The organizers invite the submission of any proposal for setting out the contribution of media (traditional and new media) to the political construction of community, ethnic and national identities in one of these four areas. Papers, which can be comparative or not, focusing on a particular geographical area or not can give a theoretical or empirical answer to the question: “media: actors or instruments in the construction of community, ethnic and national identities?”

The Atlantic World of Anthony Benezet
There is renewed interest today in the study of early North American antislavery, and thus Quakers. Yet the French Atlantic dimension of Quakerism has been left unexplored. We thus found it useful to focus on the Atlantic world of Huguenot Anthony Benezet, a mere schoolteacher and the first antislavery propagandist of modern times. Benezet was born in Saint-Quentin in 1713, then left for France eventually to settle in Philadelphia where he converted to the Quaker faith. His antislavery ideas later had a major influence on Quaker communities in North America, but also other antislavery activists on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean at the end of the eighteenth century.

Multidisciplinary approaches for Latin America
La sécurité humaine et la sécurité environnementale sont des sujets d'actualité et d’importance dans la géopolitique mondiale, et l'Amérique latine n’est pas l’exception. Toutefois, ces sujets ont été peu examinés de façon empirique dans des régions frontalières par rapport aux dynamiques institutionnelles régionales et aux régimes régionaux de sécurité humaine. Dans ces conditions, les journées LABEL 2013 visent à explorer ces interactions en réunissant trois différentes analyses disciplinaires, concrètement pour la région latino-américaine : la sécurité humaine et environnementale, les études frontalières et les études sur l'intégration régionale.

This call for papers is for a multidisciplinary day conference on the subject of "Games and Exclusion" with a main focus on electronic and video games in social work approaches to socially excluded groups and populations. Reading English-language Arts and Literature with the Later Lacan
Lacanian analysis of literature and the arts has not been in vogue in France for some time now. Following the publication of Écrits in 1966, there was a period of analytic fascination with the imaginary capture of the mirror phase and its intersection with the structures of the symbolic in both literary and film studies. Since the 1980s, academic engagement with Lacanian theory in the cultural field has been in a slump, and this for several reasons: the reputed difficulty of Lacan’s style as apprehended through Ecrits, the opposition of numerous feminist critics, and the general decline of theory in the field of literary studies. Today, in light of the growing force of scientistic conceptions of the human subject (at the level of intelligence, behaviour, reproduction, the limits of the body, mortality), Lacanian theory finds renewed relevance in its unwavering postulate of the subject as singular, unique and incalculable, insusceptible to scientific conclusiveness.

The objective of this colloquium will be to debate and analyze politics and the political by means of the different forms of language, discourse and practices that intervene in the construction of the social world. There are myriad examples of this in Chilean history. Taking history, political philosophy and political economy as the starting points, we invite doctoral candidates, researchers and academics to participate in this truly trans disciplinary space of debate, reflection and feedback whose goal is not only to unite a community of researchers into “the political” in the republican period but also to select the best works presented for a future publication in the format of a collective work or a special dossier of a scientific publication.

L'éthique et la philosophie comme critique et intervention sociales aujourd'hui
La philosophie et l’éthique sont pour partie, depuis leur apparition, des entreprises critiques à portée sociale et politique, dont les modalités et les finalités varient selon les configurations du pouvoir et les contextes historiques ou nationaux. Du sage traditionnel au « taon » de Socrate, en passant par les clercs médiévaux et les philosophes des Lumières, la modernité a ajouté les figures du savant, de l’expert et de l’intellectuel, celui « qui se mêle de ce qui ne le regarde pas » (Sartre). Dans le dernier tiers du XXe siècle, les postures changent : le « grand intellectuel » universaliste et prophétique laisse place à celles de l’intellectuel « spécifique » (Foucault), lui-même proche de l’intellectuel-expert ou de l’universitaire-consultant, auxquelles s’ajoutent enfin depuis peu celle de l’« éthicien ». Aujourd’hui, comment les philosophes et les éthiciens comprennent-ils leur engagement critique et le contexte de leur intervention ?

Ce colloque propose de s'interroger à la fois sur les conséquences de l'événement – au niveau national et international – et sur les particularités de sa réception et réinterprétation, non seulement lors du saisissant moment initial, mais dans son assez longue temporalité conduisant jusqu'à notre temps présent : tantôt le souvenir du coup d'État s'estompe et quasiment disparaît, tantôt il fait subitement irruption sur le devant de la scène.

War and Peace in French history
Sixtieth Annual Meeting of the Society for French Historical Studies (SFHS)
The SFHS conference’s theme will be “War and Peace in French history”, with special reference to the centenary of the outbreak of World War I. Scheduled guest-speakers will be twentieth century specialists Professors John Horne (Trinity College, Dublin) and Martha Hanna (University of Colorado, Boulder), both noted scholars of France and the Great War; and Philippe Contamine, Emeritus Professor of medieval history and Membre de l’Institut, who will lecture on the theme of the Hundred Years War in comparison with World War I.

Organisé par le CIAPHS, le colloque « Tour du monde des sciences sociales : le Brésil » vise à donner un aperçu des thèmes et des auteurs des sciences sociales brésiliennes (histoire, sociologie, ethnologie, sciences des religions). Des indigènes à l'institutionalisation des sciences sociales, du football au fait religieux, autant de thèmes qui permettront de découvrir le Brésil à travers les interventions de six chercheurs brésiliens. Deux documentaires seront également diffusés durant les deux jours du colloque consacré au Brésil, véritable pays-continent. -

Les « Journées des jeunes américanistes (JJA) », organisées par le Centre d’études mexicaines et centraméricaines, le Collège franco-mexicain en sciences sociales, l’Institut français d’Amérique centrale, l’Institut de recherche pour le développement et l’Institut des Amériques, sont une rencontre annuelle qui ouvre un espace de discussion, interaction et construction méthodologique dans un cadre scientifique international. C’est un espace de travail et d’échange adressé aux étudiants qui se trouvent dans leur recherche de thèse de licence, maîtrise et doctorat en sciences sociales.
