Special issue of “Diasporas”
This special issue of Diasporas. Circulations, Migrations, Histoire explores the arrival, transit, and settlement of refugees from Europe, their interaction with civil societies and state institutions, and the evolution of various refugee regimes in the the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in the 19th and 20th centuries. The role of the imperial, national, and colonial governments will be of particular interest in order to understand the different political factors at stake for the interactions between refugees and the local societies. The issue seeks to contribute to and facilitate the discussion between different fields of research, such as the historiography on expatriate communities, humanitarian organizations, forced migration in MENA, and (post)colonial history. Integrating the experiences of displacement from Europe into the larger question of the transformation of refugee/migration policies in MENA and beyond, the issue’s ambition is to offers new insights into European and Middle Eastern history.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has spread worldwide since 2019, originating from China, draws attention to a recurrent phenomenon over the centuries, that of epidemics and transmissible diseases. Firstly, it is important to define the terms of the subject. An endemic disease is one that persists permanently in a given region, such as malaria. An epidemic occurs when a contagious disease affects a large number of people at a specific time. A pandemic occurs when the disease rapidly spreads to a significant portion of the planet.

Overridden infrastructure. Governance and mobilities in African cities
“EchoGéo” Journal
Over the past decades, many cities have been developing new transport infrastructure and mobility plans. In the Global South, and specifically in Africa, these past years have been synonymous with multiple attempts to modernize mobility systems. Yet those models of mobility, along with the infrastructure that sustains them, are quickly overridden by unexpected uses, new technologies, new vehicles and means of mobility which may contradict these plans. Supposedly new means of transport of people and goods appear, which use recent technology, business models and infrastructure in a way that cannot be predicted by urban planners. Our purpose is to collect contributions that offer different examples of and viewpoints on planning, governance, actual uses of different types of infrastructure and forms of mobility across the African continent.

Artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM): Power and Territorialization in the Global South

This thematic dossier of EchoGéo explores artisanal and small-scale mining through the prism of the geography of power. The craze for artisanal mining has to be seen in the context of poverty, as a desirable prospect despite the precarious conditions it offers and the great risks it exposes workers to. Scientific research and debate on artisanal mining have largely focused on these issues, often compartmentalised according to the regions studied and/or specific minerals. The aim of this issue is to examine the differences and similarities in the profound transformations taking place as a result of the expansion of this activity almost everywhere in the world, by approaching this diversity through the relations of power and territorialisation surrounding this activity.

Building Peace: Transitional Justice in the Early Modern World
How to reconcile former enemies in the wake of civil conflict and prevent a return to violence? Transitional justice has become a ubiquitous concept for understanding peacebuilding in the modern world. This conference approaches the early modern period as a particularly productive field for the wider study of peacebuilding and transitional justice. How exactly did post-war societies before the modern age deal with the challenge of peacebuilding? What particular transitional justice strategies did they develop? And how effective were they in achieving peace and reconciliation, either on a local or national level? As such, this conference aims to evaluate how the study of transitional justice can reshape our understanding of the early modern world – not just as a period of incessant conflict, but also a laboratory for peacebuilding efforts.

Ce colloque vise à valoriser le dynamisme et les représentations culturelles du peuple Koyaka. Partant, il n’en demeure pas moins un moyen de promotion des cultures africaines. C’est pourquoi tous les thèmes en rapports avec la représentation culturelles des peuples africains seront bien accueillis. Il s’agit, dans l’esprit de ce colloque, de mettre en relief les parcs économiques que pourraient avoir la culture dans une perspective qualité sur le développement local. En un mot, il sera question aussi de montrer les avantages économiques de la culture et du tourisme sur la qualité de vie des populations locale.

Le capital économique dans tous ses états (RT5)
Le RT 5 de l’Association française de sociologie organise deux journées d’études autour de la notion de capital économique. À la suite des travaux de Pierre Bourdieu, la notion de capital, empruntée aux sciences économiques, a acquis une place centrale en sociologie. Déclinée en différentes espèces, elle renvoie à une grande diversité́ de ressources qui contribuent à définir la position sociale des individus, qu’il s’agisse de capitaux spécifiques aux différents champs (scientifique, religieux, scolaire...) ou de ceux supposés « agissants dans chacun d’eux », tels que le capital économique, le capital culturel et le capital social. Or, le capital économique - souvent ramené́ à une simple mesure chiffrée de la richesse monétaire - est le moins investigué sociologiquement. L’objectif de ces journées d'étude est donc de nourrir la sociologie des classes sociales, à partir d’un usage réflexif de la notion de capital économique.

Esthétiques anarchistes : l’art et le non-gouvernable
Revue Turbulences n° 2
Par « anarchisme », on entendra ici le refus général du « préjugé gouvernemental », de l’idée que gouverner et être gouverné soient indispensables et que toute conduite, individuelle ou collective, ait à s’inscrire dans l’asymétrie du commander et de l’obéir. Si l’ingouvernable se définit par sa résistance et son opposition directes au gouvernement, le non-gouvernable désigne quant à lui une zone d’étrangeté et d’extériorité radicale. L’objectif principal de ce numéro de la revue Turbulences consisterait alors à relever en art les traces et les manifestations du non-gouvernable, les formes de son déploiement artistique, en les envisageant aussi bien pour elles-mêmes que comme lieux de recharge de l’ingouvernable, comme appelant, ne serait-ce qu’implicitement, à des actes de résistance et de désobéissance concrets.

Xe Congrès International de Phraséologie et Parémiologie – Phrasis
L’objectif du Xe Congrès international de l’Association Phrasis est de partager les derniers développements en matière d’analyse des erreurs dans le domaine des études phraséologiques et parémiologiques. Seront acceptées les propositions qui abordent l’erreur sous de multiples facettes et perspectives (linguistique, enseignement/apprentissage des langues, psycholinguistique, neurolinguistique, etc.) et qui soient valables pour parvenir à une vision globale de son concept. Des contributions empiriques, théoriques et méthodologiques seront donc les bienvenues, y compris celles à caractère interdisciplinaire, qui peuvent éclairer le rôle de l’erreur dans les productions phraséologiques et parémiologiques d’une ou plusieurs langues.

Études, représentations et usages du Moyen Âge dans la société québécoise
Le colloque « Le médiévalisme au Québec : études, représentations et usages du Moyen Âge dans la société québécoise » sera l’occasion d’explorer la réception et l’actualisation du Moyen Âge dans la société québécoise à travers l’étude de ses manifestations matérielles et idéelles. Il a pour objectif de repérer et d’identifier les caractères originaux du médiévalisme québécois, à la fois pour comprendre les logiques sociales qui président à leur existence et pour tenter de mettre au jour des mouvements de fond de la culture et de la société québécoises. Cet événement est ouvert à toutes les disciplines (histoire, littérature, histoire de l’art, philosophie, architecture, etc.) par lesquelles on peut appréhender la réception matérielle (collections muséales, fonds archivistiques, paysage seigneurial, architecture néogothique) et idéelle (discours littéraire, politique, religieux) du passé médiéval au Québec et au Canada français depuis 1867.

Quelle place pour les infirmiers dans la santé et sécurité au travail
A l’heure où le ministère de la Santé et de la Prévention français réfléchit à la réingénierie de la formation des infirmiers, la place de ces professionnels autour des enjeux de santé et sécurité doit-être interrogée. En effet, alors que la France est pointée du doigt comme mauvaise élève de l’Europe en terme d’accidents mortels, un 4e plan santé au travail a vu le jour en 2021 pour tenter de remédier au nombreux accidents du travail. Ce plan, qui se termine en 2025, a défini des priorités de prévention, d’amélioration des conditions du travail ou encore de renforcement de l’accompagnement de proximité. Ainsi, il laisse entrevoir toutes les opportunités pour les infirmiers de prendre place dans ces dispositifs.

From May 8 to 9 2025, the second international conference “The Long Life of Ephemeral Literature” will take place in Geneva. Geneva, an important city for the history of European printing, holds several collections of French and English printed sheets, Spanish pliegos de cordel and Brazilian prints. The aim of this conference is to make known the richness of these collections, to discuss the research currently being carried out in Western Europe and to consider this production from a transnational perspective with a broad chronological scale.
