A Summer School for the Study of Women and Temporalities in Early Modern Europe
The goal of this summer school is to help doctoral students develop an interdisciplinary reflection on the intersection between gender and time in the early-modern period. With the help of invited keynote speakers, workshops around secondary literature, primary written and visual sources (notably from the Palais des Beaux-Arts’s collections), and discussions around the candidates’ research, we aim to foster interest in this framework and complexify approaches to gender studies and key themes such as the question of agency or the inscription of women in history.

Petrus Hispanus' Tractatus : Logic and Philosophy from the Middle Ages to Modernity
Petrus Hispanus’ Tractatus, or Summulae logicales, composed in the mid-thirteenth century, came to occupy a central place in the study of logic from the late thirteenth century onward. Commented in several studia and then by Buridan at the University of Paris, it was gradually adopted across European universities and remained in use until the seventeenth century, surviving in hundreds of manuscripts and hundreds of printed editions.

Les membres du centre « Pratiques médiévales de l’écrit – PraME » organisent une école d’été consacrée à la diplomatique. Science fondamentale de l’histoire, la diplomatique constitue le socle sur lequel s’appuie toute recherche fondée sur l’exploitation de la documentation archivistique médiévale et moderne. Bien maîtrisée, cette discipline technique doit aider l’historien à affiner sa critique des sources, en lui permettant de mieux appréhender la diversité typologique des actes à sa disposition, de mieux comprendre les processus d’élaboration et de transmission des documents qu’il étudie, d’en décrypter le discours et les mécanismes de validation.

Thinking High and Low: Elites, Experts, and the Masses in the Early Reformation
The summer school highlights the dynamic interplay between “high” and “low” forms of thinking and between elite norm-setting and the appropriation, adaptation or contestation of those norms in real-life situations and historical events. By integrating inputs from theology, philosophy and history, along with intellectual, linguistic and social perspectives, the programme presents the transition from the late Middles Ages to the Reformation as a complex reordering of normative structures and cultural hierarchies. It invites the participants to reconsider the period through the lens of how ideas moved between, and were transformed across, different levels of thought, language and society.

Droits, travail, activités économiques des femmes dans les villes de l’Europe moderne
La semaine de formation doctorale, organisée dans le cadre de l’ANR DÉFI, (https://anrdefi.hypotheses.org/presentation-du-projet) s’adresse aux doctorant·e·s, post- doctorant·e·s et jeunes docteur·e·s travaillant sur les activités économiques des femmes dans les villes de l’Europe moderne. Les matinées seront consacrées à des leçons et les après‑midi aux présentations et discussions des travaux des participant·e·s. Les langues de travail seront le français et l’anglais. Les travaux commenceront le 7 septembre au matin et se termineront le 10 après-midi. L’organisation prend en charge l’hospitalité (trois ou quatre nuits) et les repas, mais non les frais de voyage.

Organised in partnership with the Fondation Afric’Avenir, this edition seeks to rethink the divide between the formal and informal economy through a decolonial comparative legal approach. It also aims to contribute to the consolidation of a decolonial comparative law community across the African continent and beyond.

Son existence entraîne, par antithèse, l’existence d’une sphère informelle, qui échappe ou tente d’échapper à toute forme d’organisation ou de contrôle.

Mapping the personal and the collective through history of art and the humanities, from Impressionism to the present day
The Seine has shaped the history of the Impressionist movement, which, in turn, left a lasting mark on the land. The research framework of this programme places the focus on this influential geographical backdrop, as part of a broader reflection on our regions. Housing traditions, ways of life, social structures, land uses, and the impact of agricultural and industrial development on the landscape are just some of the lines of research that require further study about Impressionism. This summer school aims to open up new perspectives through cross-disciplinary collaboration while experimenting with scales of analysis, to reflect on the experience of land from the most personal to the most universal.
