Cultural and Creative Industries of Childhood and Youth
VIIIth Interdisciplinary Conference on Child and Teen Consumption
The interdisciplinary conference « Child and Teen Consumption » aims to facilitate in-depth dialogue between researchers from various disciplines: management, psychology, sociology, information and communication, anthropology, history, educational sciences, law, etc. Whilst the 8th conference will aim to continue interdisciplinary research and dialogue on broad themes related to children and young people as consumers, the theme of the 2018 conference will be « Cultural and Creative Industries of Childhood and Youth » in order to reflect its location in Angoulême and the growing research and public policy interest in this topic. The conference aims to highlight research in this domaine and invites producers of cultural material to bring their views to the debate.

Publicity, space and time (Europe, 17th to 19th c.)
Although bankruptcy is a rather exceptional situation in the life of a merchant, it has explanatory power for routines of economic stakeholders. Considering the long, non-uniform and unsteady transition from merchant capitalism to industrial and financial capitalism, we suggest to start a dialog between modernistes and contemporanéistes. The workshop focuses on the various forms of contextualizing business failure and puts forward three major research axes: Covering and uncovering/secrecy and publicity; economic space and area of jurisdiction; temporal narratives of (in)solvency.

Depuis longtemps sujet à controverses, le rôle des corporations dans la société d’Ancien Régime a depuis une quinzaine d’années été réévalué, en particulier pour ce qui concerne le processus de fabrication des biens manufacturés, dont l’organisation collective du travail a assurément permis la complexification technique. Concomitante de profondes mutations commerciales, l’incorporation des activités marchandes n’a pas (ou peu) fait l’objet d’une telle réflexion, et quand bien même cela a pu être le cas, on n’a guère examiné ses résonances concrètes dans les champs économiques, politiques et sociaux où elle se manifeste.

There is more to space than rocket science. Historians, diplomats, economists, law students, political scientists and sociologists have all contributed to our understanding of the space age and its impact on our societies over the past decades. Sixty years on from the placing of the first human-made object in orbit around Earth, space is now an integral part of our daily lives. Space science and technology are projects for the whole of humankind, reaching not only outside Earth’s atmosphere, but also beyond our Solar System. While the technological and scientific challenges of working, living and travelling in space motivate students to pursue such studies, the impact of space activities on our lives on Earth, on relations between nations and organisations, and our collective recent history, provides fertile ground for students and scholars in the humanities to take up space-related subjects.

Turgot: globalisation, science and economy in the Enlightenment
Questionner les dichotomies traditionnelles entre « théories » et « pratiques » économiques, et, plus généralement, entre « histoire des sciences économiques » et « histoire économique » : tel est l’enjeu des journées d’étude Turgot : mondialisation, science et économie au siècle des Lumières. Le renouvellement du sujet est rendu possible par la mise à disposition récente d’un fonds d’une richesse exceptionnelle : les archives de la famille de l’économiste, intendant et ministre Turgot (1727-1781), récemment acquises par l’État grâce au mécénat de la Banque de France et conservées aux Archives nationales. Ces papiers permettent de réinscrire ce questionnement dans les pratiques sociales, administratives et culturelles de l’activité scientifique au XVIIIe siècle.

Le thème proposé cherche à permettre la constitution d’un dossier centré sur l’histoire du droit des affaires, qui ne se contente pas de mobiliser le droit et l’histoire, mais qui fasse largement appel aux savoirs économiques, managériaux, sociologiques ou bien encore géographiques. Il s’agirait en l’occurrence d’offrir un questionnement qui envisage la longue durée (du XIIe au XXe siècle) sans limitation spatiale, afin de pouvoir appréhender la variété des réponses juridiques apportées aux problèmes du transport de l’argent et des marchandises, à travers les principaux enjeux suivants : les instruments juridiques permettant de faire voyager les capitaux et les marchandises ; la fluctuation de la valeur de l’argent et des marchandises d’un endroit à l’autre ; les risques du voyage de l’argent et des marchandises ; les motivations et l’organisation du voyage ; l’intervention des pouvoirs publics dans le voyage.
