Deuxièmes rencontres internationales de l'art et du design

Appel à contribution. Les deuxièmes Rencontres internationales de l’art et du design, organisées par l’École supérieure d’art et de design de Reims, auront cette année pour thème l’autoproduction. Mettant en cause des modèles de développement, de consommation et de représentation de l’industrie à grande échelle, de plus en plus de designers choisissent – ou sont contraints - de se (ré)approprier le territoire de la production. Diverses et variées, leurs démarches se posent comme des systèmes d’adaptation à la crise économique et industrielle de ces dernières années, aussi bien que comme des prises de positions éthiques, esthétiques et politiques. Ces Rencontres seront l’occasion de circonscrire les enjeux théoriques et plastiques de l’autoproduction dans le contexte socioéconomique et culturel actuel.

Le séminaire « Semiosis and education », financé conjointement par la PESGB (Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain) et l’Université de Cergy-Pontoise, est organisé dans le cadre des travaux d’un réseau international ayant pour objet les liens entre sémiotique et éducation. Le séminaire qui aura lieu le 3 octobre 2011 fait suite à une première rencontre, organisée en octobre 2008 à Gand, et s’appuie sur un ensemble de travaux de recherche produits depuis plusieurs années.

The Vatican Film Library and its journal, Manuscripta, annually host the Saint Louis Conference on Manuscript Studies. The conference, known familiarly as the Manuscripta Conference, has no set theme and serves as a general forum for manuscript scholars to meet and discuss their work with colleagues. Each year a distinguished scholar is invited to deliver the Fr. Lowrie J. Daly, S.J. Memorial Lecture on Manuscript Studies. Topics addressed at the conference range from Antiquity through the early modern period and include, but are not limited to: Paleography, Illumination, Binding, Library History, Textual Criticism, Codicology, Book Production, Diplomatics, Reading and Literacy, Manuscript Cataloguing.

In September 2011, Porto will be the stage for an International Conference & International Summer University under the theme Borders, Displacement and Creation. Questioning the Contemporary. It will be focusing on the encounter between Contemporary Political Philosophy and Aesthetics, with the contribution of several scientific fields within the Social Sciences and the Humanities. The Conference will be held on the 29th, 30th, 31st August, 3rd and 4th September at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, and on the 1st and 2nd September at Serralves Auditorium. For this Main Session at the EAUH 11th International Conference (Prague, August 29 - September 1, 2012), we invite papers that bring a transnational or comparative methodology to bear on planning postwar cities in Europe and North America. We are interested in how ideas about planning were exchanged across national borders and how planning in turn shaped trans-Atlantic shifts in political ideologies. Paper topics can range from specific urban interventions, such as the provision of housing, to the way cities fit into broader programs of social reform, Keynesianism, or market-oriented competition. We encourage contributions from all disciplines.

The Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research will award several short-term fellowships for visiting researchers in 2012. The GEI’s fellowship programme supports research on textbooks and other educational media. Fellowships aim to provide both young and established academics and textbook authors with the opportunity to use the extensive international textbook collection in its specialist library, conducting comparative studies, exchanging ideas and discussing their findings with the academic staff of the Institute.

Débats, méthodes et terrains d’histoire (http://afriques.revues.org) est la seule revue d’histoire à être consacrée à l’Afrique dite « ancienne », c’est-à-dire antérieure au XXe siècle. Pour son cinquième numéro thématique, prévu pour la fin de l’année 2012, Afriques lance un appel à contribution sur le thème : « Manger et boire en Afrique avant le XXe siècle. Cuisines, échanges, constructions sociales ». Published on line since April 2010 (http://afriques.revues.org), Afriques. Débats, méthodes et terrains d’histoire is the only journal devoted to the history of Africa before the 20th century. For its fifth thematic issue, scheduled for late 2012, Afriques is calling for papers on: “Eating and drinking in Africa before the 20th century: Cuisines, exchanges, social constructions”.

Troisième séminaire de la série « Analyse économique du droit et des politiques publiques »

Participants to the November 24 2010 session on Impact Assessment and the Scientific Committee of the Seminar have suggested that, broadly speaking, topics revolving around corruption, the rule of law and good governance would be of interest for the next session. We feel that, within this array, corruption stricto sensu and the broader set of public agents behaviours generally described as characterizing a situation of “conflict of interest” may be a good focus. The day will focus, more precisely, on the analysis of the determinants of corruption, and the impact of corruption on economic growth. Certain major concepts such as agency or transparency should be part of the analysis and debate in order to open a broad discussion on the rationale and efficiency of anti-corruption policies.
