Regimes of Value in Tourism: Concepts, Politics, Practices
The conference aims to explore different concepts of value that emerge in the social field of tourism. At a general level, we can distinguish here between value as conceptualized by different academic disciplines and value as lived, expressed, and embodied by various actors within tourism as practice and social field. Tourism is often considered a profit generating industry where the utility value paid by tourists is larger than the exchange value of products (in classical terms, the cost of production using labor, capital and land). It is an important element of the conference to discuss conceptions of value in tourism that transcend a strictly economic definition. In this sense we are interested, on the one hand, in the differentiated emotional, moral and ethical cultures by means of which tourists experience attractions and assign value. On the other hand, we wish to explore how various local, regional, national, international, and transnational actors and instances capture, conceptualize and assemble economic, political, cultural, spatial value associated with touristic places. -

Self-managed Co-Housing: born out of need or new ways of life?
In the 21st century, self-organized co-housing is re-appearing in many European countries, in new forms and larger numbers. Cohousing, cooperatives de logement, Genossenschaften or Samenhuizen are types of collaborative housing in which residents actively participate in the design and operation of their own neighbourhoods. This "Le Studium® Conference" aims to look at co-housing initiatives in the perspective of sustainable spatial development. Its purpose is both to take stock of ongoing research and practices, as well as to set a research agenda and establish future collaborations. -

Power, Resistances and Tensions. History of Electric Mobilities, 19th-20th Centuries
Call for the third issue of the review Space Populations Societies, 2012

The second International Congress on Ambiances is an international gathering for researchers, artists and players engaged in analyzing the ambiance-related dimensions of the built environment and in the sensory construction of the contemporary world. Many approaches are at work in the field of architectural and urban ambiance, and these multiple contributions nurture its rich diversity. The Congress aims to give voice to this activity, feeding on work exploring new forms of exchange between what is designed and what is experienced, between the measured and the qualified, the projected and the tested, the material and the immaterial. The Congress will be held for four days at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), in Montreal, from 19 to 22 September 2012. It will seek to express advances in learning and new hypotheses proposed by the various disciplines and fields of activity which address the question of ambiances. -

Urban action groups in the 20th century

Climate change, eco-friendly urban planning and control over energy consumption are some of the questions under discussion in countries along the southern Mediterranean coast. In recent years, these issues have been brought to the forefront of debate not only by elected officials and government bodies but also by private actors, civil society (NGOs and associations) and international actors working in the country. -

Taking ownership of the city: “Becoming together” from urban heritage to cultural landscape

Cities and Urban Developments in the Contemporary Arabian Peninsula

Postwar Planning in Transnational Perspective
European Association for Urban History - 2012 Prague
For this Main Session at the EAUH 11th International Conference (Prague, August 29 - September 1, 2012), we invite papers that bring a transnational or comparative methodology to bear on planning postwar cities in Europe and North America. We are interested in how ideas about planning were exchanged across national borders and how planning in turn shaped trans-Atlantic shifts in political ideologies. Paper topics can range from specific urban interventions, such as the provision of housing, to the way cities fit into broader programs of social reform, Keynesianism, or market-oriented competition. We encourage contributions from all disciplines.
