Cette rencontre interrogera les nouvelles formes de la “Palestine globale”, qui réinventent en réseaux les manières de voir, de dire et de représenter la Palestine et d’y vivre. En effet, les études sur la Palestine ont ouvert la voie à des pistes heuristiques pour analyser des processus contemporains à l’œuvre ailleurs dans le monde - violence globalisée, hypermilitarisation des espaces et des frontières, nouveaux mécanismes du pouvoir - et pour comprendre des dynamiques de domination en Palestine et ailleurs dans le monde.

How can we look at Iranian cinema and the visual arts in relation to Iran today when the country has been experiencing an important episode of uprising and resistance, since September 16, 2022? Indeed, as in 1979, 1999, and 2009, and as in 2017 and 2018, it is obvious that images play a decisive role in the constitution of events. Iranian artists and filmmakers are indeed demonstrating an exceptional mobilization and effervescence in order to bear witness to the ongoing protests, but also to support them and mobilize international public opinion.

Les séismes qui secouent la Turquie et la Syrie depuis le 6 février 2023 sont sans précédent au Moyen-Orient depuis le XIIe siècle. Dans une région déjà frappée par la guerre et les tensions régionales, l’ampleur des dégâts matériels d’une part, et le nombre de victimes qui avoisine les 50 000 morts d’autre part, focalisent l’attention médiatique et remettent le lien entre politique et action humanitaire au centre du débat. Cette table ronde vise à sortir du traitement médiatique de cette catastrophe pour interroger ce qu’ils posent comme défis aux relations internationales.

It will offer a space to discuss “secret” language practices of LGBTQI+ communities from South Africa, Brazil, India, Israel, Morocco, Peru and Turkey.

Acteurs et sociétés
Les actions, politiques et diplomaties culturelles émanant des États du Moyen Orient et du Nord de l’Afrique ou dirigées vers eux ont le plus souvent été étudiées sous l’angle des relations internationales ou de la science politique, à l’échelle du temps présent. Nous nous proposons de les analyser à une échelle temporelle plus large, depuis l’époque des impérialismes européens jusqu'à nos jours, en passant par la période des décolonisations. Nous ne nous limiterons pas à des approches strictement institutionnelles, mais nous nous intéresserons à leurs promoteurs, à leurs acteurs et à leurs destinataires, à travers des études de cas portant sur différents pays et secteurs culturels (édition, cinéma, musique, arts plastiques, patrimoine).

Les terrains israélo-palestiniens : enjeux méthodologiques, épistémologiques et politiques
Cette journée d’étude s’inscrit dans la continuité d’un courant de réflexion s’intéressant aux défis du terrain au Proche et au Moyen-Orient, et a pour objectif de se consacrer particulièrement aux espaces israélo-palestiniens comme terrains de recherche. Soumis à des dominations impériales, mandataires et coloniales et traversé par de concurrentes revendications nationalistes, ce territoire est, depuis la fin du XIXe siècle, le théâtre d’une colonisation qui modifie régulièrement l’espace et l’organisation sociale. Quelles sont les problématiques auxquelles doivent faire face les chercheur·es travaillant sur les terrains israélo-palestiniens ? Quels sont les effets et les apports de ces difficultés sur le façonnement de l’objet d’étude, mais aussi sur le positionnement et la représentation du ou de la chercheur·e ?

À la fin du XIXe siècle et au début du XXe siècle, les bibliothèques occidentales ont enrichi leurs collections avec des manuscrits issus des communautés juives du Caire, sous le nom de Manuscrits de la Genizah du Caire. La quatorzième journée d’étude en paléographie et diplomatique hébraïques s’adresse à tous les chercheurs travaillant sur les collections de la Genizah du Caire conservées dans les institutions françaises.

Music-Making and Musicians in Cinema of the MENA Region
Interactions between film and music in the MENA region are relatively understudied, partly because music often takes a subsidiary role in film analysis, while music specialists seldom turn their attention to film. Nevertheless, a growing body of work exists on music as a form of cultural resistance at times of political upheaval, such as during the Arab uprisings and protests in Iran when voices of past musical icons have reverberated with the revolutionary mood and musicians have become symbols against political oppression.

Archéologie de la production céramique et des espaces artisanaux : regards croisés
From the 8th millennium BCE onwards, pottery production developed in Southwestern Asia and became a significant trait of Neolithic societies. Ceramic material is widely adopted. It represented a revolution on several scales and quickly constituted an important part of production activities. Thus, the objective of this workshop is to propose a transdisciplinary meeting about the methodologies of studying pottery manufacture sites, through examples from various contexts from prehistoric times to the contemporary period, and with a special interest in alternative approaches.

The relevance of Eugen Ehrlich’s thought to empirical methods of law
The year 2022 marks the centenary of Eugen Ehrlich's death. This great Austro- Hungarian jurist is often presented as the father of legal sociology. As a close observer of legal practices, he was the first to use and invent concepts that have become fundamental in legal sociology today, such as legal pluralism, living law, and legal consciousness. Ehrlich’s research revisits and reverses the illustrious tradition of the Pandects, established and perfected by legal scholars such as Savigny or Puchta. Although Ehrlich has inspired jurists around the world, he remains a little known figure in France. The present symposium is therefore devoted to reconsider the actuality of his thought, using the last chapters of his Grundlegung der Soziologie des Rechts (Foundation of the Sociology of Law) as a main reference. During the first day, specialists will introduce us to the concepts of his methodology of legal sociology and the influence he had on his contemporaries. Once the fundamentals have been established, the second day will highlight the dynamics of Ehrlich's thought for law contemporary research.

La deuxième séance du cycle « Images et imaginaire(s) de la ville » « Régénération, réconciliation, réinvention : Beyrouth à l’épreuve des risques », portera sur la ville de Beyrouth. Ce cycle pluridisciplinaire, sous format de deux tables-rondes, ambitionne de regrouper sous forme d’un kaléidoscope, les communications de chercheurs d’horizons et de disciplines diversifiés (architecture, urbanisme, conservateur-restaurateur, sociologue, politicien, historien...), autour de la ville de Beyrouth. Cet appel à contribution s’adresse aux architectes, urbanistes, paysagistes, enseignants et chercheurs engagés par leurs enseignements, leurs pratiques et leurs recherches dans ces domaines, et désirant partager et mettre en débat leurs questionnements (théoriques, conceptuels et constructifs)

7th Graduate Student Workshop of Center for Turkish, Ottoman, Balkan, and Central Asian Studies (CETOBaC)
This day will focus on the issues of production, use, and circulation of primary sources in our research areas. It will allow each participant to present their work, reflect collectively, discuss how we collect, produce, and classify our archives, and deal with their interpretation. It will also question the processes of archiving and the dynamics of conservation, patrimonialization, and destruction of archives as sociopolitical issues. Finally, by taking advantage of the diversity of the cultural areas studied, we will reflect on the transmission and circulation of sources in their temporal and spatial backgrounds.

From the disconnected letters to the science of letters: a meeting of knowledges in the Middle East
In order to interpret the disconnected letters of the Qur’an (ḥurūf muqaṭṭa‘a), Muslim thinkers have based their work on esoteric concepts, sometimes handed down from Antiquity, which have flourished in Islamic lands under the name of the science of letters (‘ilm al-ḥurūf). This international symposium aims to study the various representations of the mysterious letters within the wider framework of the science of letters, and to put them in perspective against similar readings from languages and cultures close to Arabic. Part of the symposium will be held in the historic citadel of Erbil in the heart of ancient Mesopotamia, “the land of the two rivers”, the cradle of early writing.

However, even if it does not pretend to predict the future, this call for papers wishes to question the long-term effects and the procedures that contribute to the perpetuation of Theatrical currents and productions in the Arab World.

Ce colloque international entend explorer l’œuvre d’Atiq Rahimi, romancier (prix Goncourt 2008) et cinéaste, dans son rapport à la notion de frontière. Initialement prévu en mai 2020, il avait été annulé en raison de la situation sanitaire ; compte tenu des événements d’août 2021 en Afghanistan, il importe plus que jamais de (re)penser la place des artistes afghans en exil. Le colloque aura lieu en présence de l’auteur.
