Interdiscplinary perspectives on dance, perfromance and cognition

From silicosis to silica hazards: an experiment in medicine, history and the social sciences
What are the biases inherited from the constitution of medical knowledge? How does returning to the root of “scientific truth” open new avenues to contemporary research? The present colloquium is an unprecedented interdisciplinary experiment whereby medical experts, epidemiologists and historians will question the very foundations of current medical knowledge of silica hazards, in order to discuss the unknown origin of a range of systemic diseases.

4rth International Congress on the Square of Opposition
The Square : a Central Object for Thought
The square of opposition is a very famous theme coming from Aristotelian logic dealing with the notions of opposition, negation, quantification and proposition. It has been continuously studied by people interested in logic, philosophy and Aristotle during two thousand years. Even Frege, one of the main founders of modern mathematical logic, used it. This congress is an interdisciplinary event gathering logicians, philosophers, mathematicians, semioticians, artists, cognitivists, and computer scientists.

Call for papers - Science studies
On the one hand, the concept of identity naturally enters the discussion concerning many types of paradox that are not, primarily, about identity itself. On the other hand, there are a number of paradoxes considered as paradoxes of identity in which identity is apparently the concept generating the paradox (e.g., the ship of Theseus paradox, Chrysippus's paradox, the paradox of change, the paradox of constitution). The goal of the workshop is to discuss philosophical, logical and linguistic aspects of paradoxes in which the notion of identity plays a role. More specifically, we wish to examine whether the so-called paradoxes of identity really are paradoxes of identity in the sense that their paradoxicality is primarily connected to the concept of identity; and we want to investigate the role of concepts of identity in connection with the formulation/solution of other types of paradoxes. -

Spaces, Knots and Bonds: at the crossroads between early modern "magic" and "science"

New Perspectives on Visuality in the History of Science
The workshop will feature four sessions dedicated to some of the most important or well developed areas of visual studies of science: 1 “The making and materiality of visual objects”, includes the materials, techniques, tools and practices involved in the making of visual objects and their conservation; 2 “The circulation of images and of visual cultures” for instance among scientific practitioners, printers, engravers, draughtsmen, and different publics, but also across different publications; 3 “The uses and politics of the image” focuses on the intended functions of images e.g. in science popularization or teaching but also on their less intended uses in other realms and by other publics; and 4 "Images as epistemic objects” asks what roles images and visual objects play in scientific epistemology, e.g. as visual evidence. -

Philosophy of social science. Philosophy of social phenomena
Individual and Collective Rationality
