L’objectif de ce colloque international est d’éclairer en détail la nature relationnelle de la distinction entre réfugié·es et migrant·es, son rôle dans le domaine plus large des migrations et sa généalogie. Bien que centré sur l’histoire, le colloque favorisera également les approches et les réflexions interdisciplinaires.

Italians in/and the Maghreb: Between Integration and Isolation
This special issue examines the presence of Italians in the Maghreb in relation to broader questions of colonialism, race, decolonization as well as contemporary conversations surrounding migration, diaspora, and postcolonial inclusion and belonging. It aims to illuminate the varying tensions and exchanges between Italy and French North Africa, from large-scale migrations to intellectual dialogues between the two regions.

Ce séminaire se consacre à l’étude des circulations des Suds vers les Nords dans l’optique de déconstruire « l’Empire britannique » comme catégorie homogène de pensée pour écrire et penser les histoires intellectuelles, artistiques et politiques des personnes qui circulent au sein de cet espace politique que l’on appelle le Commonwealth des Nations dans la période post-Bandung. Dans la lignée de travaux antérieurs portant les réseaux, échanges et transferts entre artistes, intellectuel·les et activistes politiques issu·es des Suds globaux au sein de cet espace, nous cherchons à interroger la nature contre-hégémonique des savoirs, théories et pratiques artistiques produits depuis Bandung.

International Sikh Studies Conference
The conference aims to provide an interdisciplinary platform for scholars and researchers to engage in critical discussions on Sikhs, and Sikhism, encompassing a variety of historical, social, cultural, political, and religious perspectives. This call for papers aims to explore the multifacted dimensions of Sikh identity, history, politics and religion. Scholars are invited to engage with themese such as Sikh resilience and adaptation, the impact of political upheavals on their global presence, the challenges posed by rleigious ignorance, and the implications of their stateless nationhood. By fostering academic discource on these pressing issues, we aim to deepen our collective understanding of the Sikh experience and its relevance in contemporary societies.

« Communautés coloniales » en Méditerranée entre l’Unification italienne et l’Occupation de la Libye
The trilingual conference “Colonial Communities” in the Mediterranean between Italian Unification and the Occupation of Libya seeks to address a still relatively unexplored topic: the study of Italian communities abroad, with particular attention to the Mediterranean world in the period between national unification (1861) and the occupation of Libya (1911). At the core of this reflection lies the close, and not merely chronological, relationship between the migratory dynamics that characterized the early decades of unified Italy and the rise of colonial expansionism. The seminar therefore aims to investigate this connection through the specific lens offered by the Italian presence in North Africa and in the Ottoman Empire before the occupation of Libya.

La vie sociale des noms et les pratiques de nomination dans les contextes migratoires
Cette journée d’étude a pour objectif d’étudier les noms et les pratiques de nomination en contexte migratoire, à partir de diverses disciplines des sciences humaines et sociales, en abordant des situations actuelles ou historiques analysées à partir d’études de cas empiriques. Cet événement est organisé dans le cadre du projet de recherche multidisciplinaire DIASCO-TIB (ANR 23 CE41 0017), qui examine divers processus de convergence et de divergence linguistiques et sociales à l’œuvre dans la diaspora tibétaine, principalement en France mais aussi dans d’autres espaces géographiques.

Translational Epistemologies and Open Science
Towards Equitable and Sustainable Ecosystems of Knowledge Production and Dissemination
Translation has emerged in recent decades as a keyword in disciplines such as cultural history, anthropology and science and technology studies (STS). Moreover, since around the turn of this century it has become an institutionalized concept in medicine – as evident in the increasing ubiquity of knowledge translation and translational research activities that attempt to put research-based knowledge into practice (Ødemark and Engebretsen 2018).This event will provide a forum for engaging with epistemologies and scholarly initiatives that seek to open up spaces for equitable and ethically responsible reflection on translation within various ecosystems of knowledge and society at large.

Cet appel à articles invite à explorer, dans une perspective de géographie critique et d’écologie politique, les futurs socio-environnementaux des régions de montagne dans le contexte de la crise écoclimatique. Il s’intéresse à la manière dont les relations de pouvoir, les conflits, les discours et les imaginaires façonnent les politiques et les visions de l’« avenir des montagnes ». L’objectif est d’analyser les tensions entre approches dominantes et alternatives, en questionnant les dynamiques de gouvernance, de justice socio-environnementale et de production sociale de la nature. Les contributions attendues doivent proposer une réflexion théorique et/ou empirique sur les scénarios d’après-crise, en portant une attention particulière aux acteurs subalternes, aux visions alternatives et aux formes de contestation dans divers contextes montagnards.

Navigating change in agro-pastoral systems
Transdisciplinary methods for studying social-ecological systems
We are organising a series of three annual summer schools to offer PhD and post-doctoral scientists working on pressing livelihood issues in different social-ecological systems contexts the opportunity to deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in transdisciplinary research that can have tangible impacts on society. The present summer school in Parakou, Benin, focuses on the study of transformations and innovations in African agro-pastoral systems in a context of multi-dimensional turbulence. The summer school aims to help PhD students and post-docs establish and build conceptual and theoretical foundations, develop methodological and analytical skills, and improve the communication of their results and ideas in the transdisciplinary study of social-ecological systems in general, and on agro-pastoral systems in particular.

Labour and health of undocumented migrant women: condition, trends, critical issues
The primary objective of this Frontiers Research Topic is to produce a comprehensive understanding of the working conditions, health status, and acts of resistance among undocumented migrant women. By investigating these elements, the research intends to explore the intersections of labour and health inequalities imposed on these women due to their undocumented statuses and their positioning within the lower strata of global labour hierarchies. Moreover, it seeks to address the broader societal impacts of these conditions and propose potential pathways for improving their lives and labour conditions.

Trans-Indigenous readings of contemporary literature from Canada and the rest of the Americas
The aim of this international workshop on contemporary Indigenous literatures and literary practices in Canada and the rest of the Americas is twofold. Firstly, it lies in exploring the (potential or already existing) implications and applications of the trans-Indigenous comparative methodology proposed by Chadwick Allen in his book Trans-Indigenous: Methodologies for Global Native Literary Studies. The second aim of this workshop is to create a space in which the growing number of researchers in Indigenous studies (including doctoral and postdoctoral researchers), both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, can share their knowledge and reflect together on the possibility of contributing to the development and the consolidation of this field through the collective construction of a critical practice of trans-American Indigenous literary studies research.
