Political violence, the politics of violence?
The example of Mediterranean political elites, 19th-20th centuries
Ce colloque, organisé dans le cadre de l'ANR ICEM, a pour but d'étudier l'attitude des élites et la place de la violence dans le monde méditerranéen à l'époque contemporaine. Il s'agira de vérifier l'hypothèse d'une violence politique poropre à cette zone, en s'attachant à analyser les réactions de ces élites en situation de crise (nationale, régionale ou locale), leurs utilisations de la violence (manipulation, canalisation, évitement...), ainsi que l'éventuelle spécificité des cultures politiques méridionales dans ce domaine.

Production, representations and reception in the Mediterranean
Le développement et le succès des séries télévisées turques constitue un phénomène en Méditerranée depuis la fin des années 1990. Les genres se sont diversifiés, le secteur « fiction » des chaînes turques s’est enrichi de dizaines de nouveaux titres, le budget alloué aux séries a considérablement augmenté, et leurs caractéristiques techniques ainsi que les performances des acteurs ont gagné en qualité. D’abord essentiellement représentées par des formats de type « soap » tournés en studio, les séries turques ont commencé à être tournées dans la rue ou dans d’immenses décors en plein air fabriqués sur mesure. D’abord circonscrit à une audience nationale, le phénomène a maintenant conquis un public au niveau régional : les séries turques s’exportent désormais au Moyen-Orient, au Maghreb, dans les Balkans et en Asie centrale toujours demandeurs d’alternatives aux productions états-uniennes ou européennes devenues trop chères, ou aux telenovelas parfois éloignées de certaines références culturelles locales.

Facts and Values in Aesthetics: Contemporary Stakes and Approaches
In a text entitled The Collapse of the Fact/Value Dichotomy and Other Essays (2004), Hilary Putnam argues convincingly against a classic opposition which does not serve philosophical reflection positively. Putnam’s analysis mostly focuses on the theory and practice of knowledge, but one can legitimately extend it to other fields, starting with that of aesthetics, which sooner or later is confronted with the question of whether one defends or rejects the dichotomy. Keeping or rejecting it implies reasons to do so, but often these reasons remain implicit, most especially in aesthetics.

Institut méditerranéen de recherches avancées (Aix-Marseille Université)
The post of Scientific Director of the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Research, IMéRA Foundation (Aix-Marseille University), will be vacant as of 1st March 2014. A member of the French Network of Institutes for Advanced Study (RFIEA), IMéRA offers 5- to 10-month residency schemes to researchers and artists to help them develop cross-discipline-oriented research projects in connection with Aix-Marseille University (AMU) teams and laboratories. The Scientific Director assists the President and the General Director of the Foundation for a two-year, renewable mandate. His/her mission statement is to work in agreement with the General Director to devise and implement the scientific activity programme.

From cacophony to music: sound perception in ancient societies
The challenge facing the second international round table organised within this programme is to deconstruct the idea of a temporal and geographic universality of aural perception that is the same for all cultures. On the contrary, every society can be defined and distinguished from others through a particular relationship with sound. Thus, aural perception is above all a cultural construct. This premise has, however, never been applied to the ancient world. Therefore, a comparative study involving the four great civilisations of the ancient Mediterranean over a period running from the 3rd millennium BC until the 4th century AD could lead to the establishing of a geography and chronology of the way sound was thought about through an analysis of the manner in which it was named, described and experienced by the Ancients.

Pierre Leriche), les travaux fondamentaux sur l’histoire et l’archéologie de la Méditerranée (dans les séances « Grèce de l’Ouest, Grèce de l’Est », dirigées par Mme Mathilde Simon-Mahé, Mme Rossella Pace et M. Stéphane Verger) et la méthodologie des recherches (dans les formations « Transferts culturels : mode d’emploi », proposées par Mme Anca Dan et M. François Queyrel).
