Giacomo Casanova est né le 2 avril 1725 à Venise. Il a, au cours de sa vie, voyagé à Liège. Ce colloque sera l’occasion d’explorer les rapports, variables mais vivaces, qui ont existé ou qui existent encore entre Casanova et nous, lecteurs, auteurs, créateurs, chercheurs.

Mobility, one of the fundamental functions of any society, is now a key concept in research into migration in the human and social sciences. In an approach to migration based essentially on identity, security or usefulness, several African, European and American states have adopted immigration laws to limit the movement of people and access to the right of asylum. In the light of current concerns about migration throughout the world, this international symposium in tribute to Professor ALLOU Kouamé René is intended to provide a framework for analysing the migration policies that African governments, whether or not they are subject to the diktat of Western public authorities, are trying to implement in order to remedy these identity crises as part of the construction of the nation-state.

The “Islam - Migrations - Gender” workshop aims to initiate a dialogue between three fields of research that communicate little: the history of Islam, the history of migrations and the history of gender. The first is too focused on religious dimensions for some, the second is too focused on state control of migration others, and the third is too “militant” for the rest. How, then, can we write a social and cultural history of Muslims in Europe that integrates gender as a category of historical analysis and focuses on the daily lives of the actors, highlighting their “agency”?

We invite archaeologists, historians, anthropologists, media and communication scholars, heritage curators, and witnesses to discuss these pioneering figures, focusing on their excavation methods, conservation techniques, and efforts to share knowledge about their archaeological finds.

Patrimoines en conflits : savoirs locaux et préservation du patrimoine
En situation de conflit armé, le patrimoine culturel révèle ses vulnérabilités. Les collections de musées, de bibliothèques et d’archives ainsi que les monuments et le patrimoine bâti sont souvent les victimes malheureuses des interventions militaires. Dans le cadre de cette journée d’étude, nous souhaitons mettre en valeur la question des savoirs locaux dans la préservation du patrimoine en situation de conflit armés. Il est nécessaire, croyons-nous, de nous interroger sur le rôle des acteurs locaux dans le succès et l’échec des politiques de protection et de valorisation du patrimoine. Ces acteurs locaux sont potentiellement des acteurs clés de la préservation en situation de conflits armés. Cette réflexion nécessite l’exploration des savoirs locaux qu’ils peuvent convoquer ou construire en vue d’assurer une collaboration pour une préservation du patrimoine.

Study days - Epistemology and methodology
Epistemologies and methodologies in Britain and in France
At a time when the social sciences are taking an increasing interest in the field of the private sphere and intimacy in relationships, the aim of the symposium is to bring together specialists whose work in France and the UK has enriched our knowledge of young people’s intimacy. Using examples of projects on love, sexual and parental relationships, the aim of this symposium is to examine, in a reflective and comparative way, the different theoretical and methodological approaches underpinning research. Definitions, theories and tools (demographic surveys, qualitative interviews as well as visual, narrative and performative methods) and their cultural and institutional contexts, will be explored in order to discuss the production of knowledge in the two countries.

Ce colloque contribuera également à la décolonisation des savoirs en articulant la notion de commun avec celles de buen vivir et d’ubuntu, ainsi qu’en montrant en quoi les pratiques liées à ces notions contribuent à favoriser des formes d’émancipation multiples, et ainsi à contrer des formes d’oppression liées notamment aux systèmes capitaliste, patriarcal et raciste / colonialiste.

Appropriating international spaces and professions. European women and feminists in the 20th century
The workshop focuses on the intersections between the history of international relations, the history of European integration, women’s and gender history, European studies, and gender studies. Since the early 21st century, historiography on international relations and European integration has undergone profound transformations, enabling the integration of a gender perspective. The workshop has two main objectives. First, it will reassess the field by discussing the theoretical and methodological challenges of approaches at the intersection of the history of international relations, European integration, gender and feminist history, European studies, and gender studies. Second, the workshop will provide a platform for debate around case studies, recent or ongoing empirical work. It is explicitly aimed at PhD candidates and early-career researchers.

This symposium proposes to study how artists have not only observed animals and, in some cases, lived alongside them, but have also sometimes attributed agency to them. The idea of an active relationship between the artist and the animal raises fundamental questions about the role of animals in artistic production. The analysis of artistic practices allows for questioning the nature of the bond between humans and other animals, and examining how, in certain works, the animal can be perceived as a protagonist capable of resisting attempts at reification. Rather than being a mere reflection of power relations between humans and animals, artistic creation thus becomes a site of negotiation, even contestation, of these relationships.

Un panorama européen
Le parlementarisme contemporain ne peut exister sans images. En tant que forme représentative de gouvernement basée (dans l’idéal) sur des élections et un mandat libre, il est tributaire de la communication écrite, orale et visuelle avec le « peuple » afin d’établir et de maintenir la confiance des électeurs et des électrices dans la représentation politique. Car, comme l’écrivait Hans Kelsen en 1926, la représentation politique au parlement est une « fiction » dont la crédibilité doit être constamment confirmée par la communication. Les contributions au colloque du 26–28 novembre 2025 apporteront des éléments à un panorama européen de l’imaginaire parlementaire, et ce pour la période allant de la Révolution française aux années 1930, qui marquent une nouvelle ère non seulement en termes politiques mais aussi en termes d’histoire des médias, avec la montée en puissance de la radio et du cinéma.

Social Histories and Sociologies of the Military Uniform
The workshop aims to study and discuss selected issues related to the history of the modern military uniform. Uniforms are an important research area of military historians and an object of interest of numerous enthusiasts, including non-academic authors and researchers. Despite a large number of publications about army clothing, only a few of them employ the social perspective or deal with the cultural meaning of uniforms. Therefore, we would like to bring attention to those understudied research areas of military history, historical anthropology and sociology.

Trauma et création artistique : l’engagement des artistes arabes dans des dynamiques de résilience
Le colloque vise à ouvrir la réflexion à des productions culturelles et/ou artistiques des cultures méditerranéennes en reconfiguration. Ces corpus seront représentatifs des contacts et des croisements entre artistes européens et arabes, immigrés ou non, dans des environnements artistiques désormais mondialisés. Les interventions mettront au jour, dans une perspective interdisciplinaire et/ou multidisciplinaire, les formes esthétiques, tant novatrices que réadaptées, les modes contemporains et les nouveaux motifs d’engagement méditerranéen et arabe, d’en analyser les effets ainsi que les questions de la distanciation ou de la non-distanciation, de la mise en forme de ces œuvres artistiques et de leur adaptation aux publics. Il s’agira enfin de comprendre comment sont transmis ces discours artistiques, parfois militants (traumartivisme), toujours engagés, relatifs à des questions de société et donc susceptibles d’impliquer différents types de publics, initiés ou non.

Literatures, geographical spaces and the fateful effects of borders
Alors que la frontière est dépeinte comme une limite nécessaire à toute société dans une logique d’organisation et d’administration, entre inclusion et exclusion, la question des déterminants d’une frontière (géographique) est posée. La mise en place ou même bien la postérité de frontières peut être considérée comme tenant à la fois de la contingence et de la nécessité. À l’image du mythe de Héro et Léandre, et de leur amour interdit, la littérature et les arts ont souvent fait de l’eau le marqueur d’une frontière « naturelle’ et ‘émotionnelle ». Dès lors, les éléments d’ordres naturels joueraient un rôle crucial sur la destinée des Hommes et des espaces.
