Appel à contribution pour un colloque international co-organisé par l’association Richie, l’UMR IRICE, l’Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne et l’Université Paris 3 Sorbonne Nouvelle. L'objectif de ce colloque est d'enrichir l'historiographie des relations entre l'Europe de l'Est et les pays riverains de la Méditerranée. La périodisation proposée s’étend de 1967 à 1989 et prend en compte les seules relations politiques, diplomatiques et économiques entre l’Est de l’Europe et la Méditerranée, que ce soit de manière bilatérale ou multilatérale.

The 10th Conference of the International Institute for Ethnomethodology and Conversation Analysis will be held from July 11 to 14, 2011 at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). The Conference promotes the study of practical action and social interaction, and provides an international forum for researchers working in the areas of ethnomethodology and conversation analysis. The conference will also celebrate the originality, significance and fruitfulness of the work of Harold Garfinkel, who passed away last month at the age of 93. Specific events will be held to honor Harold Garfinkel's legacy: a tribute ceremony, workshops on his research and an exhibition displaying testimonies of his influence around the world. Merchant accounting and profits in Europe and the Americas, 1650-1850

Comment opère l’échange marchand à l’« âge du commerce » (XVIIe – premier XIXe siècle) ? Comment comprendre la construction et le fonctionnement de l’activité commerciale, moteur de l’expansion coloniale européenne à travers l’Atlantique, et le reste du monde ? Ce colloque cherchera à explorer de nouveaux angles d’approches : penser le profit comme jugement qualitatif en lien avec le crédit et la réputation, les réseaux interpersonnels comme des stratégies d’accès au crédit et à la protection contre le risque, repérer les contraintes, économiques ou non économiques, et les discours qui les élucident, tenter de comprendre comment les échelles de qualité de produits sont articulées au cadre institutionnel de contrôle de qualité des États modernes, en dépit de l’apparente imprécision des mots, cartographier enfin les choix stratégiques et tactiques à travers la confrontation de toutes les sources disponibles, des livres de comptes aux correspondances.

The mobile borders

Bien que leur mort, ainsi que celle des territoires, ait été annoncée au début des années 1990, les frontières constituent toujours une réalité prégnante. Elles sont marquées toutefois par les processus constants de déterritorialisation / reterritorialisation et d’ouverture / fermeture (« debordering / rebordering ») qui les sélectionnent, les re-hiérarchisent mais aussi qui les rendent plus diverses dans leurs formes et leurs matérialisations. Ainsi, l’inscription spatiale de la frontière est de plus en plus difficile à définir, ce qui constituera le cœur du questionnement de notre colloque. Différentes tendances sont en effet à l’œuvre, qui produisent des frontières plus mouvantes, plus ouvertes ou plus floues.

The paths of integration in Rome and the Roman world, from the third century BC to the fifth century AD

La citoyenneté romaine est fondée sur des statuts civiques et politiques juridiquement établis durant les premiers siècles de la République. Elle offre à l’empire romain un modèle civique destiné, en près de quatre siècles (IIe siècle avant notre ère - début du IIIe s. de notre ère), à englober une grande partie des hommes libres vivant en deçà des limites du territoire impérial. Deux étapes significatives d’un tel processus ont notamment été bien étudiées : la guerre des alliés (au début du Ier siècle avant notre ère) en Italie et l’édit de Caracalla de 212 qui octroie à la plus grande partie des hommes libres de l’empire la citoyenneté romaine. Cette thématique, explorée depuis les années 1970 selon plusieurs axes de recherche, juridique, social, politique, culturel et religieux (le contenu de la « romanisation »), mérite d’être explorée de nouveau.

Informal economy, vulnerabilities and employment

The central objective of this conference is to provide a state of the heart of academic research on the substantive performance of informal economic units in the construction of their territory. It means that it intends to (1) highlight the inner socioeconomic logics developed by informal economy units, (2) provide a better understanding of socioeconomic practices to manage risk across the life course and fight vulnerabilities at individual, family and collective levels, (3) analyze the interaction between public policies and informal practices and (4) analyze how securization practices within the informal economy participate to the construction of a given territory (of its markets, of potential social services, social protection mechanisms, and of its public sphere). It will provide a new knowledge of specific mechanisms of coordination, reproduction, surplus allocation and securization which are characterizing individual/family and collective/associative organizations from the informal economy.

Tradition, Statecraft and Reform

Qiu Jun 's Daxue yanyi and its influence in Ming-Qing China

Ce séminaire s’inscrit dans une série sur le thème « Statecraft and the Chinese Origins of Political Economy » initiée par Timothy Brook, dont la première réunion a eu lieu en mai 2010 à Vancouver (Canada). Comme l’an passé, les contributions seront consacrées au contenu et à l’influence du Daxue yanyi bu 大學衍義補 (supplément au sens élargi de la Grande Étude) de Qiu Jun 邱濬 (1420-1495). Ce vaste traité en 160 chapitres passe en revue les fonctions de l’État en s’appuyant sur les classiques, les histoires et les auteurs du passé, et fait des propositions pour le présent. Il passe pour avoir exercé une grande influence sur les théoriciens et les praticiens de l’« administration du monde » (jingshi 經世, statecraft) à la fin de la période impériale, que nous chercherons à évaluer. Chaque session sera consacrée pour partie à la lecture d’extraits du Daxue yanyi bu. Les débats se dérouleront pour l’essentiel en anglais.

Throughout the world, estuaries and lagoons are among the most intensely modified and threatened aquatic ecosystems. Moreover, these systems are vulnerable to the consequences of global change. From a management point of view, there is a tremendous and concrete lack of knowledge regarding the functioning of estuarine ecosystems and the socio-economic relations that bind the various actors to these environments. This ECSA symposium will contribute to provide sound science on past and future estuarine and lagoon ecosystem evolution from ecological, social and political point of view. All example of medium and long terms surveys, describing how the ecosystem and socio-ecosystem is evolving are welcome.

Tourist Spaces

Between Practices and Theories

In our conference we intend to question the modalities according to which tourist spaces are lived, analyzed and interpreted. The interventions not only of anthropologists, semioticians and geographers, but also of other specialists, are particularly welcome to examine different tourist phenomena starting from the perspective of space. The fundamental principle upon which we wish to base our interrogation is founded on a precise anthropological conception of space. Besides being an abstract concept, in our perspective space constitutes an active element of cultural modeling: space is not a neutral container within which human actions are accomplished independently from its cultural shaping, but a real and true meaningful feature contributing to structure human actions and give them sense inside a society. If we follow this hypothesis, the reflection on tourist spaces takes on a particularly decisive role for many disciplines and for the definition of culture(s) in a more and more globalized world.

Images of Animate Movement. Representations of Life

The fascinating paradox that we can see life in abstract images is the starting point of this conference. In a drawing of just a few lines, we can immediately recognize a human figure walking. A moving quadrangle can be seen as a crawling caterpillar. And some well-placed moving points are directly joined together in the form of a dancing couple. Again and again, we are astonished that we can actually see a creature moving in the image – even when the image is of such a reduced and simple nature or when it is not even a temporal moving image. How this impression of animate movement can be explained is what is explored at this conference: how can a simple line or form suddenly transform into something so specifically meaningful? How is this transition – this coming to life – to be described? How can it be constructed in the first place? The conference "Images of Animate Movement. Representations of Life" brings together different domains of knowledge in order to approach the phenomenon of animate movement and its images in its complexity in a new way.

The Jewish tombstones of pre-modern Europe are significant for European history, since individual burial, with individual tombstones, only became widespread among Christians in the modern era. The tombstones of Italy’s Jews are particularly valuable, because, whereas in other lands Jewish tombstones typically record the identity of the deceased and the date of death, in Italy they display creative architectural designs and graphic art, accompanied by rhymed and metered poetry. These artifacts invite integrated study of the society, art, poetry and thought of Italy’s Jews in the early modern era.
