The sixth conference of the european network for the philosophy of the social sciences (ENPOSS)
The European Network for the Philosophy of the Social Sciences (ENPOSS) invites contributions to its 6th Conference to be held in Krakow in September of 2017 and organized by the Department of Philosophy of the Cracow University of Economics and the Copernicus Center for Interdisciplinary Studies. Contributions from all areas within the philosophy of the social sciences are encouraged. Moreover, contributions from both philosophers and social scientists are welcome.

The history of sciences, the history of text
As in previous years, we will study: How sources bear the mark of the environments in which they were produced. We will ask the question of how the documents attest knowledge. We will be interested in the history of writing by compilation. We will carry out research on the organization that the actors have given to the recorded knowledge, looking at the parts in which they have structured their texts.

The history and philosophy of mathematics
The seminar is the meeting point between different SPHERE (Science, philosophie, histoire) teams that are interested in mathematics. It fosters dialogue between philosophers and historians of mathematics while focusing on textual sources. Speakers are encouraged to make their sources available to the participants.

Ecology, religions and spiritualities: from socio-environmental conflicts to cosmopolitics
This session aims to discuss, from a socio-anthropology and a political philosophy of religion, the link between ecology and religion as they have already been addressed in Religion et écologie (Hervieu-Leger, 1993) and Nature et religions (Bertina, Carnac, Fauches et Gervais, 2013). It aims at analysing the relationship between ecology and religion, emphasizing the political dimension, and more specifically the conflictual one, of this encounter guided by divergent interests or representations.

IFRIS 2016 -2017 Seminar
Dans ce séminaire, nous entendons discuter des processus contemporains de mise en crise de situations et problèmes hétérogènes, et la façon dont, ainsi, la notion de crise en vient à dominer leur gouvernement (crise bancaire, énergétique, environnementale, sanitaire, alimentaire, financière, catastrophes, etc.). Pour traiter de ces questions le séminaire a pour vocation d’élargir et susciter le débat en croisant une variété de cas, disciplines (philosophie, anthropologie, science politique, sociologie, économie etc.) et perspectives théoriques et faciliter la montée en généralité.

Ce séminaire pluri-disicplinaire porte sur les questions philosophiques et éthiques portées par le courant transhumaniste. Le séminaire, composé d'un groupe pluridisciplinaire d'universitaires se concentre sur trois axes de recherche. En premier lieu, il s'agit de penser les questions liées à la subjectivité (philosophie de l'esprit, conscience, intelligence articifielle). En second lieu, les enjeux sociaux et politiques (biopolitique, démocratie, droits de l'homme, démocratie, progressisme/conservatisme, libertarianisme, néo-libéralisme). Enfin, la généalogie du courant transhumaniste est étudiée sous ses différents aspects historiques, économiques, sociologiques et philosophiques.

History and Philosophy of Chemistry
The philosophy of chemistry is a little known reflection domain, expanding, opening up new opportunities for reflection on science and technology, often different and complementary of the perspectives opened by the philosophy of physics, biology and mathematics. This seminar will, in particular, be a place for exchanges between historians, philosophers, chemists, scientists from diverse backgrounds, students and anyone interested in the subject. It aims to promote dialogue between philosophers and historians and give voice to different historical and philosophical approaches in respect of their singularities.

This monthly seminar will aim to invite researchers to come and present their work in progress or recently published that address the “Arab mathematics”, understood in a broad sense to be studied not only mathematics itself, but science “mathematized” of the era, such as astronomy, optics and static; Furthermore, we do not restrict themselves to only written in Arabic mathematics, but we can address their writings in other languages extensions, like Latin, Hebrew and Farsi.

This seminar aims to reflect on the place of history of technical knowledge through the study of technical collections in their most concrete aspects (construction, classification, display devices, catering) while incorporating these artifacts to wider prospects, on the role of materiality and gesture in research and in the transmission of knowledge. The central theme of the seminar is the arts of making and sensory experience, designed as a participant of intellection process and the construction of subjectivity, in the past as today.

La journée d’études du 12 janvier 2017 veut prolonger le cycle de séminaires Chiffres privés, chiffres publics (2013-2016) autour de la question de l’histoire de l’élaboration, de la construction et des usages des chiffres privés et publics dans leurs interrelations de l’époque moderne à la période contemporaine. L’interrogation portera sur les relations réciproques entre les chiffres émanant d’acteurs privés et les chiffres d’origine ou de diffusion publiques. Cela inclut en particulier les multiples formes de transferts ou de circulation entre sphère publique et sphère privée, qu’il s’agisse de la manière dont les acteurs privés rendent (partiellement, sélectivement ou totalement) publics des chiffres élaborés dans un cadre privé ou à l’inverse, des modalités de réemploi des chiffres de source privée par des acteurs publics.

Nous proposons un séminaire qui interroge le lien entre incorporation et conflit à travers l’exemple de l’alimentation. Les comportements alimentaires montrent aujourd’hui une capacité à canaliser et à mettre en scène des conflits qui, partout en Europe, émergent et se déplacent très vite à partir de domaines très différents : de la critique antisystème à la dissension politique, religieuse et économique, de la mise en cause des distinctions de genre à celle de la médecine conventionnelle. Ces conflits incorporés constituent alors une source d’inventivité, collective et individuelle : nous prolongeons ainsi une tradition de recherche de l’université de Strasbourg qui fait du corps l’analyseur des pratiques réflexives et créatrices des individus et un des leviers qu’ils utilisent pour agir sur la société en la transformant.

Toutes deux ont en commun de reposer sur des avancées techniques déterminantes et d'avoir fécondé les représentations contemporaines. Le XIXe siècle voit en effet, dans la plupart des pays occidentaux, l'entrée dans la culture médiatique et l'invention d'une presse de masse, reposant sur les progrès conjoints de la démocratie, de l'alphabétisation, des moyens de transport, de communication et des techniques d'impression.

In the workshop. Material, form and knowledge of artistic work (13th-19th centuries)
En confrontant l’histoire de l’art aux autres sciences sociales et à l’expertise des sciences de la conservation et de la restauration, on interrogera les formes du travail collectif, la construction de la valeur, l’élaboration et la transmission de savoirs et de savoir-faire dans les pratiques artistiques. L’atelier sera ainsi le terrain d’expérimentation pour une archéologie matérielle, visuelle et intellectuelle de l’art. Le séminaire proposera des études de cas, menées à partir de travaux en cours, qui seront mises en perspective tout au long d’une enquête historiographique sur la notion d’atelier et les conditions de l’innovation, entre arts et savoirs.

Ces troisièmes journées d’études seront consacrées à la place des techniques dans les études d’épistémologie historique. Il s’agira d’explorer cette thématique d’un point de vue méthodologique et d’approfondir différents cas d’étude de transformations techniques et technologiques.
