  Enemy of the People, Thomas Ostermeier

  Thomas Ostermeier’s world success is patent. An Enemy of the People deals with political, social and ecological issues which lead to a public debate between stage and audience through fiction: a water contamination implies the responsibility of the authorities, who have to chose between an economic or a sanitarian resolution. Water here appears as an allegorical pretext, and even more, to question the notion of “democracy”. We would like a review of the audience’s reaction, and of the debate, especially the themes people dealt with, their involvement and how they took part during the show. Each show uses the whole fictitious machine that is particular to the play and at the same time deals with the “reality” of each place, people. Our aim is to produce a collection of articles for a publication in 2016. Please take note that the first edition of the collection will be in French, so all papers written in English will be translated.

  Reconstruction and Resettlement in the Wake of War

  This two-day workshop will examine the interlinked processes of post-war urban reconstruction and population resettlement. Extending chronologically from the American Civil War to the mid-twentieth century, and covering a broad array of geographic locations, from North America to Europe, the Middle East and East Asia, it explores how war-torn urban environments have been rebuilt and repopulated. From the mid-nineteenth century, towns and cities increasingly became the pivots of large-scale military action, and urban residents from Atlanta to Paris, Warsaw and Tokyo felt the full force of modern weaponry. But as destruction and displacement gave way to reconstruction and resettlement, the residents of these war-afflicted urban centres faced further challenges. By exploring how they returned and reconstructed their shattered homes, this workshop seeks to understand the long-term effects of conflict on the social dynamics of communities.

L’ancienneté, la constance et de l’intensité des échanges culturels entre les deux nations sont en effet largement antérieurs à la mondialisation culturelle ultra-contemporaine. Cette singularité inscrite dans la longue durée permet de mettre en perspective les phénomènes contemporains tout en les interrogeant.

  Art history for artists: interactions between scholarly discourse and artistic practice in the 19th century

  The conference seeks to examine the shaping of art history as a discipline during the 19^th century in relation to artistic training and exchanges between artists and scholars. The development of art history has been associated with an array of socio-political and economic factors such as the formation of a bourgeois public, the politics of national identity and state legitimacy or the needs of an expanding art market. This conference aspires to explore yet another, less studied dimension: the extent to which the historical study of art was also rooted in an intention to inform contemporary artistic production.

  Deprovincialising history, reorientating philosophy

  Depuis plusieurs décennies, la notion même de philosophie de l’histoire a donné lieu à des critiques radicales élaborées tant dans les centres du système-monde que dans le Sud global. Définies comme « détachements théoriques d'idéologies pratiques […] dont la fonction essentielle consiste à reproduire les rapports de production des sociétés de classe » (Althusser, Éléments d'auto-critique) ou comme vecteurs d'une idéologie historiciste et eurocentrique gommant les différences historiques entre l’Occident et le reste du monde (Chakrabarty, Provincialiser l'Europe), les philosophies de l'histoire semblent avoir perdu toute légitimité.

  Le cycle précédent du séminaire du laboratoire Arts, Littératures, Échanges, Frontières (ALEF) sur l'enquête, alors même que l'enquête était abordée comme modèle qui fonctionne, a mis en avant le fait que, bien souvent, ce qui intéresse l'art dans ce processus est son impossibilité à atteindre une résolution, ou bien ce qu'il laisse derrière lui, voire ses dérives. C'est la raison pour laquelle nous souhaitons, dans cette deuxième session, interroger plus spécifiquement ce que font les artistes, les créateurs, les auteurs de ce qui déborde l'enquête, comprendre ce que l'art fait de ces opérations échouées – voire questionner la possibilité de l'art de faire échouer les enquêtes.

Elle est indispensable au fonctionnement de l’entreprise dès lors que celle-ci atteint un certain seuil d’effectif. Ce colloque présentera les réflexions de chercheurs concernant l'évolution de la place dévolue à la négociation collective en droit du travail.

  Cette journée d’étude vise à interroger l’organisation des déplacements diplomatiques en Europe du XVI^e au XVIII^e siècle en croisant les sources et les approches de l’histoire économique, de l’histoire de la culture matérielle et de l’histoire de la diplomatie. De leurs préparations à leur mise en œuvre et aux réactions suscitées, tous les aspects matériels de ces voyages pourront donc être pris en compte : transport, itinéraire, sécurité, logement, alimentation, préséances, vêtements, décor, festivités, etc. La perception de ces conditions matérielles par les ambassadeurs, les membres des familles princières et leur suite auront également leur place dans les thématiques abordées.

En effet l’évaluation du risque de récidive n’appartient ni au champ sanitaire ni au champ pénitentiaire dès lors qu’elle suppose une connaissance globale et exhaustive de la personne concernée.

  Powers of Imagination. Historical Approach

  The concept of imagination is today seen as as a legitimate object of study, having long been discredited by scientific research. However, in modern and contemporary literature, imagination is generally considered in a negative way, as a mental faculty that can cause disease, error, illusion or sin. By cons, its role was very important, because the imagination formed the necessary link between body and soul. So that was the preferred place to act to perform bodily healing as well as spiritual. We would go against this idea of imagination by studying intellectual tradition and alternative and misunderstood practice. Since the XIIth and XIIIth centuries until the early XIXth century, thinkers and practitioners from a diverse set of disciplines, expressing themselves from different institutional positions, supported the idea that imagination has great powers on the body and on the body and mind of others.
