Conferencia Internacional Cine – Arte, Tecnología, Comunicación
Durante 5 días, en la pequeña villa de Avanca, el cine es el tema aglutinador que provoca encuentros fructíferos entre los participantes, transformando así Avanca en la Villa del Cine, y en un escenario de intercambio de ideas, debate y divulgación de sus investigaciones. La Avanca | Cinema se reafirma así como una conferencia única e importante en el panorama internacional y nacional, debido a la media de participantes, pero también por la diversidad temática que tiene presentado en las últimas cinco ediciones. Unido a estos aspectos, se junta el hecho de acontecer en paralelo con el Festival de Cinema de Avanca, asumiéndose así como un evento completo que ofrece a investigadores, académicos, realizadores, productores, actores, críticos, técnicos, cinéfilos, entre otros, un programa diversificado con workshops, sesiones de cine, presentaciones de libros, mesas redondas, sesiones paralelas y plenarias.

Intermediate Groups in the Portuguese Dominions, 16th-18th century
Revista de História (Universidade de São Paulo)
The Revista de História of the University of São Paulo (Brazil) invites interested scholars to submit proposals for articles to be published as part of a ‘dossier’ concerning intermediate groups in the Portuguese dominions on the Early Modern Age. Throughout that period, ‘middle people’ strove to assert themselves in rural areas and helped to shape old and new urban centers in the Portuguese World, corresponding to an increased demand for specialized services and ensuring the necessary extensions of royal representation functions and Church activities. Even though almost non-existent in juridical or normative terms, those groups were recognized both by nationals and foreigners as a complex and vibrant intermediate social layer. Time has come to try and distinguish its specificities, trends of formation and effective roles in social dynamics.

Lo puro y lo impuro se establecen como categorías estructuradoras del islamismo y del judaísmo, abarcando segmentos tan dispares como el cuerpo, el vestuario, la alimentación o el propio espacio. El segundo número de la revista Hamsa va a centrarse en esa temática integradora, procurando englobar perspectivas históricas diacrónicas. En este sentido, se pretende potenciar el análisis de las relaciones interconfesionales, en las vertientes en que la pureza y la impureza se proyectan en el contacto con el otro. Pureza e impureza queapenas respetan a las propias minorías, como también se refleja en la propia Christianitas, a través de la interiorización de esos conceptos y la respectiva aplicación a las comunidades minoritarias (como el caso ejemplar del fenómeno de la limpieza de sangre).

Another Music in a Different Room
Resulting from a series of developed works in the last decade within the framework of social sciences (namely Sociology of Culture, Sociology of Arts, Sociology of Youth, Urban Sociology and Sociology of Music), in this advanced seminar we will have the opportunity of deepening the understanding around the importance, functioning, process, the agents, characteristics, genres and subgenres of the current urban music scenes. The ANOTHER MUSIC IN A DIFFERENT ROOM will be a fruitful space for ideas, discussions and, therefore, for a great developments on scientific knowledge. So, it’s our intention to share all this scientific dynamic with the world in order to contribute to a larger debate on music, youth, lifestyles, culture, cultural scenes, music scenes. In this context, the ideas and discussions held in the Advanced Seminar, both by lecturers and participants, will be published in a Collaborative e-book.

The 1st Workshop on Digital Humanities and e-Science will be held as part of e-Science 2014, with the endorsement of AHDig. The motivation for this workshop starts at the realization that there is an intersection between Digital Humanities and e-Science. The workshop proposes to explore the extent of this intersection, aiming at expanding the common ground, even if the communities have not agreed upon the exact boundaries. With this in mind, this event will present and discuss research in the Humanities with intensive participation of computer resources.

The 2nd edition of the International Conference "Medieval Europe in Motion" is already underway. It will take place in Lisbon, March 4-6, 2015. The conference's main scientific goal is, once more, to analyse the phenomenon of circulation, motion and mobility of people, forms and ideas during the Middle Ages. This time, however, the focus will be on the illuminated manuscripts. This three-day Conference aims thus to conduct a critical and constructive revision of research on Iberian Book Illumination in the Middle Ages, proposing new questions to be discussed.

In this sense, we intend to initiate an interdisciplinary debate on the problematic of "War, University and Science", bearing in mind these multiple relationships and interdependencies, as well as the associated epistemological problematic.

The V Congress of the APA will host an ethnographic film screening, in sessions that will be held in the small auditorium of the Teatro Municipal de Vila Real on September 8, 9, 10 and 11. The (non-competitive) festival’s theme, ‘Anthropology in Counterpoint’ focuses on films which demonstrate the polyphony and multiplicity of points-of-view that characterizes the anthropological project. This conference, prepared as part of a 3-years research project on the “Overall Rural Tourism Experience” (ORTE) inthree Portuguese villages, offers an in depth discussion of the “rural tourism experience”, its manifestations, meanings, impacts and evolution. It intends to significantly contribute to current reflections on the potential and limitations of rural tourism as a development tool as well as to the identification of ways to maximize this potential in certain circumstances, through a more profound understanding of the dynamics of the “overall rural tourism experience”.
