Materiality and strategies of correspondance in Europe and its colonial extensions - 17th-20th centuries

Cette journée des jeunes chercheurs s'adresse aux doctorants et jeunes docteurs autour du thème de la correspondance. L'échange est primordial au sein des sociétés, entre les individus ou les institutions et les rapports et enjeux sont pluriels. Il s'agit ici de s'intéresser à cet acte de communication, et de s'attacher plus particulièrement à percevoir la matérialité de cette activité, de cet objet, d'appréhender l'organisation, les défis ou les stratégies rencontrés pour répondre à cette nécessité d'échange. Le sujet se concentre sur l'espace européen et ses prologements coloniaux entre le XVII^e siècle et le XX^e siècle.

The workshop is about sustainable access to digital cultural and scientific heritage. A normative database of names and the importance of normative control will be the subjects of Ana Kne?evi? Cerovski's presentation, who is the editor of the normative base of the National and University Library in Zagreb. As an introduction to the topic and the issue of creating a thesaurus, M. Sc. Irena Kolbas, senior curator and head of the library of the Ethnographic Museum will present the problem of terminology for a specific area of ethnology and cultural anthropology.

Starting from the “frontline city” of Berlin, we will cast our glance to West Germany and its neighboring countries in order not only to frame the Berlin Airlift as a transnational memorial of the Cold War, but also to address, from outside, the question of whether Berlin was really the international focus of the East-West conflict back then, as the press and academia so often portray it.

European sexologies, Historical and social approaches

This conference seeks to assess the current state of research in a thriving field and to create a European research network on the history of sexology. The term sexology here is understood in a broad sense (as scholarly discourse on human sexuality) and the period covered will be large, from the nineteenth century to the early 1970s. The historiography of this field, which like historiography on sexuality dates back to the 1970s and 1980s, is currently undergoing considerable change, through the influence of social and feminist history on the sciences. This has resulted in less focus on the study of paradigms and scientific pronouncements and instead privileged social and material histories of scholars and academic practices

This interdisciplinary conference seeks to confront the material history of early modern objects with their artistic and literary representations. It proposes to look at the various “traces” left by material culture as it circulated and was appropriated. Studying the history of material culture (be it dress and personal accessories, everyday and decorative objects, art works, and technical, scientific, or musical instruments…) sheds light upon the various processes of cultural appropriation, transculturation or hybridization that accompanied such material circulations across Europe or between Europe and the rest of the world.
