The impact of IT and communications in the processes of feminine migrations in Central Africa
The case of Cameroon

Experiences and Images of Conflict
Although historians dealing with war will inevitably be called to concentrate their attention on violence, often the understanding of how violence itself was perceived, understood, imagined and experienced by combatants and civilians is neglected. Much still needs to be said about how war was shaped by and, in turn, influenced, modern perceptions of violence. Considering war, as John Keegan has put it, first and foremost as ‘a cultural act’, this conference calls attention to the ways in which warfare violence was imagined and understood during the modern era, focusing on the distance between expectations and experiences of war; on the distance between – or coincidence of – ‘imagined’ and the ‘real’ wars. The period considered ranges from the Crimean War to the Second World War and its aftermath.

The Middle Bronze Age and the origins of the Late Bronze Age in Western Europe
From the coasts of the Mediterranean to Scandinavia (17th-13th century BC)
More than 20 years after the CTHS conference at Stasbourg/Haguenau Dynamique du Bronze moyen en Europe occidentale, the "Bronze 2014" conference proposes to revisit this chronological period in the light of recent discoveries and new research. In Western Europe, the Middle Bronze Age develops over a period of three centuries from the 17th to the 14th century BC followed by a transitional period during the 14th-13th centuries BC (the recent Bronze Age in the Mediterranean), period that is marked by continuity and major changes that announce the Late Bronze Age. During the last twenty years preventive archaeology has grown exponentially in France and in the rest of Europe, providing data that has largely renewed research. The 2014 Strasbourg conference aims to present papers giving a general overview of this new research.

VIth Mediterranean Congress of Aesthetics
Facts and Values in Aesthetics: Contemporary Stakes and Approaches
In a text entitled The Collapse of the Fact/Value Dichotomy and Other Essays (2004), Hilary Putnam argues convincingly against a classic opposition which does not serve philosophical reflection positively. Putnam’s analysis mostly focuses on the theory and practice of knowledge, but one can legitimately extend it to other fields, starting with that of aesthetics, which sooner or later is confronted with the question of whether one defends or rejects the dichotomy. Keeping or rejecting it implies reasons to do so, but often these reasons remain implicit, most especially in aesthetics.

Research seminar and study days

Conference, symposium - Sociology
Diversity and recomposition of Protestantism in Paris

History and historiography of Islam in Western Europe, 19th-20th centuries
