin de préparer cette commémoration, nous organisons un colloque international en deux temps, pour susciter les travaux des chercheurs de toutes disciplines pour mieux connaître l’opéra et son histoire, au cours des derniers siècles. Ce deuxième opus permet de faire le point sur les enjeux liés à ce théâtre dans la cité : nous aborderons plus spécifiquement les enjeux politiques, économiques, urbains liés à l’opéra. Comment s’inscrit l’opéra dans sa ville et dans son territoire ? Là encore il s’agira de mêler des communications en provenance de différentes disciplines et de différentes époques, pour dresser un panorama le plus large possible de l’opéra : l’édifice en son quartier, les relations avec la municipalité et autres collectivités, ses publics…

This conference aims to discuss and to provide a state of research on the role of women in decorative arts and design in France but also to shed light on an aspect of artistic creation. It aims to give an overview of the evolution and role of women in the decorative arts and design in France since the mid-19th century in order to complete a current knowledge related to an ongoing field of research in the history of art and creative industries. In this purpose, we would also propose to cross-analyze the problematic at an international level, particularly in Europe, in order to better address and deepen the issue.

The Atmospheres and Ambiences of Modernist Literature

The figure of atmosphere has emerged with increasing prominence over the course of the last twenty years as a means of reconfiguring our ways of engaging with literary texts. We propose to embark on a rereading of modernist literature with a renewed attention to the atmospheres, ambiences, or Stimmungen that modernist works seem intensely engaged in. As we reread these works of modernist literature today in the era of what Bruno Latour calls our ongoing “ecological mutation,” perhaps we may learn to patiently attune our attention to what is in the background: the atmospheres and ambiences that make our world and our situations of reading what they are and what they may become. We welcome papers that engage with atmosphere/ambience in any imaginable form in the works of modernist literature in the Anglophone world from the marginal to the canonical.

Ainsi, cent années d’images seront considérées au sein de notre étude afin d’envisager Chateaubriand dans toute sa dimension kaléidoscopique et dans la continuité du siècle.

Space and scale in missionary agency (1880–1920)

The symposium revolves around the question of the agency of the Christian missionaries and their sending organizations which have been, to varying degrees, major actors of social and cultural mutations among the people and societies they worked with. Through the diverse presentations from scholars of various geographical and academic fields, we hope to get a better understanding of the impact of European and North American Christian missions at the turn of the twentieth century, and spur greater interest on this subject.

Firearms hold profound implications for European societies, influencing international relations, the diffusion of violence, and State sovereignty. This workshop will convene researchers examining themes such as the relationship between European States and guns, global efforts to regulate arms markets, the role of firearms in changing the societal perception of violence, and the semantic nuances defining these instruments. Through exploration of diverse research methodologies, the workshop aims to highlight the significance of firearms as both a subject of scholarly inquiry and a lens for examining critical aspects of contemporary history, shedding new light on the European past – one trigger pull at a time.

A Byzantine Century

Reassessing Neo-Byzantine Style from Paris to Algiers to Tiflis – and Beyond (ca. 1800 – 1920)

In the wake of blossoming discussions on the reception history of the Middle Ages, this conference attempts to rethink the protean and eclectic term “Neo-Byzantine” from a broad perspective. We are particularly interested in the complex articulation between art historical theory, architectural and artistic practice, and the actual patronages and uses of the “Neo-Byzantine.” We invite scholars dealing with the issue from a broad chronological (1800–1920) and geographical frame, bridging Europe, North Africa, and West Asia. We especially welcome are case studies or broader reflections on the uses of “Neo-Byzantine” architecture in processes of identity and nation-building and within frameworks of orientalism and colonialism.

How do land reforms affect land access and property rights? Who are the actors of these transformations? Does such evolution contribute to the commodification and financialization of land? How do urban regulations produce informalities and affect socio-spatial dynamics? This half-day thematic seminar seeks to delve into these key questions with two roundtables. Aiming to inform today’s urban transformations through law and history, the six presentations will cover different contexts as diverse as Istanbul, Northern Italy, rural China, Madrid, and colonial Bombay, spanning from the 14th century to today.

Local communities in Austria-Hungary and beyond

“Acta Poloniae Historica”

Changes in the management of the Habsburg Empire and new technologies, expanding the circulation of social communication, accelerated the modernisation processes taking place in Central Europe. It was an area inhabited by various ethnic, national, religious and linguistic communities; they had to rework their modus vivendi and to find their place in complex networks of relations, in the context of the liberalising legal framework of the 1860s in the Austrian part of the monarchy and the tightening grip of the state on the local non-Magyar initiatives in the Hungarian part. Deep and multi-faceted socio-cultural changes were leading to new cumulations of symbolic (and political) power; new groups, termed here as local communities (political, social, religious), were gaining visibility and sought recognition, according to changing configuration of values and integration impulses. We pose the question how the new or redefined communities were formed and managed.

What counting means in an imperial and colonial situation

This conference intends to open in new ways the file of accounting and statistical approaches produced in imperial and colonial context (thematic maps, surveys, statistical series etc.) to extract all the information that they are likely to provide on societies and situations that they are supposed to illuminate. Taking into account the numerous historiographical findings, the critiques of the different numerical elements used, their racialist and normative aims, it is as much a question of being interested in the conditions of their production, whether they are visible (investigators) or invisible (interpreters , village elites), than to analyze the reactions to their production, their distribution or to specify the expectations of the sponsors and the uses to which they give rise. The conference intends to encourage the crossing of the scales mobilized by the different supports of these accounting elements, starting from individuals and up to the relations between administrations or colonial companies and the Metropolis.

Archiver et conserver ses documents de travail (XVIe-XVIIIe siècle)

Avec l’essor du concept de literacy, la « vie des écrits » a animé les récentes études historiques. Le portefeuille pourrait ajouter à ce renouvellement historiographique un outil utilisé dans tous les secteurs de la société qui renferme des documents permettant de se rapprocher au plus près du quotidien des acteurs. Brouillons, prises de notes de lecture, lettres, imprimés et autres sont des « écrits vivants » offrant la possibilité d’écrire une histoire matérielle, culturelle, sociale et politique. Suite au succès de la journée d’études « Le portefeuille sous toutes ses coutures. Archiver et conserver ses documents de travail (XVI^e-XVIII^e siècle) », la publication d’un volume collectif a été décidée. C’est ici le portefeuille comme outil de travail dans la société entière qui est envisagé : le portefeuille d’un ministre, d’un négociant, d’un artiste, d’un artisan, d’un homme de lettres ou encore d’un savant. Des propositions sur ses utilisations au XIX^e siècle seront également les bienvenues.

Qui se souvient aujourd’hui d’Amédée Méreaux ? L’homme et le musicien n’ont certes pas totalement disparu de la mémoire de Rouen, où une petite rue éloignée du centre-ville porte encore aujourd’hui son nom. Néanmoins, cet artiste n’évoque aujourd'hui plus grand chose. Pourtant, Amédée Méreaux (1802-1874) est une personnalité importante du monde musical à l’époque de Berlioz.
