    Student movements and (post-)colonial emancipations

    Transnational itineraries, dialogues and programmes

This conference will discuss the transnational and connected history of student engagements in colonial liberations and the critical reflection on the multilateral management of conflicts in the postcolonial period. It will investigate internal and external tensions, and the reorganisation of these movements in relation to pacifism, revolutionary struggle, conflict prevention and peace making. It will also consider the impact of the new multilateral management of conflicts (through the United Nations, but also the European Union) on European and North American societies, including on young people and student movements, whose membership often goes far beyond national spheres.

Society, culture, community in the United Kingdom (1970-79)

This two-day conference focusing on British society of the 1970s seeks to enlarge and to alter perspectives on the period. The intention is to examine the dynamic of contradiction, inventiveness and tensions that is at work. The intention of the conference-organizers is to circumvent and thus question any “teleological” or linear reading of the period in terms of the necessary “coming of Thatcherism” in the United Kingdom, where the politics and culture of the period are read as so many symptoms or omens of the 1979 election result. The aim is to focus on the plurality of conflicting possibilities evident in the period, and therefore on the contingency of outcomes.

Social sciences and society. New sites, discourses and practices of diversity and citizenship

    Interdisciplinary approaches and European perspectives

The museum and its environment - the contours of the museum space

3rd study for doctoral students in museum studies at Paris 3-Sorbonne Nouvelle

The making of Muslim chaplaincies in prisons

    Comparative approaches

In France, prison chaplain activities are currently under hitherto unforeseen scrutiny in the scope of public action and academic fields. This renewed interest in an institution that seemed to be on the verge of falling into disuse little more than two decades ago in France, can be explained by the upheaval that the religious profile of inmates has undergone in the past three or four decades. Moreover Muslim chaplains have been seen as a policy tool for preventing radicalisation. In a context where there is widespread interest in the role chaplains could play in the fight against the swing to violent extremism, this symposium will seek to review the way in which Muslim actors in France and in other countries have made use of this institution even though it does not belong to their own religious tradition.

Africa and the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) - reviving relations

    Temporalities and sports

    "Temporalités" Journal no. 25 (2017/1)

Be it from a regulatory perspective or through a specific schedule of events, sports are related to different kinds of temporalities. From there, one can classify competitive sport along three different types of relationship to time. But may there be temporalities specific to sport or to different practices of sports, and if yes, how can these be characterized? Beyond the « temporalities of sports », all the links between « temporalities and sports » are indeed to be questioned, including historical time (Elias), biographical time (the learning, the mastering of differents sports, careers in sports), institutional time (implying homogenisation through world-scale timetables), media time (and its economic calculations), etc.

    Neoliberalism in the Anglophone world

References to neoliberalism in Anglophone scholarly research are commonplace, and have increased exponentially over the past couple of decades. Despite (or perhaps because of) such promiscuity, however, the term itself has been prone to inflation, and for some it has become an “overblown” concept that tends to be applied (in an invariably disapproving way) to pretty much anything today. This conference aims at presenting a critical overview of issues related to neoliberalism in the Anglophone world. It will be broad in scope by covering British, American and the other English-speaking areas, as well as the fields of civilisation, literature and linguistics, while maintaining a thematic focus on the concept of neoliberalism from international and interdisciplinary perspectives.

The doctrines and realities of happiness - 1st Angers conference, BonDroit

    Ire rencontre d'Angers - BonDroit
