  (Re)living and (re)thinking History through the prism of the contemporary

  Le témoignage est un acte d’éveil de la mémoire pour dire sa/la vérité ou ses/les vérités sur le(s) vécu(s) individuel(s) et/ou collectif(s) plus ou moins lointain(s). C’est une entreprise de rétrospection et d’introspection, voire de sublimation qui a la particularité, en littérature (appréhendée ici dans son sens le plus large), de se présenter sous plusieurs formes génériques. L’écriture testimoniale est une initiative qui est (profondément/psychiquement) motivée et a une intention(nalité), du moins des enjeux tant au niveau individuel (de l’auteur.e-témoin/enquêteur ou reporteur) qu’au niveau transindividuel (tribal, ethnique, social ou inter/national). Le présent appel à contribution pour ouvrage(s) collectif(s) se propose d’interroger la/les poétique(s) et les (en)jeux du témoignage en littérature ou de la littérature du témoignage indépendamment du (sous-)genre, de la période et de l’aire géographique et culturelle.

  The principles of public contracts in Europe

  Research into national rights and EU rights

  In most EU member States, the legal and judicial framework applying to public contracts refers to principles in a broad meaning. Such references can be observed both in the case law (national or at the European level) and in the relevant normative framework (understood in a wide sense, i.e. non only binding norms: EU primary and secondary law, national laws (legislative or regularoty), but also guiding principles of public procurement endorsed by contracting authorities, purchase guide for procurements. Such diversity of references has to be appraised, between the core principles of public procurement, the principles as a frame of references, the usual contractual principles or also principles understood as a general orientation. This international symposium, which finalizes a research project began 2 years ago, aims at providing an in-depth comprehension of this proliferation of references to principles, within the more general perspective of the existence of a commun Framework for public contracts in Europe.

  The political theory of Europe

  Dans le champ des études européennes, la théorie politique occupe une place encore très limitée. L’Europe demeure, encore aujourd’hui, un objet politique d’abord investi par l’analyse juridique, l’analyse historique, l’analyse des politiques publiques ou l’analyse sociologique. Les déchirements nationalistes du XXe siècle comme le processus de globalisation ont engendré à la fois une remise en cause d’un monde westphalien purement étatique et induit la nécessité d’édifier une « unité de survie » (N. Elias) à l’échelle du continent. Or, cette nouvelle exigence ne peut être appréhendée à partir de la simple duplication des catégories classiques (État, souveraineté…). L’Europe est d’abord une construction politique d’un nouveau genre qui requière de forger à nouveaux frais des concepts normatifs ajustés à cette réalité dynamique et parfois chaotique.

  Our Time Has Come

  Towards Transatlantic and Transdisciplinary Approaches to Black Counter-Representations, from 1945 until Today

  The central goal of this conference lies thus in the investigation of the multiplicity of visual representations produced by the Black population and diaspora between France and the United States in the second half of the 20th century. In particular, we invite researchers to focus on productions which have challenged—directly or indirectly—the traditional canon for Black representations. Of particular interest in this conference are examples demonstrating a visual/ideologic rupture with depreciative models that permeated the public imagination in the West, whether they be positive counter-models or new visual representations aiming to critically subvert formerly pejorative representational frames.

  Seeing politics through intermediation and intermediaries

  This study-day is about exploring the conceptual expanse of intermediation at local, national and international scales. The neo-liberal transformation of regimes of accumulation greatly affected the arrangement of political and state power (Jessop, 2007), functional logics of political actors, governance mechanisms and international diplomacy. Simultaneously, the type of competencies demanded in these fields also adapted to this new configuration. In the process, forms, meanings, and roles of intermediaries morphed into a mass of actors ranging from individuals (brokers, patrons, fixers) to NGOs (national and transnational) and Think-Tanks to nation-states. In this study-day, researchers will present their work about envisioning intermediation not as a peripheral activity but something that connects different fields and scales of socio-political activity together. The sinews of intermediation connects the citizens with state, policies with governments, ideas with political imaginaries and fields of domestic policy and politics with international diplomacy and migration management.

  In line with the Italian Public History Manifesto, approved after our association’s meeting in Pisa in June 2018, AIPH intends to contribute to the affirmation of a greater awareness of the value of historical knowledge, an essential resource for understanding the present, planning of the future and exercising full citizenship. The 4th AIPH National Conference of Venice-Mestre will create new opportunities for discussion and reflection between those who work with the past. The conference will examine ways in which history is present in society today, from universities to public places, in schools and learning institutions, in high and in popular culture and, finally, in the daily life of our communities.

  Ce cycle de conférences vise à développer une réflexion sur les formes matérielles de l’écriture, dans la lignée des réflexions menées au Centre d’étude de l’écriture et de l’image créé par Anne-Marie Christin en 1982. Comme les années précédentes, le cycle sollicitera le réseau du CEEI, les chercheurs associés de Thalim et des intervenants extérieurs, dans une configuration interdisciplinaire et ouverte aux formes non occidentales de l’écrit. Chaque séance sera l’occasion d’une présentation permettant d’interroger l’articulation entre signes et supports de l’écrit (épigraphique, manuscrit, typographique, calligraphique, etc.) et sera suivie d’une discussion collective.

L’hyperinformation n’est pas toujours garante de connaissances et de positions réfléchies, loin s’en faut. Celles-ci vont de pair avec un public de plus en plus informé, impliqué par le biais des médias, voire co-responsable. Il importe d’étudier quelles réponses les hommes et femmes de théâtre apportent aux défis de représentation des guerres contemporaines.   The seminar aims to study the key period of the early 20^th century during which diplomacy become more official and adapted to major changes in international life. Two diplomats of the same generation, one who had a traditional background (Hanotaux) and the other a laureate of the recruitment exam which had recently been established at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Jusserand), represent this era. Sharing an interest in French-American relations, they helped define the major areas of foreign policy but also left behind a body of work in the intellectual milieu of their time.

  Imagined Identities and Communities in the Late Middle Ages

  On December 9 and 10 of this year, the “Cultures i Societats de l'Edat Mitjana” (CiSEM) research group, led by Dr. Antoni Furió, professor of medieval history at the University of Valencia, will hold a conference with the title: Imagined Identities and Imagined Communities in the Late Middle Ages.  Far from being strictly contemporary creations, nations, the most elaborated product of imagined communities, had their relevance throughout the medieval centuries. The most recent historiography has tried to establish the mechanisms that contributed to building this type of imaginary in which, according to some anthropologists, sociologists and political scientists, collective identities are taking an increasingly prominent role in international geopolitics. For this reason, this process is presented as a great opportunity to discuss the most recent historiographical contributions, and to try to shed more light on a transcendental historical phenomenon on the evolution of human societies.

  Towards a New Social History of Sudan

  The historiography of modern and contemporary Sudan has been shaped by its political history. Indeed, historians have often been called upon to respond to contemporary crises – civil wars, regime changes, international conflicts – often according to criteria of urgency, at the risk of falling into a certain presentism. In this context, social history, which often requires a slower and punctilious form of research, which does not produce ready-made solutions to the multiple crises in the country, and which put at the centre stage the lives of “ordinary people” has struggled to assert itself on the academic scene. This conference, which is also a research program, aims to put “ordinary people”, women and men, back at the center of Sudan's modern and contemporary history. From the outset, we wish to emphasize that the term “ordinary people” should neither hide nor flatten the teeming complexity of Sudanese society.

  La femme au Moyen Âge : en lui-même le sujet est immense, omniprésent pour les médiévistes de toute catégorie, qu’ils soient philosophes, théologiens, historiens, littéraires, historiens du droit ou de l’art. Pourtant, les difficultés ne manquent pas pour qui veut étudier la moitié de l’humanité durant la moitié de l’ère chrétienne. D’abord, les sources sont presque toutes rédigées par des hommes, en majorité des clercs que leur état de vie sépare des femmes. Ensuite, la femme au Moyen Âge, ce sont en réalité des femmes plurielles et diverses, par leur âge, leur position sociale et l’époque où elles ont vécu. Cette femme au Moyen Âge que nous étudions, ce sont donc plutôt les femmes à travers les Moyen Âges.
